I have come across many blogs that have this and find it so tacky. My main issue is that twice now I have almost clicked it on since one was on top of the entrecard and another directly below it.
What is up with all the requests to donate?

I think Paypal has enough money.

It's super tacky, it's also how I've made a couple hundred dollars in the last two months, so tacky-schmacky.

Autism, a lot of pro-bloggers make their living through ads and tips/donations from readers. Since it's how they pay the bills, you cant really expect them to hide the link at the bottom. Can you?
Stan, Paypal doesn't allow porn sites to use their services. Trust me, I know.

Annoying? Deal with it. Though my paypal donate button is hidden on a back page, I've had over $100 sent my way through it. Try it before you knock it.
Now on to your blog. I love your blog topic, hate your blog comments. That's twice now I've tried to comment and seen that stupid google/blogger ID password thing. I am not signing up for something just to comment. Allow anonymous commenting. Simply force people to leave an email address. You really have no clue how many commenters have been turned away by you not taking the time to check off a single setting on your control panel.

I've gotten quite a bit through donations. My biggest payer is a tutorial I wrote for a service. I wrote that over two years ago and I still get donations coming through.

I turned off the code thing for the comments and was not aware of the sign in blogger since I have only been doing this for about a month. Will look into changing that now. Thanks for the tip.
I cannot leave comments at the red box captcha thing since it takes two tries and I cannot see if it went thru.
I have nothing against the paypal, just surprised and the button being so close to the drop one left me being very cautious at those sites.
Thanks for the replies, interesting thread.

Clicking on the paypal button brings to you the paypal site, where you have to log into a secure server. There is nothing accidental about any donations people receive. It's only deceptive if they have a pay-per-click popup that covers the EC box. Some sites do this intentionally, but it's been a while since I have seen one. You have to be pretty low on the food chain to think the .40 a day you earn from this trick makes you an elite marketer.

$100? Wow! I should try that too! Who knows, someone out there might donate some monies! Thanking you (future donor) in advance. ;)

For one of my blogs, I've spent over $50 distributing cards and self-addressed/stamped envelopes to gather information for it. I'll likely spend another $200 before people go to the effort to send their own postcards. If I get donations from either of my blogs, those donations likely won't add up to whatever I'll spend, but they'll ease the pain.
Not to mention, I'll gladly tip other bloggers a buck every now and then. It's my way of saying, "I like this site. I know how hard it is to write original posts on a regular basis. Thanks for going through the effort to keep it up." Some people think it's tacky, but some think a tip jar in a coffee shop is tacky.

I like the "tip" jar in the local bean brewer shoppe. Every now and then I don't have enough to cover my "Vente, no foam, extra hot, tripple shot, breve, white-mocha, latte. With a shot of vanilla".
