I have made it through my first week living on my own! I am quite proud of myself. I’ve never done this before. I am still slowing getting the things I need for the apartment. A co-worker gave me two lamps yesterday which I really needed since I had none. I still need a vaccuum, a microwave, a scale and the washer & dryer. I am sure I will find more things I need as I go along, but these are the things I want first. I had been just buying whatever I wanted to eat, but this weekend I am going to buy only good stuff. No more chips and dip, no more chocolate, nothing doing. *sigh* But this cooking thing is going to be a challange for me.

But it is Friday! I pick up the younger daughter for the weekend. It will be her first time at the apartment. Tonight we will either do a marathon of the Pirates Trilogy or of Firefly. Then tomorrow we are going to go see Twilight and return those boots (finally) and maybe do a little shopping at the mall. It should be a fun weekend! Maybe I can find some firewood, too. If only enough for one fire. I can’t wait to get one going. {giggle}

Well, it looks like I have hit my first bad day since being on my own. I found out he is planning to spend Christmas with family and friends in Michigan. Now I know he didn’t want to spend Christmas but why couldn’t he want to spend it with me? I can’t really blame him for it really. It still hurt like hell. I just want to crawl under a rock and hide.

The sound of those jobs in Las Vegas gets better and better.

Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody
Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody
55 years old from Fort Belvoir, Virginia
U.S. Army

Call it breaking the brass ceiling. Ann E. Dunwoody, after 33 years in the Army, ascended Friday to a peak never before reached by a woman in the U.S. military: four-star general.

At an emotional promotion ceremony, Dunwoody looked back on her years in uniform, said it was a credit to the Army—and a great surprise to her—that she would make history in a male-dominated military.

“Thirty-three years after I took the oath as a second lieutenant, I have to tell you this is not exactly how I envisioned my life unfolding,” she told a standing-room-only auditorium. “Even as a young kid, all I ever wanted to do was teach physical education and raise a family.

“It was clear to me that my Army experience was just going to be a two-year detour en route to my fitness profession,” she added. “So when asked, `Ann, did you ever think you were going to be a general officer, to say nothing about a four-star?’ I say, `Not in my wildest dreams.’

“There is no one more surprised than I—except, of course, my husband. You know what they say, `Behind every successful woman there is an astonished man.’”

You can read the rest of Gen. Dunwoody’s story here.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

I can’t believe it is nearly a month until Christmas! Where does the time go? It’s going to be a light gift year this time around. I am still working on making sure I can get by on my own right now. So I guess there will be no english saddles given away this year. I will probably just focus on the girls. It’s just not Christmas without kids, you know?

No offence intended by the title. It is a quote from one of my favourite movies, Constantine. Mmm, I luvs Keanu Reeves.

I am still doing okay. I feel okay. We are still talking. In fact he called me Sunday to help him set up MS Money and I am going over there Wednesday (I work at Bentos that night anyway so I’ll be in his part of town.) so he can change the oil in my car (which of course the change engine oil came on the day after I moved out…LOL) so I suppose we are still getting along fairly well.

Oh well, I’ll deal with it when Wednesday gets here. I need to remember to pick up those Nine West boots so I can take them back. The $200 would be nice about now.

SO! I have my checking account set, I have cable, internet and TiVo set, last night I got the litter box cleaned out and set up in the bathroom. Tonight’s adventure will be braving the laundry room. Luckily it is with in walking distance from my apartment so it shouldn’t be too bad. The room is locked and the residents all have keys. I’m glad it’s there, but I hope to be buying a washer and dryer before too long. Maybe after Christmas, or before if I find some on sale.

I think I have forgotten how to do my job! Sheesh! I was off for four days running around doing nothing but moving and now I am back to work and it took me two hours to get back into the swing of things. Still, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to work in vegas. Would it be fun all the time or like real work. Hm, who knows?

I have been trying to set up house keeping in the new place. It’s been kind of fun. Still, it’s hard to think of everything you need in a home until you reach for something. For example measuring cups. Who knew you could actually BUY measuring cups. I thought they just magically appeared in the kitchen. I also had to buy a trash can, mop, broom, and cleaning supplies. It was kind of odd. But hey, at least I am getting settled. Besides I have the most important things set up, cable and internet! :)
