You’re Invited

babyshower-invite

I’ll be posting the official rules at a later time. I’ll also be posting a list of sponsors and what they’re giving away. During the event, I’ll profile each sponsor separately so you can learn a little more about who they are and what they’ve offered.

I’ve decided that, due to the economy, one person should be blessed with everything being offered. I’m a huge believer that it is “better to give than to receive” and I want someone who needs things for a new baby to win. Start thinking of people you know who could really use their own baby shower. OR, maybe YOU could really use it. I would never frown on a personal entry over a nomination. I just want to help another family.
You may wonder how I plan on making the decision. Well, I have a plan and I will reveal it in my official rules.
I hope MANY, MANY people will nominate families. Let’s start out the new year thinking of others.

We’re Moving on Up!

Hello, and WELCOME to my very own DOT COM!!

(please don’t pay attention to the dust and try not to breathe in too much of the fresh paint fumes.)

I’ve been working very diligently on this new website and can’t wait to get moved in.  Thanks to a some quick lessons in WP and some coding tricks, I’m finding my way around.

Isn’t it fun to type in thoughtsfromthemrs.com?? I just love it.

Anywho, I don’t plan on completely neglecting my blogspot but most of my reviews/giveaways/events will be hosted right here. SO, that means you shouldn’t waste any time finding your way to the top of the page so you can subscribe to my feed. (Click on “Entries RSS”)  AND, while you’re at it, you can grab my fancy, new button. How cute is that?

(I’ll get links up for that button very soon)

I’m excited for the dot com and I’m even MORE excited for the BIG EVENT coming up RIGHT HERE.

(sorry, i type in caps when I get excited. I hope it’s not too loud for you.)

Keep your eyes peeled for your “invitation”. I wouldn’t want you too miss out.

How I Spent My Sunday

Yesterday marked the official day my brother would be home for good after his tour in Iraq. My family and I went to a high school about an hour from home to see his ceremony and bring him home. Following the ceremony, my brother requested McDonalds so we headed off to the nearest Golden Arches. Yum. :)

I have an extremely special picture to share with you. Are you ready? Grab your Kleenex…

Now, before I start crying again (as I do every time I look at this picture), I’ll share with you my bit of funny. My “little” brother is actually WAY taller than I am. Yesterday, I was wearing about 4 inch heels. Thank goodness I was too. Otherwise, my face would have been in his armpit and I wouldn’t have this beautiful moment to share with you. :)

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

The Toddler Bed…dun, dun, dunnnn!

A lot of you asked me to keep the blog updated with my toddler bed adventures. I told each of you that I would be SURE to do just that. I even have a “bestie” who’s going to be facing the “toddler bed adventures” during her husband’s time off this Christmas too.

The plan was set in our house. We would face the challenge come the evening of December 23rd. On December 24th, we are heading to my in-laws and need to bring the broken down crib to store in their basement. We have no room to store it here.

The hubster and I started talking about it more and more as we came closer to our set date. Would Alex freak out? Would he get out of bed 1000 times and keep us up all night? Would he decide he likes his bed so well that he sees it as another place to play? The questions were endless. The stress level was high.

The hubster dropped a bomb on me Thursday evening.
“Why don’t we just start Alex in his bed on Friday? That way he’ll get most of the kinks worked out before Christmas.”

“Hah…as in TOMORROW, Friday? You want to start tomorrow? Oh, man. I’m not ready for tomorrow!

“OK, you’re right. We’ll start Saturday evening.”

“Ummmm. OK      ???”

Well, I was obsessing even more about Alex’s big switch from the crib to the toddler bed. Then, I remembered that my brother’s officially returning home from his duty in Iraq on Sunday. (He’s been in Texas going through his medical check-ups and such.) There’s a ceremony scheduled for the early afternoon.

“Hun,” I said when he returned from work, “I think we should start Alex in his bed tonight. What if he has a really rough time and then has to go to the ceremony on Sunday? He’s never going to make it through the day.”

There.  Decision made.

I moved around some things in Alex’s room to make sure there weren’t any super fun toys out for him to play with. When everything was in it’s place and Alex’s bed was put together, I let him in the room to check it out.

As I watched him play on his bed, I did “it”. I did the mom thing. I cried like a baby. I couldn’t believe he was big enough to have his own bed. I’m such a sap.

So we officially started Alex in his toddler bed last night. (What? Are we crazy?)

How’s it going? Well, um….I’m hesitant to say this. I don’t want to get my friend’s hopes up. It’s going perfect.

Last night was a tad bit rough. Alex cried pretty hard when we left him in his bed. Mike sat in his room with him until he fell asleep. Sometimes Alex just needs to know that someone’s going to be there for him so one of us will sit on his floor until he’s calm and sleeping.  Alex never woke up and he actually slept in a little. Nice.

Today, we had to face our first nap time with the new bed. I tucked Alex in and left his room. Again, he started crying. I looked at the hubster and pouted a big pout. Then, Alex suddenly stopped crying. HE STOPPED CRYING! YAH! AND, he went right off to sleep. Wonderful.

About an hour ago (8:30), we put Alex to bed.

Did he put up a fight? No.
Did he cry? Nope!
Did he lay down and go right to sleep? DING, DING, DING! YES! AMAZING!

I’m SURE there will be days when Alex will think it’s play time and try to run around rather than sleep. I’m sure I will have fun stories to tell about Alex in his big boy bed. For now, though, there is only peace. Peace and a good night’s rest.

Here’s to our Christmas Miracle! Cheers!

Penn Says

I was reading the blog of someone I grew up with and she had posted this. She said it really got her thinking so I was curious enough to take 5 minutes and watch. Well, Lori, I watched it and it brought me to tears.
Maybe you have 5 minutes to spare too. Please watch this and see if it doesn’t make you think.

Thank you, Lori. I’m a little changed after this.

Aloha Friday 12-19

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Kailani’s question is:
What is your favorite Christmas song?
That’s a tough one since I enjoy them all. My favorite would have to be O Holy Night.

My question:
Which Christmas gift are you the most excited to give?
I can’t wait to see Alex’s reaction to his Little People Racin’ Ramps Garage.

Snowed in and Blurry Vision…

Well, the big BLIZZARD of Winter ‘08 has hit. It’s snowing like crazy outside and has been from about 4:30am.  You would think area’s citizens would stay-in and accept defeat but not MY hubster. Oh, no. He woke up, got ready, and drove his little Ford Focus through the blizzard to his job that is normally 30-40 minutes away. Thank goodness he’s safe.

Alex and I have a fun day of chill-axin’ in store. We’ve got our favorite videos, some awesome new things to play with (thanks to his little santas) and a few art projects in mind if things get too boring. We may get cabin fever but we’ll be safe, warm, and together.

The view from our 3rd story condo.

The snow is piling up on our balcony.

Now, I’m trying to figure out what is going on with my eye balls. For some reason my vision is really blurry today. Normally, my eyes are fine. I do have to wear glasses for reading but that’s it…and it’s a very weak perscription at that. I thought today was just like any other until I got a text message from the hubs. The letters were standing on top of themselves AND if I didn’t know which letters went to which number on my keypad, I would never have been able to respond to him. Even now, at this very moment, I see a blurry version of what I’m typing.  What is going on?

Hmmm….well, I hope it passes.

Dearfoams (review and giveaway)

One word. Heaven. That’s all you need to say to describe these slippers

“Dearfoams is the world’s most recognized slipper brand

Slippers have evolved from a beloved seasonal gift into the year-round accessories footwear category favorite, and nobody knows more about accessories footwear than the Dearfoams® company. We introduced Angel Treads®, the world’s first foam-soled, soft, washable slipper in 1947, and 10 years later, we literally created the accessories footwear category with our introduction of Dearfoams® slippers to department store hosiery and accessories departments.” (taken from the Dearfoams website.)

I received my Dearfoams last week and these have been GLUED to my feet ever since. They’re so comfortable it’s unbelievable. Here are the ones I have:

These are Dearfoams DF106 in Pearl.

I love the way these slippers fit on my feet. They’re clogs but they have a high back that holds my foot in. That means I don’t have to worry about them slipping off while I chase my toddler around. :)

The fluffy insides of the Dearfoams makes it feel like you’re walking on a cloud. The outside of the slipper is made from microfiber velour. Soft, soft, and more soft live all over these Dearfoams.

Yes, it’s true. I love my Dearfoams. AND Dearfoams would like you to love them too.

The Giveaway!
One lucky winner will win their choice of slipper from Dearfoams.

Packing Peanut Fun

Alex received his Christmas gift from my sister and her husband. We took the gift out of the box and placed it under the tree. THEN, Alex discovered how fun packing peanuts are. :)

oh. joy.

I try to encourage Alex to play and learn as long as it’s safe. I set the ground rule that these DO NOT go in his mouth and he never tried to sneak one by me. We were having fun discovering texture, color, sound, and static together. Then, of course, when Alex got bored with it, he didn’t seem to0 eager to want to help clean up. Here’s how our conversation went:

Don’t you just love toddlers? He cracks me up.
