I can still remember the frustration I had when I lost control of my blog that was hosted for free at that time with Blogger. I lost access because Google disabled my email account connected to my blog. I couldn’t sleep for a couple of days. I went to forums and asked experienced bloggers and webmasters how I could get out of this situation. Most of them advised me to just get a web hostingbut to be honestI had no idea what a web hosting was and how it could benefit a blogger like me. I almost gave up on getting back access to my own blog!
I researched online to learn about web hosting and based on what I found I decided to host my blog with a commercial web hosting company instead of using free hosting without any protection for one’s site.
Now, how do I know which web hosting company to take?
Choosing a web hosting company is a very important decision to make because if you choose the wrong one, you will end up with problems to transfer to later on.
A very useful source of web hosting information can be found on www. webhostinggeeks. What I like about this website is that they provide real and unbiased customer web hosting reviews of several companies. Furthermore, they have a web hosting blogthat contains lots of valuable information helpful in developing your own sites. For example, if you want to develop an online store your site would need to have SSL certificate, a concept explained in simple terms on their blog. Another thing I found interesting on their blog is how you can detect and prevent fraud on your website.
Anyway in my opinion, you could better get a web hosting for your sites. Better safe than sorry.
Webhostinggeek.com is definitely your first stop before you select a hosting company and build your site.
Once in awhile I would indulge myself and get a mani/pedi. Watching this video reminded me of an almost similar chat between me and the manicurist. Watch it and I assure you- you’ll laugh,
Yep, I am still awake. I was MIA for quite awhile so I am catching up on blogging plus I worked the whole day till now in getting my new blogready.
Pheew!
It was a lot of work because being the adventurous me - I tried a different company for acquiring my domain. I didn’t know my way around in their website but with tons of research (actually after alot of sweating, cursing and almost crying) I finally got it going.
So my dear readers and friends without further ado I present you MommaWannabe. I am still working on some things here and there but please let me know what you think of it.
………..Zzzzzzzzzz! Oh I think I need to go to bed now.
Okay, before you continue reading - better finish your other chores first and then when you are done, get some drinks and maybe some chips or carrots sticks (whatever!) because this is gonna be quite a long post.
The continuation of my vacation story:
After almost a week in Puerto Princesa we went to Narra where our tree farms are located. We went to our usual accommodation - La Vista Resort to drop our luggages and stretch a bit after our two hour journey.
After we have rested we went on to visit our trees at our farms. We are very keen to see how are they all doing. Oh have I mentioned that to you before - we do have tree plantations and we have about 80,000 hardwood trees planted in our tree farms in Palawan as of this year.On the way to our properties- we encountered a bit of a problem. One of our car’s wheel got stuck in the mud ( Oh Oh!) and it was so difficult to get it out. I have no idea how many man they needed to get it out because I already walked towards the farm together with my MIL and other ladies. I guess that is one of the privileges in being a woman - you don’t do the dirty work ;). We arrived before lunch time and I think they finally finish trying to get the car out of the mud at about 3 pm. Poor guys!
Anyway, more about the farm - we have been planting trees for several years now for ourselves and other people who would like to have trees of their own. People can buy trees as gift to their loved ones or even as an investment.
Trees are among the earth’s most useful and beautiful products of nature. Trees are crucial to mankind’s survival. The oxygen we breathe is released by trees and other plants - two mature trees provide enough oxygen for a family of four; trees prevent erosion; trees provide food, shelter, and material for animals and man. As trees grow they help reduce global warming by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and the soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. One acre of trees removes 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Investing in trees helps improve our environment!
Trees planted on farms offer to woodworkers an alternative to material acquired through rainforest clear-cutting, in this way relieving some of the pressure in the remaining world’s rainforests.
Our tree farms benefit the local community by providing much needed employment in the area. We still have land available for tree farming and there are many opportunities in acquiring deforested land in the same area. The more trees we can plant the more families will be employed.
Our long term vision for the future use of the land we own is to convert it into a protected privately owned forest by means of an ecological easement of the land. As a matter of fact we already allocated sub areas within our tree farms to non-commercial plants and trees without intention of harvesting them. The fruit and shelter trees are planted to provide habitat for wildlife, in particular birds.
When we are around our trees and in the farm - we just feel so relaxed and at one with nature. It was great to be there.
The next day we visited a local school we have adopted. Before we went there - we bought new notebooks, pencils, cookies and some fruit juices for the kids.
We were surprised by the welcome we received. As we step out of our car, we were swarmed with happy faces. As you can see, the children take Jules’ right hand and place it on their foreheads - it is a sign or respect. It’s called “pag mamano” - ( kissing an elder person’s hand) mano means hand in spanish. The students and teachers have prepared a program for us to show their appreciation for the things (school items) we have sent them six months ago which I collected from the good people of Freecycle here in Singapore.
The teachers and parent-teacher council gave gratitude speech and the children also prepared dance numbers to entertain us. We were overwhelmed with joy to witness all this. After the program we have distributed the things we have brought for them - they are very happy with the few little things we have brought.
Thanks Mo for letting me use some of your pics!
After the beautiful program we walked around to see their classrooms and then we were treated to a sumptuous meal. It was such a great day. It is great to be able to extend help and see them appreciate little things that we sometimes neglect.
All alone - I feel a bit lonely. All our guests are gone and my husband is also away on a business trip.
What’s the best cure for loneliness?
RETAIL THERAPY!!!
Yep, that’s just what I did today and the best thing is that I bought stuff without really spending money. I used some reward shopping vouchers we get from our bank.
What about you, what do you do when you feel lonely? Do you shop, lock yourself in your room, pig out or do something crazy? Would love to hear from you.
I am just kidding … I meant my dear little brother;) I love this guy and I really missed spending time with him Now is truly a a great chance for us to bond.
He arrived Friday early morning to Singapore. I then showed him Orchard road in the afternoon. I had him try one of Singapore’s signature dish- The Chicken Rice.
I am feeding him well so that he can scrub the floors for me ( and maybe clean the fridge as well) tomorrow. It’s great to have a brother!
Our other guests-my MIL and my stepdaughter will be arriving next week too so I might not be around that often folks. Please bear with me if I couldn’t visit you right away. I will try to do the tags that I got before and post them whenever I get the time.
Entrecard is down, Technorati has a monster and now my sewing machine is not working too. Dang!
What the heck is going on?
I decided to not spend much time on these week because I am trying to finish the dress I am making before my guests arrive… but then the stupid sewing machine stopped working.
Ever had such a day?
Now I guess I’m just gonna have to finish my ironing ( my least favorite thing to do)…hope it does not break too.
This is what you can call the Philippine’s national dish. It so good to eat especially in cold weather. My mom taught me this after I got married.I have been thinking of eating this for a couple of days already…I’ll make it tomorrow. And to those who are having some cravings as well, i thought i’d share you the recipe.

Arrange chicken in a clay pot or Dutch-oven. Pour marinade over chicken, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, until tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
Preheat broiler. Remove chicken from pot, and place on a baking sheet or broiler pan. Place under broiler until browned, 5 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, continue to cook the remaining liquid in the pot until it reaches a creamy consistency. Transfer chicken to a serving platter, and top with reduced sauce. Hmmm cant wait!
