10 Ways To Be A $uper cheap A$$ in a Recession.
- Use less toilet paper. That shit is expensive (excuse the pun) Is your ass really that big?
- Shower faster. Make it like a game and see how fast you can do it.
- Make soup. It is the cheapest food you can make. All those poor farmers can’t be wrong. Add lots of cheap salt too.
- Complain about your food. If your food taste like crap at a restaurant, start speaking up more and bitching. Discounts and free stuff will be in your future dine out.
- Inflate your car tires. This one is the easiest way to save gas but most people are too lazy to check them.
- Don’t store shit in your car. Check your trunk, have hockey gear, tools and crap. That extra weight cost you gas money.
- Drive slower. Ease up on the gas and float around the city. You’ll burn less gas and be less stressed.
- Stop watching Movies for one year. This one will hurt, but if you can give up the theatre and DVD rentals for a while, they eventually end up on TV. Just ask your parents.
- Steal someone else’s wi-fi. Why pay for it, when your neighbours already are?
- Drink Domestic water. In a restaurant when they try to up-sell you and ask, “would you like sparkling or bottled water?” just say, “I’ll have your domestic please…”

5 Ways for Twitter to Generate Revenue $$$
1) Sell multi-level premium memberships. One thing about top twitter users, they all have a ‘look at me’ personality. Sell tiered premium levels of service and users will upgrade and pay money. It would also be an easy way to limit the number of tweets per day based on account level. Free memberships get 20 per day.
Silver Twitter: Private accounts + 50 messages a day limit
Gold Twitter: No sponsor messages+ 100 messages a day limit
Platinum Twitter: Customized re-skin + 200 messages
2) Buy Twitter image, and sell them yourself as a upgrade feature http://twitterimage.com/ to your user base.
3) Sell sponsored twitter posts, but keep it super limited. One sponsor per day and send a message out to the entire twitter verse. A company would easily pay $5,000 or even $10,000 for the opportunity for their message to go to millions in one day. And users really won’t mind ONE message a day hitting their account? You could probably go up to 1 per hour without anyone really getting pissed off. And for the premium accounts, No messages.
4) Well I might as well include the catch all and the way all online companies throw out there as there ‘cool monitizing strategy’, “let’s put up some banners”. Yes twitter could do a full make over of their site and all users sites and integrate some ads. Hey even AdSense will make them a few hundred K.
5) Sell twitter credits. Allow users to buy credits and spend them on silly little things. It worked for facebook and they used to make millions off those crappy ‘gifts’. Some example:
1 credit = 1 extra character of text.
2 credits = real smiley embedded into the tweet.
So what are some your ideas on how twitter can eventually make some dough?

New less annoying Inline text ads - InLinks.com
The guys who brought you Text Link Ads have come up with another product to monetize your blogs, this time in the inline text category. The differentiator with their product is, unlike Vibrant and Kontera, Inlinks does not have a pop-up component. And that is the one main annoyance with most users of inline text ads, especially when they don’t mean to hover over the word or do so unintentionally. (Since it is not a pop-up the magnifier image is a poor choice of examples to use on their web site…)
Anyway, I’ve submitted this site for approval and then will test it our here to see what it looks like.
Without the popup element I’m not sure they will perform as well for $$ as their competitors, but I like the idea of buying keywords right in the page. Full editorial control is also a first in this space that I’m aware of, and the concept of flat monthly fee is a great idea.
Another feature that is a first is the ability to buy ‘futures’. Basically you prepay for a keyword that is not yet in a post and when someone uses that keyword in their blog it automatically goes live. Very cool concept.
You can sign up here and get $100 worth of links for only $1: InLinks.com

7 Guaranteed Ways to Increase you AdSense Revenue
#7 Use Bigger sizes. Bigger ads = Bigger dollars. Who cares if they completely take over your site. (OK maybe your readers do.)
#6 Ad MORE units. This one is a no brainier, but the more ads you have on a page, the more ad revenue you will make. Sure, there is a law of diminishing returns, but that will only affect each ad unit, not the overall revenue.
#5 Click on your own ads. Yes, this one is against the TOS and will get you banned from AdSense, but in the short term you will generate $$$. Google publicly frowns on this of course, just like affiliate companies frown on cookie stuffing but really they are laughing all the way to the bank. ***NOT RECOMMENDED, JUST A JOKE RELAX! So the real #5 is Change your Colors. This one is easy to do and will help your $, but most people are just too lazy and use the default colors. (me too:)
#4 Jam the Ads in key spots. Sure you should have content at the top of the post, but the bloggers who jam AdSense units right at the top of the post make more money than you do…
#3 Stuff keywords everywhere. It is the spam blogs that generate the bulk of Google’s long tail revenue, you know the sites, they contain virtually no real information, just a bunch of nonsensical keywords related to what you are really looking for. Do a search on Google for ‘make money online’ and take a look at some of those results. Have a look at this site in the top 10… Make Money Online Everything above the fold is an advertising link in some way, and has the words ‘make money’ in almost every sentence on the page. Also try the ‘Make money at home’ and click on the 2nd result… MMAH. Can you stuff anymore keywords on that page!!
#2 Be nice to Google. Bitch slapping them like I do, does NOT help your revenue in any way, trust me…
#1 Write crappier content. There is a direct inverse relationship to your effective CPM on AdSense and how good your content is. If users really love what you write, they tend not to click away to something else. If you write really low quality stuff, the readers who are looking for something useful will click on your AdSense away to something that they were actually looking for…

Twitter Advertising? Twittad is not the answer…
So there have been a few stabs at trying to figure out how to get advertising rolling in and around twitter.
One company twittad allows users to sell re-skins on their home page twitter account. The obvious flaw with that model is, who really reads twitter through individual pages? I don’t really know the percentage, but basic logic will tell you that number is pretty low. One of the basis of twitters’ success is the ability to read updates from pretty much any mobile device and tonnes of 3rd party apps. If you take a look at the few purchases on twittad they are mainly the company themselves, and at around 10 bucks with 1000 followers, why bother?
So what is the answer to the microblogging advertising problem? A ’sponsored by’ line at the end of updates? Or even a micro dot that is not readable, but clickable. Just a tiny pixel that can be sponsored and clicked on. If readers know it is there, they may come to look forward to something new to click on each day.
Your thoughts?

Blog Advertising Experiment - Part I
OK, since I preach about the benefits of online advertising all day, moreover, blog advertising, I figured I should ‘drink the kool-aid’ so to speak.
Anyway, the first part of my online advertising experiment will be to by a few ads on various blogs. A lot of people complain that they don’t have enough money or any budget to spend money on advertising, so I’m going to do this on a super shoestring and see what kind of bang I can get for just a few bucks, and prove my argument, that anyone can afford advertising.
First step I’ll need a banner.
- I’m going to head over to 20 dollar banners and get a 125×125 done up for my blog. http://www.20dollarbanners.com This is a great site I’ve used over the years to get cheap quick banners made up. You get several revisions as well and it’s hard to beat that price.
- Next, I’ll head to a few of the blogs I read and see what they charge as well as some high traffic ones with good prices.
Stay tuned to see which sites I buy ads on and the results.
edit:
Banner is designed and I have found a few cool places to advertise. Here is the banner.
