287

We all know pollution and toxins are bad for you. But THE ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP recently tested 10 Americans for 400 chemicals and traces of 287 of them showed up in their blood. This study, probably the deepest analysis of this issue, also discusses the most vulnerable demographic on the planet...newborns.

Please take a moment to watch the below presentation. It is both educational and entertaining.

reconstructed clothing

Photobucket Redewin, a new online eco-store that sells unique vintage and reconstructed clothing, just launched last week. It offers eco-conscious consumers a new option in shopping for stylish, one of a kind clothes, and it’s great destination for choosing green clothing.

All of the items on Redewin are created from used garments—they take button-ups, t-shirts, dresses, doilies, sweaters, jeans, etc, and stitch them together to create innovative, intriguing new fashion blends. The clothes are creative and singular—and they elevate the term ‘recycled clothing’ to new fashionable heights. The site features a wide range of items—from men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing lines to re-stitched pillows, everything gets the chic, reconstructed treatment at Redewin. And shopping online is a lot easier than making your own recycled clothing.

eco mama august giveaway

Original Good Looking trashy has never been so trendy! This month Eco Mama is giving away a "This World is Garbage" sling bag made in New Delhi, India from recycled plastic bags. These slings, sold by a company called ORIGINAL GOOD, are a result of a unique non-toxic process that melts the bags together to create a durable material. Not only do they provide a sustainable living for the poor women behind them but they also do more than their fair share for the environment.

Original Good provides shoppers with a unique global shopping experience at their doorstep. The company offers access to beautiful, stylish and uniquely handcrafted gifts and accessories from artisan communities in over 30 developing countries across the world all under the Fair Trade umbrella. The company's line includes bags, books and stationery, housewares, jewelry, scarves and shawls, yoga accessories, and small gifts. World of Good Inc. donates 10% of its profits to World of Good Inc.: Development Organization, a 501(c)3 non-profit that is focused on building strategies to substantially improve socio-economic conditions for millions of artisans and their families. The organization also works to educate US consumers and corporations about the benefits of engaging in ethical trade practices to bridge the gap between the global north and south.

Enter to win by leaving a comment on this post or subscribing to receive Eco Mama updates via email. Drawing will be on August 30th. Winner will be selected using Random.org. Email subscribers will be automatically entered into each month's giveaways.

Good luck!
