A Mom's Joy for KY

There comes a time in every mother's life when you just have to do it. You have to roll up your sleeves and pull out the KY jelly. I'm sure to get some hits from this post with that word planted here, right?!

Today, Emily and I spent the biggest part of the day shopping. I got some great bargains. I bought most of my nieces and nephews their gifts today. Emily is officially 3 months old today and she was quite the trooper while I shopped. In fact, luckily she slept most of the time I was out. That suited us both quite well.

After I had picked up the other two kiddos from school, she began to be very contrary. This is not her personality at all. Normally the only time she is cranky is when she needs a diaper change or a bottle, so I knew something was wrong. I tried gas drops. I walked around with her. I had the other two kids come and try to play with her. Nothing worked. Then I realized that she had not had a bowel movement yet today.

I said a little prayer as I went to the medicine cabinet in hopes that there would be some suppositories left from when Tyler was a baby (2 years ago). I wondered if they would still be good if we did. I grabbed a chair and dug in the back of the cabinet and much to my relief there was a container with a handful of them! The expiration date was 2010 so all was well.

You know you're a mom when you're excited to find KY and suppositories! Suffice it to say that they did the trick, she had a bottle and slept peacefully for the next two hours while I wrapped a few gifts.

So, how was your day?! Did you use some KY? On second thought, maybe you should keep that to yourself if ya did. I'm sure I don't want to know...

Sweet Niblets!

This phrase is heard quite often around our house. This is the signature phrase made popular by America's Teen Pop sensation, Miley Cirus A/K/A "Hannah Montana". If you've not heard of this girl then you need to climb out from underneath the rock in which you've been residing, dust yourself off and turn on your television, pick up a magazine, or listen to the radio. I assure you it won't take more than five minutes for a mention of her name. This girl is everywhere. I know her daddy, Billy Ray must be so proud as he's moving the decimal point to the left on her earnings. Let's face it, his achy breaky heart blew up a long time ago! Thank God time did erase that mullet.

If you know a little girl who loves Hannah Montana as much as we do around our house, I've got great news for you. The complete first season is now available on Disney DVD. There were no surprises for me because I've seen every single episode, more than once. But, the great news is that there are some awesome bonus features such as a visit to Miley's hometown in Nashville, TN as well as select episodes presented with pop up trivia and interviews with the cast. Now this made those re-run episodes very interesting.

If you're still milling around for something to buy that tween girl on your shopping list, look no further. Here's the perfect solution! For more information on this and other Disney releases, click on over to the Disney website.

Movie Reviews & Christmas Gifts

I have done a bit of Christmas shopping. I bought a couple of gifts week before last because I was afraid that the item that I bought might be a hot gift item this holiday season, so I snagged them up when I saw the shelf stocked. I got Tyler and Shelby both one of those Fisher Price "kid proof" portable DVD players.

We have the ones that mount on the back of the headrest for them to watch, but Tyler gets mad when he has to watch Shelby's favorite movies over and over. If I let him put in and take out his own, he will pull the front off of his DVD player. He almost has a few times.

Last year the kids got the portable digital cameras and they love them. They really are kid proof and my son has put his through the ringer, but it still takes pictures just like it did the day that we bought it. I am hoping that this DVD player will be the same. It has kid friendly buttons, and looks like it'll be easily carried by small hands. I can assure you that my son will put its durability to the test. So, look for more updates after Christmas.

I know that Shelby will love hers because she's got some new DVD Games that she loves to play. She has really enjoyed these games and I must admit that they are pretty neat. Shelby has the Hannah Montana game as well as the High School Musical game. These are two of her favorite Disney programs. We watch Hannah Montana at least twice a day most days. These DVD games are a wonderful idea for those of us who haven't invested a lot of money in those expensive game systems just yet. Shelby is still just a bit too young for one of those, so I found that these DVD games have given her hours of entertainment without breaking the bank. The Hannah Montana DVD game has a pop star audition, band audition drum game, a dance off, as well as a party play option that is perfect for sleep overs! My personal favorite is the drum game. Shelby prefers that dance off. The High School Musical is my favorite of the two. I ♥ HSM. I love the sing along section of this DVD game. I know most of the songs from the movies because Shelby loves them so much. Yes, of course it's because she loves them. *wink* There is also a memory yearbook game, art class, B/F/F quiz and much more. If you've got a young girl on your Christmas shopping list, I would highly recommend either of these games. Kung Fu Panda Review

Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, and Jack Black. What do all of these folks have in common? They were all part of one the greatest animated Martial Arts film since Mulan teaching parents and children alike that things can become special when people believe they are. Jack Black caught my attention in School of Rock. I've been a fan since. This was a major attraction to this movie for me. I knew if he was voicing the main character, Po then it had to be good. I wasn't disappointed. This poor guy starts out with about as much ability to Kung Fu as me and I must admit that this is NOT great. But, with enough determination and torment we can become anything as is proved in this movie. I could give you a play by play of the movie, but you can type Kung Fu Panda in your search engine of choice and read all about it. What I will tell you is that it is out NOW on DVD and my family liked it. I have a three year old son that will not sit still for a 30 minute cartoon on the Disney channel. He watched the entire 88 minute DVD. He loved it and he wanted to watch it again as soon as it was over. I can assure you that the wrapped and ready DVDs that are available in stores now will be under my tree for my neices and nephews this year.  If you'd like more information on this or other Dreamworks pictures, you can click here.  Now, I'm off to learn Po's moves.  I need to lose some of this holiday weight I've gained already!

Hey, Anonymous!

I am not interested in your credit card debt consolidation. I do not need an emergency cash loan. We have a great deal on our vehicle insurance through my husband's business, so I do not need a car insurance quote either. Pay day loans are a rip off, and I do not need to re-finance my home online. We have a perfectly fine banker here.

So, please quit spamming me. Come on, six different comments on the same post. I do not tolerate spam, and I can promise you that no matter how many spam comments you leave me, they will be deleted even if it takes me all day.

Maybe if you weren't anonymous, I could tell you this personally instead of posting it here for others to be bothered with it! Stay away from here. I have no room for your kind here!

Shelby's Story

This post was originally published two years ago on Shelby's birthday, but it's the story of when I became a mother, so I deemed it worthy of republishing on this day. We're having a Tinker Bell skating party later on today. I'll have more details (and I'm sure lots of pictures) to come later. For now, grab some cake and have a read.

On this day six years ago I gave birth to my first child. I became a mother for the first time. I must say that it was one of the happiest days of my life. The others being the day I gave birth to my second child, and the day I wed my husband. I have many blessings in my life, but by far my family is my most cherished.
Shelby was born in 2002 the day after Thanksgiving, or Black Friday as it is commonly referred. She was actually born ON her due date which is a very rare occasion. Thanksgiving was good. I ate more than my fair share of dinner. My sister in law made her famous SPICY Mexican chicken casserole. I ate WAY too much. I was up a big part of the night thinking that I was just having indigestion from the casserole. I could drink water and get heart burn at this point. So, anyhow I was up doing e-mail playing on the internet (I hadn't discovered the wonderful world of blogging as of yet) and I started having a few mild contractions. I dismissed it later as gas pains.

My sister and I had big plans to go to Wal-mart for the "Blitz" sale. They had a Christmas tree half price. Since I had thrown away my old ratty one the year before, it was VERY important to me that I get a tree for my soon to be baby girl. She must have a beautiful tree for her first Christmas. I was up around 4ish. I woke my sister up and we got ready for the adventure. I also woke hubby up because he had not been hunting all year because he was afraid he'd be in the stand when I went into labor. So, he got all his gear gathered up and headed to the woods as we headed to the battle grounds of Wal-mart!We were there about an hour before the sale actually started. We headed back to where they had the trees wrapped in black shrink wrap. We found our place and prepared for that moment when the shrink wrap was to be cut and we'd grab ours and proceed to the the check out counter. While we were waiting, we made friends with the folks around us. They helped us time contractions that started out at 10 minutes apart and quickly progressed to five minutes apart. Lots of the women there were concerned and told me that maybe I should go on to the hospital. I know that was just a ploy to get me away from the trees so they could have them all to themselves!!! Anyhow, when the time arrived they cut the shrink wrap from the trees and the nice people that were timing contractions with me turned into demons. There were people climbing on top of people and big Christmas tree boxes flying over my head. My sister helped me to get a box into our cart and we got the hell outta there. That was the first and ONLY time that I have ever been stupid enough to go to a Friday after thanksgiving sale! We made it to the hospital. Hubby made it there, although when we called him he was hysterical. He came straight from the deer stand to the hospital. He was fully dressed in camo when he arrived by my side at the hospital.

Little did we know that we'd be there for a while. At 5:02pm our first little bundle of joy arrived after a long 10 hours of labor. It was worth every hour, every minute. I would do it again in a heartbeat for her. If someone is out there reading this that does not have children, you cannot understand the love that you can have for another human being. Children are the greatest gift that God can give us. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and I always will. But, the love you have for your children is so different. I look at them and think to myself, WOW I helped to create this life. How in the world could I have had a hand in something so perfect!? (Then they wake up, but while it lasts, it's a good feeling)

Anyhow, Happy Birthday pumpkin.
Mommy loves you bunches...all the way to the top of the moon and back!
