Hey, I'm new, so apologies if this has been discussed before.
I've been noticing something really strange. Every time I start a round of dropping cards via the Entrecard "campaign" area, I get like five sites in, and my DSL turns off. I don't mean the Entrecard site is down, but my computer literally loses its connection to the internet and I have to go reset my modem.
I have Qwest DSL. I've repro'd this dozens of times now. The DSL line is 100% stable when I'm not dropping Entrecards. It's even stable across the Entrecard site.
I've worked in online services for a long time, and I've never seen a specific web site interfere with net access. Any theories on what's happening here? Bug in Entrecards drop code? Qwest throttling Entrecard traffic?

Very strange. This is definitely the first report we've ever received off that.
Perhaps Adbrite and Qwest share some board members in common?
No but in all seriousness that is very strange. Perhaps it is browser settings? Can you try from another computer in-house?

Weird
all I can think of is maybe the browser settings also Either try a diff computer or try using a different browser.

Okay, I've narrowed the repro. This happens on both Firefox 2.0.0.12 and IE7 (on Vista). I've repro'd on three boxes.
The specific situation is as follows:
1. Open up two blogs simultaneously (in browser tabs or separate browser windows)
2. Drop a card from one blog
3. While that request is still churning, go over to the other blog and drop the other blog's card.
RESULT: DSL freaks out completely and internet goes bye-bye.
Since I've figured this out, I can now serialize my requests and work around the issue. Still, it hampers productivity, especially since the drops are so slow... :)
Given the specificity of the scenario, it seems likely there's something funky happening on Entrecard's side in the case of multiple drop requests from a single IP.

Zedomax - Technology and Gadgets
what kinda router are you using?
(or are u even using one?)
My recommend is get a Linksys router (V6 or older, get one off ebay) then install dd-wrt firmware.
My Cable went from 6Mbps to 20Mbps with the firmware.

I don't know much about internet connections, but...
maybe it's your provider detecting multiple connections to/from the same site, and then it freaks out because they think that you're using P2P or torrent something?

My best guess would be that it's your DSL modem that can't handle multiple requests properly. I know this sounds like I'm just blaming you but seriously I'm not, I just can't possibly see any way that we could cause that particular issue.
have you ever experienced similar effects before?

I know it sounds crazy. Even I think it sounds crazy! :)
>have you ever experienced similar effects before?
I haven't. And I spend 8-12 hours a day online for work. I simul-surf (using multiple browser tabs and windows) constantly. I always have 4-5 connections going simultaneously, often to the same website. And I have no problems.
::shrugs:
Oh well. Weird. Don't worry, I'm not expecting a fix or anything. But at least now there's a record in case other people run into it...
Thanks to everybody for your kind concern and suggestions. It's nice as a newbie to see such an engaged community here on day 1.

It looks like your ISP filters some techics used in Entrecard. Phirate, when one click "drop card" one open a html page, with a new address (the cardholder) as a parameter. Some ISPs consider this as "trickery" and filter it. If the filter is poorly written, some modems crash.

I mean, when he does it simultanously the filter rule crashes.

I have been having the exact same problems as BraveLeaf described! I have been going crazy over it, and finally pinpointed the problem only occurs when I drop Entrecards. My DSL goes caput for a minute or two. We have a few other computers on my home network, and we all lose the Internet connection when I drop cards. I have Verizon DSL.
I have used my DSL for some seriously heavy activity. But nothing else replicates the issue-- it only occurs when I drop cards. It seems unique to EC.
Anyone have any fixes?

Here's a wrench to throw in the works... :(
I was just booted off my DSL for surfing the Entrecard forums! I wasn't even dropping cards!
What's going on?
