Study Babes Update, and Facebook App Development

Published by SL on Dec 03, 2008 under Affiliate marketing, Blogging, Marketing

Study Babes seems to be quite popular and has been pulling in a consistent ~800 daily visits. This is on days when I do 0 promotion. When I do promote it, for example by dropping a few blog comments that take all of 10 minutes, that number increases to 1000-1100. Not too shabby, considering it takes me 5 minutes a day to update it :D

While traffic is pretty decent, revenue is still quite low. These are some ideas (thanks to everyone who contributed ideas) regarding how to better monetize the traffic:

  • Kontera
  • Rotating banners for dating affiliate programs (like Fling, AFF, Singlesnet)
  • Selling affiliate ebooks (like speed seduction, picking up girls on myspace, etc)
  • Masturbation products (like fleshlights)
  • Privately selling ad space
  • Replacing AFF with sexsearch.com - btw Trent I signed up through your link, just haven’t added any banners to the site yet :)
  • Azoogle has a $3-4 payout for AFF free memberships, would probably convert better than going straight through AFF who pays $120 but only for paid memberships
  • Embedding Megarotic videos - someone suggested this on Wickedfire, not really sure how this would make me money though?
  • Try Fadoo.net vs. Black Label Ads
  • Change title color of text ads so it stands out more
  • Interstitials (like a popup that comes up after a couple minutes or pageviews that makes the user complete an offer to view more content)

That’s it for Study Babes right now, I’m going to try out a lot of these ideas in the coming weeks and see how they work.

———

And I’m looking at developing a Facebook app. Brainstormed some ideas so far, and done a little research into how to monetize them. If anyone has experience with FB apps or monetization of similar products, drop me a comment, or shoot an email to info[at]studybabes[dot]com so we can talk about it.

This is the Best Money Making Blog in the World

Published by SL on Nov 24, 2008 under Affiliate marketing, Blogging, Do nothing lose money

It is. www.stakloaded.net is the best blog related to making money that you will ever read. Well, one of the best, and here’s why:

  • I actually am making money. 99% of kids with “how to make money online” blogs don’t make myself themselves, so why would you take advice from them?
  • I tell you how I make money. I don’t post shit about “omgz guys you should use twitter! its fun!” or any of that bullshit that has nothing to do with anything. I tell you how I’m making money, and I tell you how to make money.
  • I don’t have a bunch of shitty ads. I run this blog as a way to network with other marketers, not to make money. So that pretty much implies that I’m not going to feed you a bunch of useless shit in an attempt to hype myself up.
  • There aren’t a lot of noobs here. I don’t troll Shoemoney and all the other BS sites posting comments so his noobs will come to my site and become my noobs. This is a site for real people who are serious about making real money.

With that said, there’s been a lot of “hype” about this Winning The Web list of the “top internet marketing blogs.” Of course, SL, Nickycakes, and a couple other blogs that are actually useful do not appear on the list. Slightly Shady SEO (one of my favorite blogs) ranks in at #78 while John Chow finished at #6. So right off the bat, we know whoever runs “Winning The Web” is one of the bullshitters who likes to write about making money but actually isn’t making any money. I’ve also seen so many noobs saying how great a list it is (for example Affiliate Confession) that I’m calling them all out: If you read this list and thought it was even halfway decent, you now know you are a motherfucking noob. But look on the bright side, now that you know you’re a noob, you can change your habits and maybe one day move out of noobtown and become a real boy.

Now if you’re a loyal SL reader I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with everything I’ve said. If you’re just browsing through, you might be thinking “nah, it’s a good list, he’s just mad because he’s not on it.” Well, I’m not “mad,” but if I were, it would be because there are so many idiots endorsing bullshit like this that people who are actually serious about working hard see it and get sucked into the bullshitter realm and have now essentially been scammed. Seriously, let’s look at OPPORTUNITY COSTS, and all the money that wasn’t earned because it was all sucked up by the bullshitters, ie. the self proclaimed “A-Listers.” Honestly, I have nothing against Chow or Shoemaker (however it’s spelled) because anyone who can work 10 minutes a day, write some shit about their favorite food, and pull in 40 g’s a month doing that, is doing something right. It’s just annoying to see all this BS and people actually believing it.

Anyway I’d like to end on a totally unrelated note: it doesn’t matter how saturated a niche is, you can still get into it and make money with it. You just have to be creative and come up with new marketing streams that haven’t been played out yet. or just have a shitload of money and go for volume, with lower profits. But it can be done, I see it done all the time.

Study Babes Update: Traffic Sources and Revenue Sources

Published by SL on Nov 21, 2008 under Blogging, Marketing

Right after releasing Study Babes I told ya’ll I’d make a followup post detailing marketing methods and which were the most effective. Here we are :D

Traffic Sources
Right now the site is pulling 500-600 visits a day which is pretty nice seeing as it’s only a month old. Most people spend an average of 4 minutes on the site, which is good because it means they’re not just going to it and closing it down. 87% of the traffic comes from referring sites, 11% is direct, and 2% from search engines (since the site is so new it’ll take a while for the search traffic to pick up, so it’s not a concern).

Almost all of my referring sites are other blogs I’ve left comments on. I didn’t target similar sites, but rather make money sites, gadget sites, technology sites, etc. where I knew there’d be a bunch of horny guys looking for hot girls (compared to advertising on similar sites where guys are less horny because they’re already looking at hot girls). I also did some Myspace promotion but it was pretty much useless, as out of a couple thousand friends added it only sent 40 visitors, and all my accounts got deleted within the first week.

The main thing I’m working on now is finding more blogs to comment on and possibly outsourcing that. I’d also like to focus on keywords and try to rank for “college girls”.

Revenue Sources
Not too much revenue coming in yet since the site is still quite small but at least it’s making some money. The main earners are the in-post text ads, followed by the 300×250 image ad in the right sidebar. CTR is pretty shitty though and I’m trying to figure out how to better optimize these ads, especially the in-post ones. ANY IDEAS? LEAVE COMMENTS WITH YOUR IDEAS!

I have a banner rotator for Singlesnet as well as an in-post ad for Singlesnet. 0 conversions. I’m honestly starting to think Neverblue is shaving the shit out of everything though because 0 just seems ridiculous. Adult Friendfinder is also pretty useless because they send users to a landing page where they can register for free, but they only pay you when those free members decide to upgrade to paid memberships, so I haven’t made shit through them either. I’m thinking about ripping those ads and replacing them with more CPC ads but the network I’m using (it’s basically the same as Adsense but for adult/mature sites - Adsense seemed to think pictures of girls in bikinis counted as “adult content”) doesn’t have a very good variety of banner sizes.

I’m also planning on selling paid advertising, probably once it hits 1000 visitors a day.

Also planned is a contest for a big ticket item, maybe a TV or a Macbook or something. If you have any ideas for prizes, give em to me! This should help increase traffic and subscribers substantially.

That’s about it, if you have any questions or ideas/feedback/suggestions let me know.

The BS Blogger of the Year Awards

Published by SL on Nov 16, 2008 under Blogging

There are a lot of, for lack of a better word, bullshit blogs out there that carry the “make money online” tagline but really don’t tell you shit. The sad thing is these bullshitters are usually the ones with the most traffic because they bullshit so much and on such a ridiculous scale that people think they know what they’re talking about. Let’s take, for example, Shoemoney and his $150,000 Adsense check (or however much it was). Newbies find his site, they see it, they say “whoa this dude must know what he’s talking about,” and they become addicted to his site. Shoe is definitely on the bullshit list, although I’ve actually seen a couple useful posts on there lately, maybe he wanted to try it out and see if he’d make even more money. I’ve put together a little list of some of the most popular blogs as well as their bullshit ratings, 10 means absolute bullshit and 0 means no bullshit. Anything under a 5 is pretty decent and you should check it out:

  • Shoemoney: His site is mostly about things he finds interesting, such as UFC, his own life, t-shirts he likes, and random shit that has nothing to do with making money. Let me be clear, this dude fucking BANKS but one thing he doesn’t do is tell people how he does it. Anyone who can pull 40 g’s a month with a silly blog like that must know at least SOME stuff, but if you’re looking for actual make money tips on his site, be prepared to do some digging.
Bullshit rating: 8 | View site
  • John Chow: Honestly I don’t think I’ve seen a single useful post on his site. It’s almost laughable that TAC called him the “blackhat of blackhats” seeing as the only “blackhat” thing he does is link building, which is already done so much by so many people that I actually made a post about it awhile back titled “Whitehat Link Building.” If you like reading random stories about his life, go for it, he travels a lot and goes to a lot of fancy restaurants so there is some interesting stuff there, but in terms of actually making money, not really.
Bullshit rating: 8 | View site
  • Zac Johnson: This one is a little mixed. Zac actually does know what he’s talking about, he actually does bank off affiliate marketing, he does bank off MFA sites, and he does bank off a blog that he updates like once a week. At first glance, I would’ve thrown him in with the rest of the bullshitters but he actually does make some good posts quite often, and if you ask him questions it sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. Not too bad.
Bullshit rating: 5 | View site
  • Nicky Cakes: One of my favorite blogs. It’s actually 1 of 3 blogs I have on my Bookmarks Toolbar on my “travel laptop,” so yeah Cakes is doing a good job. Sometimes he does post bullshit about his life and shit he’s doing but almost everything on there is actual useful content. His readers are also less naive which makes for a better experience, you don’t see many “great post nicky!” comments. Highly recommended.
Bullshit rating: 2 | View site
  • Uber Affiliate: This is by far the most ridiculous site I’ve ever seen. I read it when he first started it but after a few weeks he actually ran out of stuff to post and since then everything has been total bullshit. If you’re brand new to affiliate marketing, it might help you out, but if you’ve been at it for more than a month or so you won’t find anything useful here. He also tried to start a “camp” where you could pay him something like 5 g’s for a consultation, but while in this “camp” the first campaign he recommended to his users actually made everyone LOSE money.
Bullshit rating: 9 | View site
  • Moms Cash Blog: I like this site because it’s not your typical “make money online” stuff. It’s also more general and open to a wider audience, which was a smart move as I’m willing to bet she got readers faster than a typical mmo blog would. Great site, the only reason it gets 2 points is because some of the stuff is a little beginner for me and I know most of my readers have a decent amount of experience too. *cough* milf *cough*
Bullshit rating: 2 | View site
  • Jonathan Volk: I had heard about this dude before but never really paid attention to him, but I recently saw a comment he left on someone else’s blog that made me laugh. It was something along the lines of “that’s a great tip, if I hadn’t started implementing it I never would have hit the $250,000 a month mark.” LOL. I don’t know anything about this guy but I do know that if I were making 250 stacks a month I wouldn’t be running a blog that probably nets 1 at the most. Something about this just screams bullshit.
Bullshit rating: 7 | View site
  • Slightly Shady SEO: Great site, don’t think I’ve ever seen any bullshit on it and it also strays into the sacred realm of the blackhat. Check it out.
Bullshit rating: 1 | View site
  • Web Traffic ROI: Pretty new site but you can tell this dude is actually picking up pretty fast. He did a little interview with Chow which was pretty useless but I’ve looked through a lot of his posts and there’s some good stuff there. I’d recommend checking it out, right now I’m giving it a 4 but I’m betting in a few months it’ll be down to a 2.
Bullshit rating: 4 | View site
  • Gary Conn: Heard about this dude before and checked out his site, didn’t find anything useful so never went back to it. He also recently made a post about “give me your URL and I’ll tell you how to improve your ad placement” and lots of noobs were asking him for advice. I decided to throw Study Babes in there for the hell of it to see if he could actually give me anything useful, and of course he couldn’t. He even added that he thought my site content was “terrible” :D . Seriously Gary, if you don’t know how to help, just say you don’t know. Acting like you don’t like looking at hot girls just adds another point to your bullshit score.
Bullshit rating: 9 | View site
  • Shanker Bakshi: This really doesn’t even deserve a link but I came across it yesterday and had to throw it in here. Just look at his logo (and if you haven’t been to Chow’s site in a couple months, look at his logo too), and there’s all the proof you need.
Bullshit rating: 10 | View site | Winner of the bullshit blogger of the year trophy! Congrats!

Now it’s your turn. Tell me how you’d rate this site, and let me know why you gave it that rating, and what you’d like me to do to improve. Thanks!

The Stak Loaded Babe

Published by SL on Oct 28, 2008 under Affiliate marketing, Blogging, Random

When I first started pushing Stak Loaded I made this avatar with a picture of a really hot girl and no text aside from an “SL” in the corner. I posted a shitload of comments on other people’s blogs and added a bunch of people on My Blog Log which were huuuuuge traffic sources, because people would see the avatar, say “oh shit a hot girl” and then visit the site. If you’ve ever wondered who she is, look no further! Look here for more!

/shameless self promotion for new site

Study Babes is finished and I’ve started posting to it and promoting it. I said I’d let ya’ll in on how I’m marketing it and I definitely will - look forward to a detailed “blueprint” of all marketing streams and traffic sources as well as stats showing how well each worked. For now, I’ll just sum up my plans to give you a rough idea:

  • Myspace: I created a profile and rather than posing as a hot girl, I made it a “Study Babes” profile that tells people what the site is, why they should visit it, and a link to it. I think this will be more effective than posing because so many webcam sites have already done the shit that people can tell fake profiles when they see them and there’s really no point. Friendblaster Pro, add a shitload of friends, that’s it. I’m also looking at creating more profiles that are exactly the same so I can add more people every day (Myspace limits how many people you can add in a 24 hour period and if you go over they flag you for spamming or lock your account).
  • Blog Log: I made a My Blog Log account (add me here if you want) and a community (join it here) and just added a bunch of people and joined a bunch of communities so people would see me in them and look at my profile. This is where having an attractive (”attractive” meaning “hot girl in a bikini”) avatar comes in handy.
  • Blog Comments: I haven’t done this yet but I want to find at least 10 blogs with decent to high traffic that are either (a) related to hot girls, or (b) have a male audience that would find Study Babes interesting (like a gaming blog, dating advice blog, etc). If you know any, LET ME KNOW! thanks!
  • Contest: Everyone loves contests, and I’m already planning on having one really soon. Contests are one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site. I might give away a laptop or an iPod or something, or maybe a date with a hot girl (lol), not sure yet. Let me know what ya’ll want and I’ll throw it in the hat!

That about sums up what I have planned so far. You’ll also notice the Adult Friend Finder ads, which if you haven’t tried their affiliate program and you have some experience with dating offers, you’ll definitely want to do. They have some really good options and payouts. and if anyone here wants to sign up and net me some dough, go ahead
