Some blogs attract thousands of views per day and if you advertise on the correct blog, it will definitely help your business. Ip Man review

Ip Man is Ye Wen (叶问) in Cantonese. Some of my friends pronounced it as IP (internet protocol) Man and made a fool of themselves. Ip Man is an action-packed movie and I love every minute of it.

Ip Man (played by Donnie Yen) is a practitioner of a Chinese martial art style called Wing Chun (永春); he led a carefree life in Foshan, China and spent most of his time practicing Wing Chun and sparring with other martial art masters. However, his life was disrupted when Japan invaded China during WW2. During the Japanese occupation, Ip Man's fighting ability attracted the attention of Japanese general, Miura and he wanted Ip Man to teach the Japanese soldiers his fighting style. But Ip Man refused the offer and challenged Miura to a duel. Ip Man eventually defeated Miura and his actions served as a wake up call to the whole of China to rise and repel the invaders.

I am not afraid to provide spoilers as the actions are the main attractions of the film. The plot is neat and easy to understand and the flow of the movie is well-structured ; it gradually builds up to the climax at the end of the show. There is really not a wasted minute in this movie and the only flaw I can pick is that the fights are not really very realistic. But are there any movies that are realistic? I would give Ip Man 4.3/5. It is really a great show and I almost signed up for Wing Chun lessons after watching it. Haha...

Is planting a tree so difficult?

Yes, it is certainly not easy to plant a tree in Singapore. Mr Mohammad Tajeran has been cycling around the world and planting trees in every country he had been to. In doing so, he hopes to spread the word that we can save the Earth from climate changes. But after planting about 900 trees around the world, he finally hits an obstacle here in Singapore.

Well it seems that Mr Mohammad Tajeran has hit an obstacle

Mr Mohammad Tajeran's plan was to plant a tree in a school, however, to plant a tree in a school in Singapore, permission has to be sought. The permit would only come after a week or so and Mr Mohammad Tajeran would not be able to stay here for that long. So he is not able to plant a tree here in Singapore, which is ironically called the 'Garden City'.

From this incident, we can clearly see how inflexible our system is. Though setting clear rules and regulations will ensure order, people should be given certain rights to response to special cases. Is planting a tree a big issue? I don't think so. I think the school principal should have enough power to make such a small decision. So lesson learned from this incident: If you want to do something extraordinary in Singapore, do get your permit way earlier.

Dangers of binge drinking

Binge drinking is the consumption of more than 5 alcoholic drinks in a short span of time (usually 2 hours). According to a recent study by the Health Promotion Board of Singapore, binge drinking is a real and rising trend among teenagers in Singapore. After looking at the report, I think I should make a post on this unhealthy trend.

Safety and moral issues:
  • Death or injury due to drunk driving crash.
  • Pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases due to unintended sexual activity.
  • Being the victim or perpetrator of date rape or other assault.
Health issues:
  • Alcohol poisoning.
  • Alcohol addiction.
I think some of you may not know that you may die if you drink too much alcohol at one go. Drinking too much alcohol within a short period of time will greatly increase one's blood alcohol content (BAC) in one's body. A very high BAC can cause central nervous depression, loss of consciousness and even death.

Some other effects of alcoholism

Nobody will want to be involved in any of the dangers that I mentioned above and seriously, I am wondering why people binge drink. Alcoholic drinks are expensive; don't they find it a waste to drink them all up at one go? They should really learn how to enjoy their drink.

IE security vulnerability

All IE (Internet Explorer) users should be careful now as Microsoft updated their security bulletin to inform users of their browser's new vulnerability. The newly discovered flaw could potentially allow remote code execution. To put it simply, the flaw in IE could allow a third party to execute programs (potentially viruses or other malwares) on your computer without direct access to your PC. The flaw is found in IE6, IE7 and even IE8 beta.

There are several workarounds provided by Microsoft to help minimize the risk of being attack. To protect yourself you can follow these instructions (a pretty detailed list provided by PCMag), or simply switch to other browsers; I recommend Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
