Oahu Revealed: The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond

Oahu RevealedThe restaurant section alone is worth the price of the book!

You're time in Oahu is extremely valuable because you can only do so much (even if you're staying two weeks).  The author of Oahu Revealed has some pretty strong opinions on what to see and do. He even tells you where to hike and snorkel and all of the best beaches.  In a nutshell, he tells you what you need to know to prepare for your Hawaii vacation. The book is entertaining and easy to read AND it has lots of color
photos to backup attraction descriptions.

Highly recommended - you can purchase Oahu Revealed here.

If You Can Only Learn Two Hawaiian Words, Learn Aloha & Mahalo

AlohaMany people come here to visit and leave with a dessire to learn more about our culture and our language. My advice, for what it's worth, is simple...

If you can only learn two words in Hawaiian, learn these:

Aloha & Mahalo

They are two of the most important words in the Hawaiian language, representing our paramount Hawaiian values.

After you've learned those two values, then work on these:

akahai, lôkahi, `olu`olu, ha`aha`a, and ahonui.

Aloha ~

Mele Kalikimaka and Personalized Christmas Cards

The song says... "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Thanksgiving is coming and Christmas is close behind, so let me be the first to say.

"MELE KALIKIMAKA"

Yep...

The Christmas holiday is fast approaching and I have already started designing my own personalized Christmas cards. I do it every year and I use VistaPrint because I get to be creative. I like to put a personal message in my card and a picture or my Shih-Tzus, and VistaPrint lets me do all of that online.

VistaPrint has hundreds of holiday designs starting at $3.99 on high-quality stock. All of their designs include a space for a personal photo and customized text (on the front and the back). Designing a card on their website is super fun to do, and it's a unique and affordable gift.

Personally, I think giving Christmas cards with a personalized message is very thoughtful.

Happy Holidays !

XBox 360 Contest and a Review of The Oahu Test Drive Game

XBox HawaiiThose of you that know me are probably aware that I'm a contest/sweepstakes NUT.

It's a weakness I guess, but I love to enter online contests and I just can't let a good one pass me by. Laugh at me if you want, but read some of my previous posts and you'll know that I have had my share of wins. It's very cool to get the phone call with the good news - I LOVE it!

Will you shout for joy if you receive a free Xbox 360 console in time for Christmas? If you win it, they have this super cool racing game that takes place in Hawaii called Test Drive: Unlimited. It's a
massively multiplayer online racing game ("MMORG") and it is awesome - very different from every other racer that I've played. They have mapped out the island of Oahu in all its digital glory (Honolulu, Waikiki, Haleiwa, etc), and the whole island is in there. So here's where the sweepstakes comes in...

I found a sweet new sweepstakes contest today from my favorite high speed internet provider, Charter Communications, that I wanted to pass on. You can enter the Charter Communications Xbox Sweepstakes by ordering any Charter Comunications service online or by simply registering on their website. An Xbox 360 will be given away every day until December 15.  Here's the prize package:

XBox 360® Pro Console
XBox LIVE Headset
Wireless Controller
Component HD AV Cable
20Gb Detachable Hard Drive

If you're a gamer like me, you'll dig Charter HD and their blazing fast high-speed Internet. The HD is cool because you get a  picture quality that is 6X sharper than standard TV. The high-speed is great because it's uber-fast! Right now, Charter will let you try everything risk-free for 30 days and enter you to win 1 of 45 Xbox 360® consoles in the process. For complete Sweepstakes Rules go to https://connect.charter.com/XBox/rules.html

Holy shmoly - that ROCKS! I'll see you on the streets of Oahu :-)

My Warriors Are Not Doing So Well :-(

Haka Hawaii WarriorsMy Warriors are not doing so well :-(

Lots of missed opportunities yesterday added up to a pretty deflating loss for Hawaii U, and our post-season bowl hopes are vanishing kinda' quickly. I agonized with my friends as we went scoreless on four of our five trips to the red zone (including three that were inside the Utah State 9) and I shed a tear when Utah State defeated us 30-14.

The Warriors stay on the road this week and face New Mexico State on Saturday in Las Cruces. They now have to go 3-1 down the stretch to remain bowl eligible.

Want to Know What Steals my Aloha?

Haka Want to know what really steals my aloha...?

Want to know what makes me want to haka...?

It's hard for me to see my mobile phone's display when I'm out in the direct sunlight, especially when I'm on the beach. My aloha therefore, gets ripped when I answer my mobile phone  "blindly" to a telemarketer. Sorry to vent but I absolutely HATE that. Grrrrrrrr!

I always report annoying callers to the reportphonenumbers.com website and move on.

Just wanted to vent :-)

Island Gods Demand Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon Hawaii VirginGuess what?

Rumor has it that Reese Witherspoon is co-starring with Ben Stiller in a movie to be filmed here in Honolulu. The plot centers around a weapons specialist who must appease the island gods by throwing a virgin into a volcano. Reese Witherspoon is the virgin!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, Ben Stiller is a disgraced weapons specialist sent to Hawaii to launch a satellite. He requires the help of the native islanders who are more than willing to oblige as long as island gods are appeased. Naturally, the way we appease gods here is by feeding virgins to volcanoes

- a virgin sacrifice if you will. Hard to figure Hollywood out these days...
