Knowing When To Stop

After thirteen months of blogging for Where We Relax, I’m sorry to say that this is my last post. However, as regular readers of this blog will know, things have been going topsy-turvy in my life and I need to scale back on my work in order to get balanced again. This was a hard decision to make but in order to get more out of life, you do have to know when to let things go. I’m sure this blog’s administrator, John, has more writers lined up to keep Where We Relax going and help you manage your stress.

There are a lot of urban myths and old wives’ tales about how stress directly affects the body. I’m guilty of thinking that stress will turn my hair white and even writing about it. But stress alone can’t turn your hair white or grey. Stress can aggravate some medical conditions, but it usually is not the main culprit for some maladies that we blame it for. So, if you think your stress will give you an ulcer or cancer or turn your hair white, you can relax.

Book Review: “Deep & Simple” By Bo Lozoff

If someone offers you this book, take it. It originally was distributed free to many prisons, so don’t be offended if someone offers it to you. I found mine in the “free books” bin at the local library. You don’t have to be a prisoner to find freedom in your thoughts with a little help from Deep & Simple: A Spiritual Path for Modern Times. Many of use can feel imprisoned due to debt, bad health or other hard to control circumstances.

The technology exists to get a full body CT (Computed Tomography) scan. You can use this to check for anything abnormal in your innards, such as strange growths or the beginning of tumors. Doctors stress time and time again that they best way to beat an illness like cancer is with early detection. Shouldn’t we have annual CT scans for caner, then?

However, it does cost a couple of thousand dollars. But even if price wasn’t the issue, a full body CT scan might still not be worth the stress it will cause you. This is the conclusion of Dr. Nancy Snyderman in her book Medical Myths That Can Kill You.

All Tribes Are My Tribe

My great-great grandmother on my father’s side was a Native American. Or maybe I’m missing a “great” somewhere. Anyway, I’m part Native American. I remember being thrilled to discover this when I was a little kid. However, no else in my family seemed enthusiastic about it. It just wasn’t talked about. No one even knew the name of the Native American ancestor. I’m still trying to find out what tribe she was from. I’m not having much success.
