Dave’s Free Car Repair Advice

Car repair question? Ask Dave - he’ll do his best to help you figure out what’s wrong with your car & how to get it fixed so it’s running like a new one.

Ashley tells me:  My ‘05 Ford Escape has recently started doing something odd. When I take freeway trips (30-minutes or longer), after exiting off and coming to a light/stop, my car stalls out and dies. After a minute or two, I can start her up again — as long as I’m giving her a lot of “juice”. This is not a daily issue since I’m not getting on the highway for work, etc. Any insight??

Ashley, first you need to have the engine trouble codes checked and repaired. Secondly, you need to have a tune up and have all the filters changed.

James asks:  when I am braking at 50mpr to 70mpr i get a vibration in the steering wheel can you tell me why please

James, this could be from many different issues. It could be alignment, your tires, how they are worn, the pressure in them. It could be the brake rotors are warped, but most likely, if you are in a front wheel driven vehicle, the CV joints are getting a bit worn out and are loosening a bit, as are other front end components.

Have it checked out at a front end shop. Good luck James…

Kellie tells me:  can you tell my why a car collision place would remove the door handle on a new car. The car was hit on the front guard and wheel there is no body damage to the door it is not aligned that is about it. It seems odd

Kellie, I can think of a couple of things like, to fix the ease of operation of the handle, to paint or spray a clear coat on the door, to get another key make if lost, to try and open door if stuck while trying to adjust properly.

Mark says:  got a mgf 2001rad fan not working and engine bay fan not working check fuses there ok.

Mark, it seems to me that you need to check the temperature sensors on the engine which controls the on/off function of the fans. Good luck…
