At the suggestion of a ghostly assassin dubbed “Dead Grant”, Ninja Dan has trekked across Eastern Europe to arrive at a gypsy camp where he hopes to revive a mysteriously incapacitated Eben07.

Declassification Notes

Pretty straight forward update concerning all the characters in the story thus far. As we build to the conclusion of “Part Two” next Tuesday, it was critical to get everybody on the same page about the status of the band of I.C.A. company men as they assault Castle Vampirexia.

And all the while I still get to be asleep…and dreaming…

D.Bethel’s Notes:

Welcome to the first Eben07 strip of 2009!  I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response to the artistic change.  Someday soon I’ll make a new blog post about how I do the strip now, in response to the post I made about the old way of doing things.  It’s pretty cool to have actual artwork instead of just assorted sketches.

I hope everyone had a safe new year.  I haven’t yet made any resolutions (other than to play Fallout 3), but I’d love to hear some suggestions.  Post your New Year’s Resolutions in the comments! Help me become a better person!

Eben07 and DBethel Battle Lego Indiana Jones

D. Bethel recently acquired an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and with it Lego Indiana Jones. I also was able to snag a copy for my Wii thanks to an amazon.com gift certificate.

I really love these Lego games. They are just a great throwback to platformers, and cater to that addictive collectible mentality I have. I have to unlock everything. I want to see all the games wonders.

The problem is that I want to play it - and play it a lot. I’ve binge sessioned it quite a bit already and I need to calm down. I don’t want it to be done.

There was a pretty big gap between Star Wars and Indiana Jones Lego games. The Batman looks enticing, too - DBethel has been quick to point out it is getting mixed reviews.

I would just love to see more of these games. I am sure a Lego Harry Potter is in the works…. possibly a sponge bob… maybe a Lord Of The Rings?

While I doubt I would mind them doing a Lego game of any of the Lego lines, like Pirates, Agents, or what not. I would be wary of the lack of source material to parody. This is apparently the trapping of the Batman game. Without Indy and his dad’s quirky acting out some of the best parts of the Last Crusade, how will they get that same humor and fun?
I think the best part of the LEGO games are those cut scenes, where we know the original so well, the references make the cutesy acting of the LEGO guys hilarious.

Anyway, I strongly endorse LEGO Indiana Jones - particularly because it has nothing to o with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull… even though I would love to send Mutt Williams into the fiery demise of Kali Ma…as I did with LEGO Jar Jar sooo soo many times into the Mighty Sarlacc.

2009 Goes to the Movies

Movies, there are going to be a LOT of movies I want to see in 2009…these are only the short list that I know of becaue they are in that hype circle I follow.

I know I am forgetting some - tell me what I am forgetting… What are you excited about seeing?

What to Expect in 2009

After discussing it with J. Herman Shepard, it looks like D. Bethel and I can share some of the planning for 2009.

Comics and Content

We’re hoping to wrap up Operation : For the Love of Russia in a couple months. We anticipate it ending in April or May.

After that, we’re looking to do the following declassication arcs:

1. A historical piece about I.C.A. Founder, Abel, in Cuba.

2.Declassification of Eben07 and Ninja Dan during their time at I.C.A. training

We expect there to be about two other arcs that we can’t at this time elaborate on at all for security reasons.

In terms of content, we’re hoping to get some more work done on dossiers and continue to bring immersive content.

More background on the agents and workers of the I.C.A.

Plans and Goals

First, we are currently in the process of creating some affordable merchandise. Hopefully, this will be available in January even. The powers that be just have to make sure it meets the quality we’re looking to bring to people.

Most items will be posters, and some other small assorted items. We’ll also work on creating orderable copies of some of the highest rated comics of each declassification.

After Operation : For the Love of Russia ends, we’re going to put it in a collection and deliver that to fans of that series can have a palpable copy of the archive. We’ll do a presale that will have signed copies and some top-secret bonuses.

Outside of moi-chandise, we want to visit some local comic book shops, attend some comic conventions, and make some public appearences.

We’re considering doing a monthly podcast for 07 Days as well. However, that still may be a ways off thanks to J. Herman’s Shepard’s last reaction to a D. Bethel and Eben07 podcast - we shall see though.

Our main goal is to keep this as much fun for us as it has been the last year, build on that momentum and hopefully that’ll resonate with people and turn into more fans of the comic. Even though we are congressionally forced to declassify, we really enjoy creating the comic weekly. It is a lot of fun and a great break from using club soda and salt to remove those tough espionage stains.

Thanks again for reading the Eben07 comic and please let us know if there are things you’d like to see from us or what in the list above you’re excited about.

Cheers!

Field Operative

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year

May 2009 Lead to a Brighter Future for All of Us!

Nice Knowing You, 2008.

New Year’s Eve is a great time for reflection, so we are joining the trend and letting the public know our general glee with 2008. Over the course of the year we’ve had a lot of changes, but all in all I think 2008 was a success for the comic.

2008 By The Numbers

Content

We released 50 new comics in four Operations!

20 more to complete one of our more significant story arcs with Operation Clean the Cleaners - putting that at its near literal cliffhanger.

The we recounted a historic adventure of ICA founder Abel and how the Smithsonian Institute became a thorn in the ICAs side in Operation : Idols Unfit for Display with 6 comics

Eben07 and Ninja Dan fought the Smithsonian Institute for control of relics Operation Goofinger by adding another 8 comics to that series and concluding it.

Then we launched back into our current epic, Operation For the Love of Russia, with another 16 comics and our first ever guest comic.

So being a weekly comic, we nearly had a comic per week this year. While this isn’t year one for Eben07, it certainly was our most productive year.

Traffic

We are still a small fish in a big pond, but I swell with pride when I see our numbers in Google.  We had about 50,000 unique visitors over the course of 2008, and viewed in 111 countries. Somebody in Ecudor seemed to really like the comic, but we were mostly viewed by Americans, British, and Canadians.

Highlights

  • The Fan Art Contest was really really cool to see how other people doodled with Eben07 characters.
  • The Timeline from OurStory.com was one of my favortie additions in content to the site.
  • Revamping the site was a great learning experience, and all in all - while it isn’t finished - I think the site is coming along swimmingly and is complimenting the comic well.
  • Getting the honorable mention from the Webcomic Readers Choice Awards and seeing our fans support us was really touching. As a small comic, it was great to see the loyalty and support from fans.
  • The guest art and talking with Stephen Lindsay and Lauren Monardo about comics and really enjoying working with them on that piece and options we have for where to take Eben07 in the future.

Thank Yous

First on my list would be Wolf Gunnison - thanks for popping in everyday and taking time out of your day to comment on the things we do. It really makes our day.

Thanks to Frumph @ Frumph.net for the tech help and Comic Press modding. Absolutely could not have done this site without his help.

Stephen Lindsay and Lauren Monardo for the Guest Comic -everybody remembers their first time, and we’ll never forget this because they just did such a spectacular job.

Kurt at Two Guys Talking Webcomics for using us as a safety and getting us on a podcast.

Mad Hollywood Man for always taking the time to StumbleUpon us and throw in two cents there.

The silent majority that reads our comic but isn’t ready to talk about reading our comic.

and lastly, but not least, our patient, understanding, and incredibly beautiful girlfriends.

All Quiet on the 07 Front

It has been pretty quiet around here the past few days. We’re hanging around, but I think I can speak for both D. Bethel and myself in that we are working on our goals and hopes for 2009 - things we want to bring to the Eben07 comic and how best to go about them.

I’m going to try to do a post summing up what has happened this year in the comic, as well as trying to capture how we’ve grown in the public eye. As well as some of the highlights of 2008.

So expect that very very soon…maybe the 31st :)

Post-Christmas Bliss, pt. II

Since Eben07 posted his reaping from this holiday season, I only felt it was fair to do the same.

I don’t really ask for many things for the holidays; mostly they are times when I just like to sit back and take in the ambiance: I act Scrooge-style in appearance, but am completely taken in by the nostalgic contentment this time of the year brings.  I like the cold, I like the smells of the holidays, but being one who never really expects anything to be gifted to me (for whatever reason) I always become slightly surprised and frightened when presented with, uh, presents.

As I’ve gotten older, I find that most of my family send me checks with a holiday greeting in the memo, something I actually appreciate more.  This year, I decided that I’d save a little and take whatever else I got in holiday cash to buy myself an XBox 360, which I did.  Finally, I’ve joined the new generation of gaming (now officially 3 years late to the party, just about the same time frame when I got my PS2 so many years ago).  As of yet, I have few “Friends” on XBox Live, so if you’d like to befriend me (and I think this is all I need to do) my “Gamertag” is simply DBethel.

I hope everybody else made out as well as 07 and I did.  Be sure to also check 07’s holiday score below and add your comments to it.

Post-Christmas Bliss

One reason I like Christmas so much is that it is a time when you can really take a day off. After waking up, and being humbled by the generosity of the gifts from friends and family, I went off into the park and fed ducks and squirrels. Took a nice walk and then went off and had some Hong Kong style Chinese food before going on a tour of the Christmas lights in the city. It was a real relaxing day.

This morning, I’ve been playing with the toys and assorted gifts. Wii Music came under the tree, and the past two mornings have been spent on the Wii fit, and then jamming with crazy musical fun. I’ve thumbed through the box sets of Calvin & Hobbes and Tintin. I think though, my favorite gift was probably getting set up to return to my forgotten hobby of home-brew. My Hazelnut Porter should be done by mid January.

Christmas was a lot of fun, relaxing, and very happy this year. Anybody else have a good story to share?
