Healthy and safe dieting

by Ojars Rubenis

Quite often dieting, starvation and popping weight loss pills are considered to be equal. It's completely wrong opinion. Dieting and weight loss can be pleasant and relatively easy achievable. Still the most effective and healthy weight method is a combination of healthy diet and exercises.

Also healthy diet by providing appropriate nutrients will make your body resistant to illnesses and will strengthen your immune system. Apart from that you'll be able to shed the excess fat safely. This method is called natural weight loss.

The main condition of well balanced diet is to include carbohydrates, high-quality protein, and healthy fats rich nutrients. Example bellow will show how many of each nutrient you have to ingest if you're on 1500 calorie diet.

Fats

Fats must make about 20% (or 325 calories) of the daily calorie intake. They must come from good fats: wild cold-water fish, walnuts, flaxseed etc. These give fatty acid called Omega 3 which is necessary for your health.

Proteins

375 calories or about 20-30% should come from "wild" (not processed or farm rose) animal sources such as meat, yogurt, poultry, fish and eggs and from vegetables, whole grains, fruits, seeds and nuts.

Carbohydrates

These make the main part of your calorie intake or about 40-60%. Cut out or restrict these products which contribute to weight gain and add nothing to health: soda-pop, desserts, candies, white flour and ice creams. Instead use vitamin, amino acid and fibre rich products: whole grain cereal, oatmeal, fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads.

General comments:

Olive Oil: Olive oil is a good fat and brings to the body number of benefits. Spinach: Spinach is rich in folic acid, minerals, and vitamins and this is the cheapest source of nutrition for your body. Use this product in your diet as often as possible. Fish: Replace meat with fish at least 2-3 times a week. Fish usually has fewer calories, high in protein, low in fat and it is Omega 3 rich.

Remember that with having a healthy diet you increase the quality of your life significantly. Natural weight loss is the best and safest way to lose weight.

Popular fad diets to lose weight

by Michael Jenkins

You don't need to starve yourself or follow the latest "revolutionary" diet that promises quick weight loss with little effort or sacrifice. The fact is fad diets do not promote long term weight loss. Yes your will lose weight on a fad diet, however is it really a healthy way to lose weight? Let's explore some popular fad diets.

Lemon detox diet

The lemon detox diet has gained massive popularity in recent times. Made popular by celebrities such as Beyonce Knowles, the lemon detox diet aims at cleansing the body of accumulated toxins and reducing weight into a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index). The cleansing element is an attractive selling point, however quick weight loss without strenuous exercise certainly draws in the dieting crowds.

The lemon detox diet is made up of a lemon drink. The lemon drink is made up of cold or hot tea, freshly squeezed lemon, cayenne pepper, and natural tree syrup. Despite the weight loss you will achieve from this fad diet, there are many criticisms towards this diet. It is claimed by expert that this diet is cleverly marketed to those who are desperate to lose weight. However, this diet does not encourage long term lifestyle change. Further that the lack of food encouraged by this diet results in muscle loss. Its not hard to lose weight by following a liquid diet, however it is clear that this is not a sustainable diet to lose weight.

Cabbage Soup Diet

This diet is based around eating as much cabbage soup and fruit you like for seven days. This diet is very low in calories and creates a massive calorie differential between calorie intake vs expenditure. This definitely qualifies as a fad diet as it promises weight loss with little effort or exercise. This diet claims that you will lose 4.5kg in a week. It is claimed that it is nearly impossible to lose that much weight in a week. Most of this weight is in fact water loss.

3 Day Diet

This is one of the most popular fad Diets going around. The 3 day diet is simply a low carb diet. This diet creates a sudden drop in calories and should never be followed for more than three days. Further the lack of calories in this diet means that it has little nutritional value.

As you can see from these three fad diets, they are not long term weight loss solutions. The best way to lose weight and keep it off long term is by following a balanced, calorie and portion controlled diet. Dieting has to be about changing your lifestyle and your habits.
