BMW GINA
If you thought that car ideas for design can’t get any, erm, funkier, I proudly introduce you to BMW’s model of future cars - the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model.
This car has polyurethane-coated fabric, instead of aluminum alloy or any other hard metal alloy, for its skin. Yes, it uses the same material found in any other plastic products, supported by frames made of carbon fiber and metal alloy. The car is so unique you can take off the skin and wash it just like any other laundry (I think) and put it back on the car in two hours. The skin seems to have a great impact on total weight of the car since most of the metal are taken off and replaced with lightweight material.
What I am concerned about is the way it handles car crashes and accidents. Will it be able to protect the passengers from crash impacts? Or can it reduce damages to other cars and people in case of accidents? In any case, the design is still a design and no announcements yet if BMW has begun producing this hi-tech beauty.
GINA stands for Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ Adaptations, a new vision of future cars and because of this new idea, car designs may change forever.
