Philippines in the 2008 Beijing Olympics Medal Standing

So far, it’s 0-0-0 for the Philippines. We’ve lost in all the other sports we’ve taken part of, while China and the USA are breezing it through like they own the sporting world. The Taekwondo jins are our last medal hopes. They will fight for gold and glory beginning August 20, 2008, with Tshomlee Go battling it out with Ryan Carnelli of Australia.

Here’s the updated medal standings for the 2008 Beijing Olympics leading nations as of today.

The table updates itself everytime you visit here. As of today, our fiercest rivals in the SEA games are doing well, with Indonesia garnering more medals.

Indonesia 35th place – 1 Gold in Badminton, 1 silver in Badminton, 1 bronze in Badminton and 2 bronzes in Weightlifting

Thailand 38th place – 1 Gold in weightlifting, 1 silver in Taekwondo

Malaysia 60th place – 1 silver in badminton.

What is wrong with Philippine sports? That is not for me to answer. I am sure that our sports officials will have a lot of soul-searching to do when they get home empty-handed.

Update on the Taekwondo jins in the Beijing Olympics : Tshomlee Go lost to Ryan Carneli in a score of 0:1. Only Mary Antoinette Rivero is left on the quest for medal.

My Update On The Cebu SEO Contest

Right now, SEO experts, addicts, enthusiasts, wannabes and pretenders have joined the Cebu SEO Contest organized by Lhurey. There are still15 days to go before the contest is closed on September 2, 2008. Yet it seems like there is a new leader on SERP almost everyday.

I’ve been there once. That must be my lucky day! But right now, I’m on page 2. How to win on the Cebu SEO contest or any other SEO contests for that matter is a puzzle to many, but so easy for some. It is a puzzle for me though. I have not completed reading the SEO e-book in my hard drive and I have skipped some lines while browsing the blog entries of certain SEO experts. So my chances are definitely slimmer, unless luck strikes back on the final day.

Discover Camotes, Cebu

There is a paradise island northeast of Cebu waiting to be discovered and explored. I am sure not all of you had gone there. Even I, who had lived in Cebu most of my life, had only gone there once, two weeks ago. I am referring to Camotes, and the towns of San Francisco, Poro, Tudela and Pilar.

Blogging Meets: Drawing Inspiration from Fellow Bloggers

I haven’t really been to a large blogging meet (blogging EBs). Maybe the largest gathering that I’ve been too was that organized by Rhodz and Weli, way back many months ago. The money making wonders of blogging opened the eyes of the other participants. I’ve been to small meets with Bloggista and Javi. It’s a small world really, since two were boardmates many years (and pounds) ago, and found each other again on that meeting in Makati.

I get to see Cyril almost everyday and we had plenty of discussions regarding our blogging directions. More of the blogs, and less of our cubicle occupation. He recently launched his latest blog: Risk of Business, making full use of his professional knowledge in the world of business and taxation. I, too, am drawn to follow suit.

CEBU SEO CONTEST

For the SEO newbie enthusiasts, joining small contests is a practice ground wherein you hone your skills when you really want to tread the pretty exciting and treacherous world of SEO. Lhurey, a blogger from Cebu, has his Cebu Seo Contest wherein you only need to do the following:

EC Love and Easy Link – Part 2

It’s now time to publish and reward my top droppers. I am not sure if others are doing the same thing that I do: give links and ec credits. But I do hope that plenty will follow suit in the future. It’s a give and take community, and we are not really to make money out of those credits.

As per my instructions last month, I’ll recognize only the top 3. But from among the top 10, I will randomly choose a winner for a week of 125 x 125 ad space. I initially wrote 150 x 150, but since I changed my template, the space is reduced. So here goes my top 3:

Negative SEO and Keyword Bastardization

Have you ever heard any of the two phrases in my above title? The first one is not really something new. It has been around the net for many months now but the phrase just popped into my head yesterday. The latter might just be of my own making. But tell me if there is a better term for it.

Negative SEO

…is simply an SEO technique that pushes a website out of the search engine rankings (or deep into limbo of Google SERP). How could that be? If it is unintentionally done and you are doing it for your site, it could be over-SEO. It happened to many of the over-eager SEO enthusiasts. And Google will penalize you for that. One day you’re on top, the next day you’re nowhere.

My Blog’s New Look

Promdiblogger once commented that my site does not look good in her browser. Though I was aware of it when I accessed my blog in internet cafes, I did not really mind because it looked good in my laptop. I love the color combination of the wezine theme and it really fits my taste. I thought that it was probably perhaps of the outdated browsers, most particularly IE, that made my site look bad. I did not also mind the disarrayed snapshot of my blog at Stumbleupon.

I am not a blog fashionista like my friends Thirdworldgeek and Sasha, who change themes more often. Blog design is very important too. And I’d like to have a site that is presentable and nifty-looking in all browsers.

Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008

How do you consider one as an influential blog? I read Ms. Janette Toral’s attempt to answer this question. I do agree that it is a tough question and I don’t think there is a single description that fits all.

I was already blogging during the first edition but really did not mind the project (and all other happenings around the blogosphere at that time). It was just me, my blog, and the few people in my blogroll.

But I happened to read the results because a few of the winners were in my blogroll. Like the others, I was surprised. Some people were very vocal about their disagreement, and I may have even agreed then with the points they raised. Is it popularity or influence? 2007 is behind us now and everyone has moved on.

June 2008 Nursing Board Exam Topnotchers from Cebu Schools

The June 2008 Philippine Nursing Board Exam Results was already released late last night. 27,765 examinees or 43.07% out of the 65,459 who took the exam last June 1 and 2 passed. The exams were held in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

I first learned of the results last night from examinees who congratulated each other at Velez College, Cebu while accompanying my wife, an alumna of that school, who attended the wake of the school’s longest-serving nursing dean.

More than 100 examinees made it to the top 10. Topnotchers from Cebu schools are as follows:
