Firefox toolbar

The Entrecard toolbar - the EntreBar - is available for users of Firefox 3.

Go to the above link and click on the Download link. If you see a message that says the install was blocked, click Allow. Then click Install on the box that pops up. Restart Firefox to complete the installation.

Basic orientation

After logging into the toolbar with your Entrecard username and password, you'll see a variety of features. Working from left to right, here are the various options you'll see.

  1. Account switcher: The first drop down list will be accessible to users with multiple blogs on their account. Click on the drop down list and select another blog to switch to it. After a short delay, you'll be on the other account.
  2. Account information: The second drop down list displays the number of credits and drops on your account. It also provides several handy links to your account. Using this list you can get to the following pages: Dashboard, Messages, Your ads, Statistics, Linked blogs, Buy EC.
  3. Category/Sort options: The third and fourth lists allow you to choose which sites you'd like to find on Entrecard. The first of the two lists provides a way to browse your favorites, inbox, all sites, or just the sites in a specific category. The next list controls how the sites are sorted. For instance if you choose All / Most popular, you'll see the sites that are currently the most popular across the whole of Entrecard. If you choose Blogging Resources / Most popular, you'll see the same except that the search will only find sites in the Blogging Resources category.
  4. Arrow/Double arrow: The green arrow buttons will start a search. Use the lists mentioned above to determine what you want to find, then click the green arrow to go to the first site, or click the double arrow to open several sites at once. How many sites are opened depends on your preferences; we'll cover this in a moment.

Favorite

The heart icon can be used to add a site to your favorites, or remove it. If you visit a site that is already in your favorites, this icon will be shown in bright red. Clicking the button will remove the site from your favorites, and vice versa.

Site information

The name of the site you're visiting will be displayed in the next drop down list. Clicking on the site name will display some additional options: EC Profile, Send message, Write recommendation, Tip site, Report site.

Advertising

If you have sufficient credits and you do not already have an ad in the queue, the toolbar allows you to quickly place an ad on the site you're visiting. Look for the Advertise button:

Simply click the button to place an ad. Once you have done that, or if you already have an ad in the queue, you'll see this:

Help links

The ā€œEā€ button at the end of the toolbar provides a number of handy links: Logout, The Blog, Community Forum, Support Forum, Bugs Forum, Help.

The sidebar

To enable the sidebar, click on View, Sidebar, Entrecard. Now, when you click the arrow buttons, the sidebar will automatically display a list of the sites that you will be taken to. Starred sites are the ones you've dropped on; sites with a heart are in your favorites.

You can open a site from the sidebar by double-clicking it. Middle-click will open the site in a new tab. If you do this then use the arrow buttons again, the next sites to be opened will start from this point.

Preferences

Right-click in a blank area of the toolbar and select Preferences. You'll be able to change some of the options:

  • Tabs to open: This controls the number of sites that will open when you click the double arrow.
  • Login on startup: This will automatically sign you into the toolbar when starting Firefox.
  • Hide toolbar for non-EC sites: This removes the toolbar if you visit a site without an Entrecard widget.
  • Skip sites you've dropped on: This will exclude sites you've dropped on from all searches you run via the toolbar.
  • Log to console: For debugging purposes only, use this if we have asked you to turn it on for testing purposes.
