Unique Metal Makes for Interesting Accessories

IMG_2409
Some of my most recent accessories have features metal pieces that, while not one of a kind, are unusual and interesting in their appearance.  The above Koi earrings contain cage-like metal pieces that I found on a "thing" in an antique mall.  I say "thing" because my mom and I could not figure out what it was.  I think it had something to do with a candle, but I'm not sure.  Below, you see my Organic Meets Industry Earrings, which have a hint of Steampunk in them.  While the wooden beads give these a natural feel, the metal gear-like bead make a swerve in the other direction.  Both pairs are on sale in my Etsy shop.

Ramping up

IMG_2395
The holidays are upon us, and I'm lucky enough to have gotten inspired, in the past week or so, to make new jewelry.  Today, I began my campaign to list lots of new and cool items in my Etsy shop in order to catch shoppers as they begin their holiday purchases.  I listed the above Warm Spice Earrings today which actually contain real spices, including sage, paprika, and so on.  As part of my listing process, I always post my items to Flickr and numerous Flickr groups.  These earrings have gotten loads of views that way.  I also listed The Purple Onion Pendant, below, which features a purple Mexican agate coin.  I love the various shades of purple on this stone!  In the coming days, I should have many new designs to share here!

Merry Christmas, Sushi

IMG_2290
For awhile now, my husband and I had looked, longingly, at the cat trees at the store.  Like for many families, money has been tight in our household for some time, and cat trees aren't really cheap.  I found a cat playground thing on Craigslist that we paid $10 for from a guy whose cats didn't take to it.  However, it was basically four boards, covered in carpet and nailed together in a shape like an roman numeral "2."  She liked that, but it wasn't built well so it fell apart after a few months.  We found ourselves staring at the cat trees again this past week, and I made a deal with my husband - we'll buy the cat tree, but don't get me any presents.  To be honest, watching her play on the cat tree is hilarious and probably gives me as much pleasure as most gifts I could get.  She loves to lay on her side, put all her paws on the carpeted pole, and "run" around like a lumberjack in a log-spinning contest - but sideways.

Festive Flair

IMG_2280
My holiday earrings have never really taken off.  I'm hoping that changes with the above earrings.  I think the rich blue color, coupled with the swirl pattern in the black lampwork beads as well as the reindeer charms, is festive and holiday-like without being too traditional.  As such, these could really be worn at any time, especially during the winter.  This is another pair that, should they not sell, I would not feel too bad about incorporating them into my own jewelry collection.  Below is a pair of ruby jade earrings that I originally created with Ohio State in mind.  I live in central Ohio - you can't fight the buckeye machine.  Anyway, they would also be quite nice for the holidays with their red semiprecious carved stone and silver chain.

Cute Gift Ideas

IMG_2228
Aside from my various animal butt items, I have several other options for your favorite Gourmet of Cuteness.  Pictured above are my Anton the Bunny earrings.  These, like the bunny butt earrings, are made with lightweight ceramic tiles.  Anton is made with permanent black ink.  Below, you can see my CurioMouse earrings.  The largest bead is howlite, with a crackled appearance.  Sometimes, this stone is referred to as "white turquoise."  I love it's cracked-porcelain appearance, myself.  Atop this stone sits an adorable little mouse (although I do understand that they're not so adorable when they're unwanted guests in your home).  Both of these items can be found in my Etsy shop.

Gifts with a Sense of Humor

IMG_2276
As we're all painfully aware, the holidays are right around the corner!  To get ready for this holiday season, I've stocked my shop with a wide range of catbutt earrings, my best seller.  I have everything from solid colors, to tigers, to calicos - even a Christmas-themed calico pair!  In addition, I have posted more ceramic tile bunny butt earrings!  These would be great for the animal-lover with a flair for fun and humor!
