In my usual search around YouTube I came across a song and a band from my past, one that I use to love when I was at school and much to my parents annoyance I would play loudly. So I decided that I would do one of the blogging sins and create a list of 10 songs that influenced me when I was a child/teenager (It seems a long time ago now).
Adam & The Ants - Probably one of the first bands and songs that I really liked as a child was Stand and deliver by Adam & the Ants. Im not quite sure what it was about it, perhaps the White tape across his nose or when he smashed through the window, who knows. I still on occassion listen to some of there music.
Taken from the Telegraph.co.uk, “A seven-year-old boy was kept chained in a closet as relatives hacked off pieces of his flesh to eat, a court has heard.”
We hear pretty nasty things happening all the time, but my daughter came across the above story while browsing the Internet for the usual random thing.
Its an extremely disturbing article about a mother would chained up her two sons and allowed some horrendous abuse in the name of a religious cult. below are some excerpts from the article itself.
The abuse – involving members of a religious cult – was uncovered by chance last May when a neighbour’s television baby monitor picked up graphic pictures of what was happening next door.
Ondrej and his nine-year-old brother Jakub were locked and chained in the cellar for months by their mother Klara, 31 – a member of a group called the Grail Movement.
He was caged, beaten and gagged to stop him screaming, according to reports.
Mauerova had the monitor installed so that she could watch the abuse from her kitchen but the images were picked up by a neighbour who used an identical system to monitor a newborn baby, the regional court in Brno has heard.
Police were called and the two boys as well as what appeared to be a 13-year-old girl were freed.
But the girl later turned out to have been one of the alleged abusers, 34-year-old Barbora Skrlova.
We all need sleep but many of us internet addicts fuel our night times with Caffeine just to allow us to cope for that few extra hours online while we update our blogs, kill a few more enemies or just to chat with friends we have never actually met. What if there was a way to stay awake longer without feeling tired??. The military is always developing ways to make soldiers stay awake for days at a time without the need for sleep, but at what cost?
There have been many attempts to surpress the need for sleep. 70 years ago a chemical called dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) was introduced by the pharmaceutical company Smith, Kline, and French. It was used in the the 2nd World War and appeared to have few side effects. But by the 60’s it was discovered that higher and higher doses were needed and giving up the drug was another problem causing disturbed sleep to violent outbursts. Not to be detered by this, the latest solution is Modafinil, researchers found that troops could perform effectively 40 hours at a time and then get a normal nights sleep without needed sleeping pills. The US Airforce has approved its use and the French Foreign Legion gave it to soldiers in the first Gulf war. So is this the solution, developed further could we live in a sleep free society? being able to operate productively days at a time without getting fatigued or imparing our judgement?
Looking further into this shows more worrying facts. Firstly no one really knows the true purpose of sleep. Is it true we sleep to stop feeling tired? is it also true that we eat to stop feeling hungry? Scientists are now starting to discover links between life-threatening illnesses and sleep deprivation, including Breast cancer (especially women involved in shift work) and heart disease. Even reducing your sleep by one hour a day could have a significant impact. A major study showed that reducing your sleep by 2 hours from 7 hours a night to 5 hours a night increases our chance of premature death by up to 70%. So by gaining a few extra hours a night by not sleeping are we in fact risking losing this time later on.
Perhaps instead of finding ways to get more hours in the day and get more out of our lives, we should be looking at ways of having better nights sleep. If you don’t get some sleep now, the saying ‘We can sleep when we are dead’ might happen sooner than you realise.

Its 9am Easter Sunday Morning and I just wanted to wish all my readers a very happy easter, I hope you all got loads of chocolate eggs to indulge yourself on. My kids have plenty of chocolate to send them completely loopy and buzzing round the house for a few days on a chocolate high.
So where did Chocolate Easter Eggs come from? It seem the the first chocolate eggs appeared around the early 1800’s, starting in France and Germany before spreading across the rest of Europe. At first they were solid because chocolate as it is now didn’t exist and making hollow eggs was a far more difficult process involving making a paste from ground roasted Cacao beans. With the discovery of modern chocolate making processes and mass products methods, chocolate eggs soon became the easter gift of choice in the UK and by the 60’s this had spread worldwide.
Thanks for taking the time to reading my blog, hope everyone has a great easter break

Okay, firstly don’t be offended if I didn’t include your blog here, its nothing personal. I’m mentioning these blogs because I think they are really cool and worth checking out.
The crazy blog of Emi !!! - I love this blog, really cool posts from a really great girl. I always look forward to reading what she has to say and her most recent post Day of Love was one of the best valentine blogs I found, it made a change from all the ‘I hate valentines day’ posts that seem to fill a lot of the other blogs. The other thing that is really cool about this blog, is its pretty clear of any advertising, which to me shows that this is someone who blogs just because they love blogging (to many bloggers start with the intention of making money and nothing else).
Bad Boys Media - This blog has the slogan ‘Whoever dies with the coolest toys….. Wins!’ - Okay, I admit it, I’m a boy and I like boys toys and this blog has some really cool gadgets on it. The Toast me a Message Toaster is really cool, its a must have gadget for anyone who wants to write message to there guests at breakfast time :D. I definitely going to have to get one of those Nokia 888 Concept phones, Oh! wait its a concept phone - Anyway, thanks for keeping me up-to-date with all the gadgets I don’t need but must have
Last but not least.. Politics People and Pot…Because You have to be HIGH to believe some of this stuff. Some really interesting posts on this blog, and unlike most blogs you do know what this bloggers been smoking before he posted. Seriously though, a lot of stuff to make you think. Great blog, thanks
I was going to post about the worst three blogs I found on the internet, but decided that was probably too mean (Maybe thats an idea for another post), also I didn’t really want to give these blogs any extra links or traffic.
For those who know me, you will already know that both my sons have a condition known as Cerebral Palsy, see the picture on the right. Ethan is on the left and Luca is on the right. As you can probably tell from the photo they are two great kids and a real inspiration to me.
Another true inspiration is a comedian named Josh Blue (www.JoshBlue.com), he has become one of the hottest comedians in the US.
Josh is an extremely likeable person with an amazing sense of humour. He uses his humour to defy stereotypes and encourage others and refuses to allow the challenges of living with Cerebral Palsy get in the way.
“His unique brand of ‘reverse teasing’ affords him the great joy of ‘humbling condescending people.’”
While surfing the internet for some interesting ideas for your next blog post or your myspace page (And I’m specifically looking at you in this instance), you see a cool image and think, I could use that. Without further thought you copy the image location and link to it from your site (so the image looks like its on your site). This is called Hotlinking (or bandwidth theft).
2 Reasons why you shouldn’t hotlink :
The old switcheroo - Which is when the image you hotlink to is changed, sometimes for humorous results, sometimes not. Yes it can be amusing for the webmaster to change an image, but if the image violates your hosts policies it can offend your readers and get your site shut down.
Violation of copyright - Possibly the more serious of the two. If you don’t own the rights or have the right to publish an image on your site, you can have legal proceedings against you which can be costly and again have your site shut down. By hotlinking you are also leading the site straight to you as it slaps a nice referal link in their stats.
So why am I so interested in hotlinking? Well some kind person from MySpace, with a popular profile, has decided to hotlink some of my images, this morning alone the image had over 2000 views, eating up my bandwidth and resources. I try to only use images I am allowed to use, for example stock images and images covered by the ‘fair use’ rules in the US.
If you are hotlinking my images, do me a favour and right click, save as, and upload the image to your site (This isn’t me giving permission to use the image, but if you are going to steal it, do it properly). I may in due course change all my images to get some nice free advertising on your site if you don’t >:)
