Recover your erased files with Recuva free software

Posted on December 26th, 2008 in Computers,Free Stuff,Useful Stuff by Laura

Last week I went to two parties, one of my daughter’s school and the other from daycare that both my kids attend. I used my new Nikon to take pictures and make some movies and I used Picasa to put everything on the computer. After the transference I deleted everything from the camera memory card and well, I was really shocked when I realized that some movies hadn’t been transfered.

On Christmas Eve my husband bought PC Guide magazine (portuguese version) and while I was checking the magazine I realized that it mentioned an easy recover program - Recuva - that was able to recover files from hard disks, digital cameras and MP3. I thought to myself: I’ve got nothing to lose so let’s try it!

I entered directly on the Recuva site, downloaded the free application and installed it.  I inserted the memory card on the Laptop slot and ran the Recuva application.  The first scan came out negative, no files had been found, I was disappointed. Than there was the option of Deep Scan that would take some minutes. Once again I thought: let’s do it!! And I did, after a few minutes of looking at an empty scan some .avi files appeared

and I instantly received my Christmas present: all the movies I had done. I was so thrilled.

I know there are other applications that can do this job but Recuva did it very well. Recuva is signed by Periform, it is very easy to use and fast in the process of locating erased files. You can select from the first menu the type of files you want to recover or you can select to recover every file. You then have the chance to visualize each file that the program detects and decide if that’s the one you want to recover.

Definitely this is an application I’m going to keep on my computer to be used when…I erase something by mistake.

Free Search Engine Optimization - The Best Way To Promote Your Website

Posted on November 30th, 2008 in Blogging,SEO,Useful Stuff by Laura

Free search engine optimization is the process to improve the quality and the volume of traffic on your website. Basically, this process is done with the help of effective and targeted keywords. It is obvious that if a website is presented with higher rankings among the search engines, it will be visible to a larger number people as compared to the lower ranking pages.

Free search engine optimization is a technique of promoting your website, free of cost. The main target here is to make your website appear on the top page of every search engine.

There are several methods to promote your website among search engines. However, it is important for you to do this work carefully otherwise your entire effort would go waste. There is a certain process through which search engines give rankings to websites. These search engines send out spiders that find and scan the whole website including its content. Then, these spiders categorize different websites according to the keywords and gives rankings to each website.

There are quite a few ways that you can follow and make these spiders notice your website and get top rankings in various search engines:

  • The most essential thing that you need to keep in mind while designing your website is the keywords. A keyword is the word that people usually put into the search engines when they need to get any related information. In order to find out some useful keywords, you can do a small experiment. You can search few keywords on any search engines and check which one has the least amount of websites under it. Try to utilize even these smaller keywords as these can also generate quality traffic to your website. This makes keywords the most important part of the free search engine optimization.
  • The next important thing in the free search engine optimization that you need to keep in your mind is the design of your website. Here, you should divide your keyword evenly on the content of your website. The ideal amount is three to seven times for every 100 words you write in your website. This helps your website get higher rankings quickly.
  • Try to put some extra content on your website. Search engines love sites with lot of quality content. This will also improve your website rankings.
  • Other important thing is to get higher rankings by advertising the page link of your website. You need to register the link of your website in to the link directories of various search engines. But this is a very time consuming process. So, in order to complete this process quickly, you can take help of the automate software. This software will automatically put your website on search engines through coding and special spider attracting tactics.

Now, what are you waiting for? Just follow these free search engine optimization tips and make your website a top ranker on the search engines.

Eco Friendly Printers

Posted on November 10th, 2008 in Computers,Gadgets by Laura

Eco Friendly Printers By Ryan Perry

Companies are trying to reduce the amount of printing to a minimum. This is not primarily because of environmental concerns but because of economics. Printing a color page, or even using a color copier, is expensive. What is often overlooked is the impact printers have on the environment.

The cost issue is being addressed by companies like Xerox who have programs wherein they supply printers free of cost and charge only a minimal amount per color page printed. This charge is as low a $0.08 per page, which makes printing under this program the cheapest option available. With the costs reduced offices can now print as much as operational efficiencies require. But these increased print volumes do not have a negative environmental impact if the printers are using Solid Ink Technology.

A conventional laser printer uses toner or ink to print on a page. A color laser printer is actually four printers in one. To produce color images the printer needs to be able to combine Black, Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. This means four separate toner cartridges. And once the cartridge is empty it is junk. The cartridges are not biodegradable so they become pure waste.

Solid ink technology uses a wax based stick of solid ink instead of a toner in a cartridge. The wax melts and is used for printing. Once the ink stick is used up, there is no case or container to dispose of - another stick just has to be inserted in the printer. So no solid waste is produced. Solid ink printers do not produce ozone to pollute the air, like Phaser printers do.

Don’t think that because solid ink technology printers are environmentally friendly, they are less efficient than other printers. A printer like the like the Phaser 8560 can churn out 30 pages per minute of top quality color pages. In fact, Xerox says the solid ink produces more brilliant colors than toner based printers.

Solid ink printers are not just environmentally better, they are more economical to use than other printers, especially if a free printer program is opted for and are heavy use multifunction devices.

Author, Ryan Perry, has been in the printer/copier market for 12+ years as a reseller for a number of manufactures including HP, Samsung and Xerox. Today Ryan owns and operates Go2printgreen.com, educating businesses on the environmental advantages of solid ink technology.

Blogging for Cash - AdSense Placement

Posted on November 8th, 2008 in Blogging,Blogs RSS and Podcasting by Laura

Blogging for Cash - AdSense Placement
By Jason DeVelvis

If you are interested in Blogging for cash – Adsense placement is very important. You need to quickly learn where to place the ad units to ensure that you get the maximum number of clicks that you can possibly get with the traffic that you have. In terms of earning money with AdSense, Blogging for Cash – AdSense Placement is vital!

There are many techniques that have been tested by top marketers, website owners, and bloggers since blogs and AdSense have come into existence. What they have found is that what works for one site or blog does not necessarily work for another site or blog – but certain principles, if followed, can significantly increase the number of clicks you will receive. This ultimately determines how much money you make with Google AdSense.

First, let’s dispel any myths about the placement of AdSense ad units. There is no one particular place that works better than all other places on all webpages for ad units. Some people will tell you to use Skyscrapers on the right hand side of the page. Others will tell you to use Skyscrapers on the left hand side. Still others will tell you to use the rectangular boxes at the top of the page. This is what works for THEIR sites, but it will not necessarily work for yours.

Where your ads are placed is largely determined by what your visitors are doing, and where their attention is focused on each of your pages. If your visitor’s attention will be focused on the right hand side of the page, then by all means use the skyscrapers on the right hand side of the pages. But if their attention is focused on the content of your blog posts, you might do better by copying and pasting the AdSense code into the middle of each post you make.

Look at your blog from a visitor’s point of view. Where is their attention? Have a friend or family member look at the page as well. Ask them what they see first. Ask them what part of the page – without any AdSense ads on it – they were most interested in. Find out what drew their attention and why.

In most cases, you do not want to get in your visitors way. However, if you are hoping to earn AdSense revenue, you need to get directly in their path in order to get your ads noticed – and clicked on. This is why so many people opt to put their AdSense code directly in their entries. When it comes to blogs that is usually where a visitors attention is focused – on the entries. Try putting the AdSense code directly in the middle of each post, using one of the rectangular boxes. Just make sure that you tell your visitors that the post is continued below.

Be careful. You must follow Google’s terms of service for placement of AdSense ad code. If you break the rules, Google can ban you. It is important to know that Google only allows you to have two ad units per page. If you will be using your AdSense code within the text of each post, make sure that your blog does not display more than the Google AdSense ad placement limits - if you break their rules, they’ll ban you! Otherwise, have fun blogging and making money!

What Is Spyware? Is it dangerous?

Posted on October 23rd, 2008 in Computers,Software by Laura

If you’ve recently purchased a computer, the store where you bought it for sure as available anti-virus and spam removal options for you to buy. There is also software on the internet that can be safely downloaded onto your computer. But what is spyware and why do you you need it? Here are some benefits to having this system on your computer as well as how you can keep it updated.

Spyware is placed on a computer to monitor the activity of that computer. The activity report is transmitted through the internet conection and allows you to verify if other people is or have been trying to download certain documents or programs from your computer. It also detects whether or not your computer has a virus.

If you are trying to enter a site that may cause problems on your computer or a website that the spyware does not recognize, then you will be asked if you are sure that you want to enter the site, and you will also receive a notification of the risk of entering. If you are searching for a certain site or subject on the internet, then this will also be monitored by spyware. Many company offices have this system installed on their computers that are used only for professional use, so that online games, non-work related photos and inappropriate websites can not be viewed at work.

The company that has issued the software for the computer will get the results of the information the spyware has tracked. Then, the information may be sold to other companies for marketing purposes. For instance, if you are a golf fan, and are visiting a lot of golf-related websites often, then the spyware on your computer will send this information to your computer’s manufacturer and you may start to receive pop-up adds promoting golf goods stores that you can order from online.

In order to eliminate this, you may have to get a pop-up blocker installed on your computer, so that you won’t have to deal with pop-up ads anymore and to protect your privacy while you’re on the computer. The programs for anti-virus installation can be found at a number of electronic stores in your area, so check out places like Radio Shack, Circuit City, and Best Buy to find programs that will help you to protect your computer.

If you are not sure about computer terms or you need to gather more information about spyware before buying any more computers, then you should visit sites like www.spyware.info or www.microsoft.com and get updated information on how to keep companies and individuals away from viewing your private information you have stored on your computer.

Mail Server Software: An Easy Way To Send And Receive Email

Posted on October 20th, 2008 in Computers by Laura

These days, an email address is pretty much one of the basic necessities of life. We use email every day to communicate with others that are far away or even next door or and I’m not exaggerating, in the next room. An email address is the address (place) where our online mail is delivered each minute and how we stay connected to the rest of the world.

All cell phones now include email programs, Microsoft email is probably one of the easiest stand alone email software clients there is and it is remarkably easy to use as long as you access to an exchange email server.

Online email clients such as Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail do not require much information in order to set them up and get them ready to send and receive emails. The mail server software system is called Outlook and Outlook Express, and they do require you to enter a little more information, but it is not that difficult to create if you know what each of the terms mean and can keep track of the information.

When you set up to send emails and receive emails, you need to know two crucial information: you need to know your Pop3 mail server both outgoing and incoming. This is the path that your email program uses to download and send emails to the server. In some cases, such as with a local internet provider, you may need to know your ISP mail server if you are using their email service. They should provide this information to you when you sign up and some of them even do all the work for you through an executable little program.

When you first open up Outlook, it will direct you through the process of setting up your email. There will be a place to put your name and contact information. Next a box will pop up that requires the Pop3 mail server information. You should have been provided this information by your administrator if you are using something other than one of Microsoft’s email programs, such as Hotmail or own email server.

Once you have the correct information, all you have to do to enjoy Microsoft email is to fill in the text boxes with the correct information. If you still cannot send or receive emails after you have entered the information, then you may want to check that you do not have the information on the text boxe (reversed). Just one little mistake can mean the difference between having email and writing stuff by snail mail.

Free Photo Software: Get it online for Free

Posted on October 18th, 2008 in Computers,Free Stuff,Software, photography art by Laura

The amateur photographer is in the majority of all camera owners out there. While the pros have elaborate, expensive equipment and all the latest gadgetry, that’s not the case with you and me. When we pack up our digital camera to take on an outing, or just take a few shots of the kid’s birthday party or our backyard BBQ gathering, we’re just looking to capture some memories, not win a photo contest.

However, many people don’t know about the absolutely amazing enhancements which can be made to your digital pictures, with photo software. There are tons of fabulous photo editors out there, so how do you know which package to choose, that will meet your needs? You may not want to shell out a couple of hundred bucks – or more – when you have no idea what to do with it, or if the whole package might be way out of your skill set.

Well, here’s some great news! Before you go out and spend your hard-earned cash on photo software that may or may not suit your needs, try some of the many excellent Free Photo Software downloads. So how do you find these gems? Easy. Just Google ‘photo software free download’ and wade through some of the thousands of sites at your disposal.

You’ll first want to get a basic photo editor, also known as an image editor. This is your basic workhorse, which allows you to manipulate your images in dozens of ways. Most include an array of special effects, such as altering colors, contrast, or sharpening or softening the image. Rotating, resizing and introducing layers and transparencies are other common features.

While you’re looking, keep in mind what features will be truly useful to you. For example, if your thing is landscape photos, you may want to look for a photo software package that provides lighting effects. With this feature, you can make a sunset a little more luminous, or even change the color entirely.

Be aware that many of these downloads are only available in the .exe format, so when the download dialog box comes up on your screen, be sure to click the ‘save to disk’ option and save the download in a directory of your choice.

Fool around with a few of these editors to find out what photo software technology has to offer. Once you see what you can do with a photo editor, you’ll want to look into photo software utilities to perform specialized tasks, such as merging photos, instant color matching or creating digital sketches from your kid’s photos!

You’ll be surprised to see how intuitive photo software is to use. There’s no big learning curve. You’ll be up and running in no time. Once you’re familiar with this type of software, you’ll know what you need from photo software and the money you spend will not be wasted. Your pics will be like the pros! Article marketing is one of the best ways to generate targeted traffic for your website and improve your search engine rankings. In this article we are going to discuss how you can use article marketing to generate traffic for your website.

If you’re not interested in article marketing, but would like another internet marketing related article, I highly recommend this article on Social Networking.

What is Article Marketing?

Perhaps you have come across article directories such as Ezinearticles.com or Goarticles.com in your browsing on the internet. These article directories are full of articles written by different website owners and at the end of each article you will see an author bio box which tells you who the author is as well as having a link to their website. This is known as article marketing, it uses articles distributed through article directories in order to generate traffic for the person’s website and that traffic could also be sent to your website if you start using article marketing.

Article Marketing and Keyword Optimization

In order to get the most out of your article marketing it is best to use keyword optimization in your articles. This means that you choose good keywords that have a high search volume but relatively low competition. You can use keyword research tools such as Wordtracker, Overture and Google’s Keyword tool to get this information. In order to find out how many competing pages there are simply type the keyword phrase into the search box and see how many pages the search engine lists. Once you have chosen these keywords include them throughout your article, in your article title and preferably in bold somewhere near the top of the article – this will improve your article’s ranking on the search engines.

Article Marketing and Search Engine Optimization

Article Marketing can improve your search engine optimization in a number of ways. The first is that by optimizing your article for keywords you are optimizing it for the search engines and so the link to your website will be near the top of the search engines by accessing your article first and then from there people can visit your website. Article marketing is also useful for creating links to your website by other websites printing your articles on their websites. The search engines consider links a vital factor in determining the importance and rank of your website and so by distributing your articles you are further able to improve your search engine rankings.

Most people who find information on the internet will use the search engines to do so and by improving your search engine rankings you are a lot more likely to generate traffic for your website.

Generate Traffic through Other Webmasters

Apart from generating traffic through improved search engine optimization caused by article marketing, you may also generate traffic by other webmasters placing your articles with your resource box on their website. This means that when they do their marketing and drive visitors to their website that those visitors will see your link and so they will generate traffic for your website as well.

Using Automatic or Manual Submission to Generate Traffic with Article Marketing

Do you use automatic submission services for your articles or do you manually submit articles for article marketing? There are pros and cons to both methods of submission and you will need to decide for yourself whether you want to use automatic submission, manual submission or both to generate traffic with article marketing. Automatic submission is a lot faster and you will get your articles to a lot more directories then you would be doing it manually but your articles will not be as targeted and will probably not rank as highly on the search engines. Manual submission is a lot slower and you will probably only be able to focus on a few directories but you will be able to target your articles better and get better search engine rankings for your articles.

The Best Article Directories to Generate Traffic to Your Website

Whether you are manually submitting articles or whether you are using automatic submission there are a number of article directories which you should manually submit your articles to for best results and to generate traffic to your website. The first of these article directories is Ezinearticles.com. Ezinearticles.com is ranked very highly on Google and by placing an article on their directory it is a lot easier to get good search engine results. Another one of these article directories is Goarticles.com which also has a fairly high ranking.

In conclusion, article marketing is an excellent way to generate traffic for your website as you not only benefit from improved search engine rankings but also from visitors drawn to other webmasters websites and through that to your website. In order to create good articles for article marketing you should focus on keyword optimization and enjoyable content that people want to read. You may submit these articles manually or automatically but it is best to include a manual submission to Ezinearticles.com and Goarticles.com in your submission program.

A “get Productive” Guide For New Ipod Owners

Posted on October 16th, 2008 in Gadgets,Technology and Gadgets by Laura

So you have got an iPod as a Christmas or birthday present. It looks good and holds true with its claim of a thousand songs in your pocket, huh? But do you know that iPod could do much more for you aside from entertaining you? To all new iPod owners, here is a guide on how to be productive with your iPod.

New iPod owners could find a sleek, sexy personal data assistant with their iPod. Read on below to learn how to sync contacts and calendars from your iPod to your computer, or use it to transfer soft files, of any format, to your computer, and read sticky notes.

* Add VIPs

All the stored information in your computer about the important people in your life that you know such as phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, company name, birthdays, and other personal information, you can transfer it your new iPod.

If you’re a Mac user, it is quite easy to sync your Address Book with your new iPod. If you’re a Windows user, you can use Outlook Express or Microsoft outlook to sync your contact details in your new iPod.

* Sync Schedule

Scheduled for a meeting with the top bosses tomorrow? Or have a date with the lady of your dreams on Saturday? You can sync your alarms and schedules from Mac’s iCal with your new iPod. For Microsoft Windows users, your new iPod can work with Microsoft Outlook to sync schedules.

* Take and Read Sticky Notes

You do not need those yellow sticky notes to write anything that pops up in your head (since they always get lost, anyway) like, what are your deadlines for the day and the coming week, your grocery lists, driving directions, etc. You can take all your sticky notes inside your new iPod and carry it with you all the time.

Your new iPod can hold a total of 4096 characters or (4kb in total) for each note. So, keep in mind to keep your notes briefly so won’t run out of character lines if you sync it with your new iPod.

How can you sync sticky notes from your computer to your new iPod?

Here’s how.

1. Open your notepad or any word-processing application that can save the file into .txt. Type a new note to create your grocery lists or those bulleted to-do’s that you have been laying aside for a few weeks already. Or if you want to keep an important email message or want to put in your new iPod lyrics of the songs from your new iPod’s playlist, just copy the text and then paste it in a notepad.

2. Save document in .txt file.

3. Connect your new iPod to your Mac or Microsoft Windows computer.

4. Since you’re a new iPod user, you might have not set your iPod for disk use. But if you are a techie new iPod user and already did this, skip this step.

To new iPod users who have not set their new iPod, or iPod Nano, for disk use, enable this feature by doing these:

1. Open your iTunes program from your computer and then open iTunes preferences. Mac users should click ‘Preferences’ from the iTunes menu, while Microsoft Windows users should choose the ‘Edit’ menu first before clicking ‘Preferences’).
2. Find the iPod tab, click it, and then a new pane will open. Click in the iPod pane the Music tab.
3. A Select the “Enable disk use” checkbox, then click OK.

5. Open your iPod volume that appears on your desktop (Mac) or in My Computer (Windows) to display three folders: Calendars, Contacts, and Notes.

6. Drag your text file to the Notes folder on your iPod to add it.

* Use the iPod as File Carrier

If you haven’t already figured it out by now, you can use any iPod model as an external hard drive, allowing you to copy files onto it and shuttle items from one computer to another. This comes in handy if you need to work on projects at the office or school and at home, or you want to transfer your digital music collection from your old computer to a new one. Here’s how to enable this feature.

Show me how:

1. Connect your iPod to your computer.
2. Open iTunes (if it isn’t open already), then open iTunes preferences (Mac users, choose Preferences from the iTunes menu; Windows users, on the Edit menu, click Preferences).
3. Click the iPod tab, then click the Music tab in the iPod pane.
4. Select the “Enable disk use” checkbox, then click OK.

Your iPod should now appear as a mounted volume on your desktop (Mac) or in My Computer (Windows). To copy files for transport, simply drag any file onto the iPod volume icon, or double-click the volume, create a new folder (or folders), and copy items to it.
