15 Minutes of fame

I forgot to post this when it happened, blame it on other things and work being what it is.
But Now that I have a moment as I lay in bed with a cold, I can now show off my 15 minutes of twitter/geek fame.

Yep I was on Lifehacker.com.au; well ok my twitter ID and comment was, it was a totally surprise to see it there when I opened up the web site to have my daily read, but there I was and talk about exciting.
I ended up mentioning it on Twitter, then SMSing my boss to say I was like totally famous now (*snort*)

I know one good thing that came out of that appearance, I seemed to get at least 5 new followers on Twitter in the three or so days following the article showing up.

It’s amazing what a little comment can do, just means that no matter what you say or do on twitter now, someone somewhere will know about it even after the fact.

Enter the realm of the iPhone Tech Talk Tour

Today I went to the hottest ticket for iPhone and Apple development in the world, the iPhone Tech Talk Tour.
A day full to the brim with all the things that all apps developers needed to know, and other things that I’m sure they didn’t think they needed to know but learned anyways.

For me the day started out very early, 5am to be exact – with everything to do with the country, I had to get the train down from Seymour so I think I had a bit of a mental set back with the lack of sleep that found my brain not really working that well.

Once I arrived and met up with my Boss, we both signed in and picked up our name tags that do look very stylish with a bright red lanyard (Won’t get lost wearing this thing!)
Then it was off to the main lecture area for the opening address and rules for the day, which as usual included a request not to blog about anything we where told, so I won’t get in to the technical side of the day just in case, but I will say this – I can not wait to give one of the programs a try.
One of the cute things we where show was the T-shirt for today’s talk, a nice baby/sky blue shirt with Melbourne written on it which we where asked not to put on Ebay today like I think some people might do, but to wait until tomorrow ;)
After the opening address it was time to feel the crowd, so we all migrated like a flock of lemmings up to the catering area to be fed some very nice muffins and fruit along with the usual tea/coffee and fruit juices.
For a free conference I can say the food was bloody brilliant, we had full on catering for both morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, which was surprising as I thought I’d have to get something myself.

After the morning feed, MB and I planned what talks we wanted to attend, tag teaming on a few topics so we’d get a broad range of things to tell each other, which at first was a good idea, but as it got further on in the day my choices and my ability to stay awake was conspiring against me big time so I went against the plan and sort of attended but really didn’t “listen” to the talks I ended up picking.

Thinking about it now a few hours later (typing this on the bus home btw) I was very glad I scored an invite, as it has strengthened my desire to get in to iPhone apps creation and see where it takes me, but also I want to break a stereo type that showed it’s self up today also, out of all the people in attendance there was only five women in the sea of males. (Not including the Gal from Apple)

Talk about an eye opener, I’d have thought there would be a lot more women attending the day, but it seemed not to be the case today.

Three days with Mac

Nearing the end of day three with my new Mac book and over these last few days I have had my eyes opened and had a completely new learning curve thrown my way.
When I was told using a Mac book for the first time after being a windows user for years I’d notice a different they weren’t wrong about that.
Everything about this new computer is different – from the Operating system being functional without being bloated, to the magnetic power cord, it’s all just “right”
Case
The Sleek blackness of my new Mac is still amazing, the only down side is all the finger prints I can see when ever I close the cover, but it’s still pretty cool.
Screen
The crispness of the screen makes looking at web sites not so tiring on my eyes and all the colours are so much better, who’d have thought that what I was seeing was just the basic colour scheme – Now I can see things like I do after I’ve cleaned my glasses – all bright and sparkly.
Installing Programs
Easy as pie just click and it opens and it doesn’t ask you if you REALLY want to do something, which is nice because I was getting sick of that aspect of Windows.

Overall I am very glad I bought my Mac, I might have had a few teething problems when I first started but those where small compared with all the good things I’m sure I’ll be getting up to in the future that I could have never done on a windows machine.

Joining the Realm of the Enlightened

Tomorrow I’ll be joining the world that for some long I’ve just looked in on from the sidelines – the world of Macbook owners.

Yep I’m switching my preferences for a better sleeker laptop and I am Sooooooo excited.

I managed to score myself a refurbished Black Macbook 2.16GHz 13”

with 2Gb RAM,120Gb Hard Disk, Superdrive (burns CD’s & DVD’s) Includes iSight Camera Airport Extreme & Bluetooth from New Wave Systems in Burwood for $1295 and it happened to be the last one they had.
I’ve been saving up for it for a few months and when I saw the Black one from New Wave I just had to have it, I do like the white Macbooks but the black just seems more sleeker and it will match my black Nano, iPhone and Digital camera.

Wisdom of the Wii

0

Written on October 20, 2008 by Megan

I have something to admit dear reader - I’m a Klutz.
Not your everyday ordinary Klutz, I’m a super skilled embarrassing Klutz.

I’m one of those Klutz’s that can injure herself in ways that make mere Mortals shake their heads and feel shamed that they even thought about laughing at my skills.

I’m the kind of person who can tear the medial ligament in their knee just be getting out of bed to answer the phone; who can fracture their elbow walking around people who are just standing in front of her! I can even give myself whiplash from tripping over a small drain-hole that has been in the same spot for nearly 10 years.

My skills are legionary that when a Computer game has the nerve to mention if I have trouble walking and find myself falling over or bumping in to things, I begin to wonder if I should invest in a few personal air bags.

The cause of this confession is the fact that my new Wii and the Wii fit balance board that I’ve been playing with for the last week. That ever so cute little board keeps asking me this question when ever I do the balancing tests on the body testing section each morning.
When I first stepped upon the little board, he measured my right/left balance and proudly stated that I seem to learn to the right a bit, and then had the nerve to ask me if I tripped over my feet at all! Sheesh! I’m that transparent?

Once I got past the fact that the board knows my Klutz skills, I tried a few more of the mini games and exercises, it’s been great so far, but damn the skiing and snow board games are hard, but the ones that show me again how bad I am at my left and rights are the step programs.
Front back, left foot – right foot, now clap your hands.

My Gods! I don’t really need to know that I’m uncoordinated too.
