In the last few years, we’ve seen the following game shows return - Bullseye, Family Fortunes, Going for Gold & GladiatorsĀ  being four of them, but they’re often always quite naff, and a departure from the original (for example, Going for Gold now doesn’t feature people from througout Europe). Furthermore, they are rather dumbed down as well.

So it was with great trepidation and worry that I heard Krypton Factor was coming back.

Krypton Factor was shown in the late 1980’s and was TV’s toughest quiz. That wasn’t just a nickname, it was rock! Some impossible mental agility puzzles that even my IQ of 139 couldn’t even fathom, some odd puzzles, landing a plane (which became a real plane in the final) and a incredible gruelling obsticle course just outside Bury meant it was tough.

They announced that the original presenter - The Burns - wasn’t going to be back, and replaced with some guy called Ben Shephard, one of those guys on TV that you’re not quite sure if they came from reality TV or not. I wasn’t filled with much hope.

My, how wrong I was.

The first episode was last week, which I missed, and it was brilliant! The first round (was mental agility) involved a series of flipping cubes with numbers & letters that can only be described as impossible (people scored 1), a very clever jigsaw puzzle and an Observation round followed, and there was a new obsticle course (which isn’t quite as good as the original). All look really tough, which is surprising for ITV, in fact the only part of dumbing down I can see was in the last round whereby wrong answers lost you one point, rather than two.

All in all, it is probably the best “Revival” gameshow out there. And it’s on Tuesday nights at 10:15, in the UK. Watch it!

Finally, with the return of Krypton Factor, only 3 of my favourite game shows are left to come back - Knightmare, Gamesmaster & The Crystal Maze. What do you want to see return?

Happy new year everybody! Hope you had a good one. And so, it’s 2009. Like every year, I’m making a resolution to hopefully stick to. I’m usually generally quite good at sticking to resolutions. Usually because they are simple and ambiguous (travel for a bit, learn to drive etc.), but secondly I don’t tell anybody them.

Not this year.

I believe if I’m to succeed in my goal for 2009, I need to share it with soembody. And as such, my goal for 2009 is simple.

I’m going to lose some weight.

I weighed myself this morning, and I didn’t like what was staring back in my face. I’m 17 stone 6 lbs (244 lbs/ 111 kg). In short, a fat bastard. I’ve been noticing it more and more. My legs hurt after I play football, I get tired pretty quickly when exercising, and I’ve noticed that I’ve been feeling a lot more run down than usual.

Secondly, my confidence - particularly surrounding the fairer sex - is shot. I’m just embarassed by the way I look. My dates (yes, I have actually been on a few since I split up with Han) have dried up within the last few months.

So yes, not exactly the happy go lucky post you want for the beginning of 2009. But no, I usually do plan goals & deadlines for things, so that I can do my best to achieve them. This is what I’ve done so far.

  • Ordered my mum to give me less food - this is a big one, as I usually have massive suppers.
  • Do More Exercise - This is key, as within the last month and a half I’ve probably put on the most of my weight, and the amount of exercise I do has dropped. I suspect it is because I make excuses easily (Call of Duty 4 being the big one), but now I have two excuses to exercise.

The first is I’ve joined a gym for the whole year. I figure that because I’ve paid a stupid amount of money, I really should get my arse down there and do something.

The second is a weekend in may (not sure) I’m one member of a team to run the Edinburgh marathon (so I’m doing a 6 mile run). I plan on doing it for some charity as well, but more on that nearer the time!

So even though i’ve just read that resolutions are bad for you, I’m going to try to stick to mine. What’s your resolutions?

So, how was Christmas 2008 for you?

Myself, I received a few gifts, two of which I will look at in this entry. I got clothes, James Bond on DVD, socks, sweets & a few books (the best being “The Onion Atlas”, which is such a funny look on the world). But I also got a couple of Xbox games.

The first being Civilization: Revolution, a rather cut down version of Civilization 4. And cut down it is, you can pretty much complete a game within about 2 hours, and never return to again. It’s all right, and a good introduction to the game for those who have yet to play it. However, for the rest of us who have played it before, it’s a little short. I don’t blame anybody for getting me this, as I did ask for it, but it’s short and doesn’t keep my attention.

One game that does keep my attention was Mass Effect. If you had been following my Plurk or Twitter account you’ll know how much I love this game. It’s so deep. I’ve finished the main story, but not done half the missions in the game. One mission I have done is the “Romance” mission, one which I’ve made such a big deal on.

You see, half way through the game, you have to choose between two love interests - a human, or an alien. It’s not particularly difficult to mess up this - after all, if I can do it, then you can. You then at the end get a cut scene of you doing it (which everybody goes crazy about - it got banned in Singapore and Germany), but apart from 3 second of arse, it’s nothing. In fact, it’s quite disturbing.

When it’s over, your love interest turns to you, says that you were incredible, and this flashes up.

Okay, maybe not those exact words, but something similar. And your gamerscore goes up by 10.

Nevertheless, it is still an engrossing storyline about saving the galaxy, and considering I wasn’t expecting it, it is a nice surprise.

Now I need to wait for Mass Effect 2!

So this is my last post for 2008, and I think I should do some reflection. My life has got better than beginning 2007, and I’ve really begun finding myself, not really focusing on much except what I want to do. This has meant a lot of travelling, which is very awesome.

And so to 2009, and I’veĀ  a couple of resolutions I’m making. That will wait for the next post. Happy new year guys!

Based on a true story:-

Twas the night before Christmas
And everybody sing
As we were all pissed
In the Pen Y Bryn

After last orders was rang
And it was time to go
We left our friends
Saying Merry Crimbo

It was getting late
It was after 1am
So I left with two of my friends
And walked home with them

And then, outside my house
I could hear screams
And fists were flying
Awaking residents from their dreams

Two people having a scrap
Was a big one too
As sirens soon started flying
It was the boys in blue

Emerging from the rumpus
Was my brother Aled
He wasn’t involved, he just jumped in
To stop one of the combattants from being dead*

Either way, the cops were here
To sort the mess out
They checked over the guy getting beaten up
The apprehended the lout

And Aled? Well, he had to wait
And give a statement to the police
The statement meant a guy had to wait up in the house
That guy - his name was Rhys

I fell asleep on the sofa
Exchausted from the booze
And was woken up by my brother knocking
It was twenty past two

So that was the story of my Christmas Morning
Santa didn’t see my plight
So I said good bye to Aled
And to him a bloody good night

What happened, in non poetry form - Basically, on Christmas Eve, as I left the pub at 1am, there was a domestic outside our house. My brother (Aled) got involved and split them up. One spent the night in the drunk tank, and I had to wait up and let Al in, which was an hour after the incident. Either way, Christmas morning I was exhausted, still had a great Christmas. More on that later though!

How was your Christmas Eve?

Merry Christmas everybody! I haven’t been around too much lately, as too many things are going on in my life. Most of it good (why is it you can manage six years in a dull life, then the second you have interesting existance you stop, I don’t know.), some of it average. But I’m enjoying my time on Retro Garden (check out my Xmas Themed Post!) as well as being merry :).

There is some exciting news for me next year, but that’ll wait until then. In the meantime, keep an eye on my Christmas, and I’ll see you soon.

Merry Christmas to you all.

And to all, an arsing good night.
