Police Mistakes are No Laughing Matter

The mugshots that used to be featured on this site were pretty funny and that's why I posted them. The alleged perpetrators all seemed to be in a good mood despite being arrested and I didn't think they'd mind all that much if they were given some additional exposure. I never anticipated that the site would be picked up by Digg and make the most popular listing for a day, resulting in many, many thousands of hits. Upon reflection, I've decided to take the site down because even though it was a fun diversion to guess someone's alleged crime, the odds of an innocent person being wrongfully charged were far too great. I read many comments suggesting that I faked the whole site and the photos were merely friends I had lined up. Not so. All were real mugshots and considered public records. Initially I used that as my basis for publishing them here, but as I thought about it I realized I was on the wrong side of the Internet privacy battle and therefore I needed to remove the posts. If you are reading this post and have at some point published one or more of the photos that were shown here, please do me a favor and remove it from your site. Thanks, and my apologies to anyone who was offended by this site.
