Anyone interested in a writing project?

Would anyone be interested in an Entrecard members writing project? You know the kind of thing, a theme is set and participants write a post on their blog about that topic, then leave a message to say that it is up. They can be a lot of fun and a good way to gain new readers.

If you would like to take part, leave a reply and also some suggestions for a theme. I was thinking Christmas, but that's not terribly imaginative, if you have a better idea do share it.

You mean like a carnival? I'd really be interested.

Why not start by talking about EC stats? I don't know if I could fit a Christmas theme into my blog. I can try though.

Tell me more.

I have a blog that is almost like an ongoing carnival. There is no set theme but I match up all the submissions that are similar and put them into categories.

I think it'd work best if it was something that meant everyone learns something about everyone else - ie, nothing too trite, but something you can take seriously or humorously and bend slightly to fit in with your audience.

The fact is that blogs are different from regular media - your readers (and us!) would like to see a glimpse of the person behind the curtain sometimes, so something about you works on almost any blog.

The key is to find a topic which will result in interesting stories from everyone, on or around the topic.

Great stuff - I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested.

I agree with Phirate, it would be good if we could choose a topic would fit all blogs, but which is something we can personalise - it's true, readers do like to read about the real person behind the blog. I sometimes worry about writing too much about myself, but readers do respond well to that kind of information.

Yikes, I suggested this and now I'm stuck trying think of a theme. I wondered about 'community' not necessarily online communities, we are all part of various others in the 3D world, so it could be your home town, or how becoming a parent affected your life, or your school days.

Or 'a day in the life of...' for which we could write about how we spend our time when not blogging.

Any other ideas?

Great idea Kate. It's nice that so many of you are interesting in a writing project! I think community is a good one, people can write about their neighbourhod, what community means to them, how to set up an online community, charitable community projects, etc, etc, etc, depending on what type of blog they have.

I vote for "A day in the life of..", it's simple, and everyone will have something to day, and it'll be relevant to everyones readers as well.

Count me in. I'm trying to get people to challenge me with a topic on my blog but haven't had much success as yet. This sounds like a great idea.

Should we have a condition that all participants must list every other participant, or will we have a central hub (like this topic in the forum) which lists participants?

Getting Gruntled

I like the ideas here by Bebo and Phirate.

You could combine them, having everyone write about their holiday traditions, ones you still do every year, ones you didn't carry on, maybe ones having to do with helping others/charity/green living.

Another good one would be to have everyone write a comparison of "your ideas of the world now versus you at age five".

Sam Freedom's Internet Marketing Controversy Blog

I've got an awesome topic, "Sam Freedom is..." and then I'll write an article with a reply to each of you. No matter what you write, I can roll with it.

Hmmm, at first I was just joking but now I think I might do this. ;-)

Hi Everyone, I'm sorry it has taken me this long to get back - my only excuse is that I'm racing around like a maniac getting ready for Christmas so I my time online has been limited.

I noticed the 'A Day in the Life' theme seemed to be popular, so shall we go with that? I rather liked 'Community', but never mind (sob). Keeping the holiday season in mind, I know a lot of people are going to be busy, so what about keeping it open until the end of the month so that everyone who wants to take part will have the chance?

I was thinking we could post the links here, but if anyone wants to post them on their blog too, that would be great.

So, the rules (seem to be)

  1. Write a post on the subject of 'A Day in the Life' before 1st Jan.
  2. Leave a message here including the url of your post.

Is that ok? Anything to add, or amend?
