Entrecard Contest Winners

Written on October 14th, 2008 by Rose

Thanks to everyone who entered our two contests, traffic quality and “outage giveaway bash.” For those of you that didn’t enter you missed out on the possibility of winning a ton of entrecard credits…don’t miss out next time. Advertising is a key to getting traffic to your blog and with the amount of ec’s given out you could have created a great advertising campaign or contest campaign!

Everyone wrote awesome posts and deserves a round of applause for taking the time to write quality posts for each of these contests. The traffic quality posts had some great points for everyone. The posts written for the Outage contest were thoughtful and highlight blogs that many of us would enjoy reading, if we aren’t already!

How were these chosen?

2
waterrose Says:

The Traffic Quality winners entered by writing a post about the value of entrecard, those names were put into

http://www.random.org/lists/

So they were randomly chosen.

The Outage Giveaway winners entered by writing a post that reviewed another blog of their choice. The criteria for winning that contest was as follows:

“Entries will be judged on creativity, quality of review, quality of constructive feedback, with a little of the overall quality of the blog entering factoring in. Winners will be awarded Tuesday so don’t wait!”

Mike Golch Says:

Congrats to the winners.

Now why in the hell is the Entrecard server down again,What is the excuse for the outage this time???????

Robyn Says:

Hello just wondering if my entry was entered into the random draw for the Quality Traffic contest?

With 27 comments it cant have been that bad surely?

:)

5
Robyn Says:

Sorry should have added this perhaps :

Hello here’s my entry:

impNERD Says:

Robyn, the traffic quality contest was completely random. It didn’t matter how popular the post was or how many comments it received.

7
Sam Freedom Says:

Plums for sale! I’ve got plums for sale! Only 1500 EC each! Plums for sale!

8
StanHayes Says:

It makes no sense to make one random and one not.

9
Robyn Says:

Imp I appreciate that – my point is that it was not entered

10
Robyn Says:

Agree with Stan actually, but since it was random surely all the entries should have been entered and received at least the minimum prize ( apparently 20 from memory?)

11
Robyn Says:

Is there a way to edit your posts?

Sorry I know I am sounding sour right now and I am actually not after all it’s just a competition but I kind of see posting this as not being a doormat:

“The BEST entry will receive a 10,000 credit prize, the runner up will receive a 5,000 prize, and 20 third place finalists will be awarded 1500 credits each.”

Food for thought.

Cheers,

12
waterrose Says:

Ok, you guys can throw the eggs at me. I did this late last night and missed the last line of winners in the post and credit transfer.

Robyn the oversight is being remedied.

13
StanHayes Says:

@Robyn — You’re not sounding sour. You’re making sense.

14
StanHayes Says:

Comment went in before Rose’s.

So you picked “Entries will be judged on creativity, quality of review, quality of constructive feedback, with a little of the overall quality of the blog entering factoring in….” Admittedly bleary eyed?

I got an idea. Choose randomly for every contest.

15
waterrose Says:

Stan,

I’m not sure I understand your point, but you do have a right to make it. Contests are run many different ways and winners are chosen by a variety of methods. Choosing randomly gives everyone an equal chance. Holding a contest with criteria adds a different twist to the contest and many people like that challenge as well.

16
StanHayes Says:

You did this late without fully reading the rules, but you fully read all of the posts to pick a winner? Maybe I’m just confused.

17
Rose Says:

hmmm…I did read all of the rules and all of the posts. If you will note my post before I stated that …”I did this late last night and missed the last line of winners in the post and credit transfer…”

Which means that Robyn was part of the winner selection, but when I copied and pasted the information, and since she was the last person in the selection, I missed that particular line. I didn’t say that I did this without fully reading the rules. I will admit it when I make a mistake and how that mistake was made. Ok?

18
StanHayes Says:

Ok, no worries… I wasn’t even entered. Just trying to help Robyn find some justice.

19
Robyn Says:

Rose,

I just read your message and accept your apology – believe me my intention is not to crucify someone who is doing something for the entrecard community on a volunteer basis. It really is not.

It just seems as though the comp had not been judged in the timeframe specified …and was therefore rushed in the end.

“The BEST entry will receive a 10,000 credit prize, the runner up will receive a 5,000 prize, and 20 third place finalists will be awarded 1500 credits each.” (This does imply judging as opposed to a random draw)

So I am assuming that the BEST entry became random as time became a factor…

“choosing randomly gives everyone an equal chance”

My point here is that it seems just as likely that my entry was not submitted to the random draw as not added to the post. Is that a fair comment?

I am not looking to gain anything here except to make a point (I was only ever intending to use any “won” credits for giveaways myself) but I tend to call a spade a spade and I think that a lack of time has played a big role in the way these competitions have been handled.

Regards,
Robyn

Eric Says:

“Entries will be judged on creativity, quality of review, quality of constructive feedback, with a little of the overall quality of the blog entering factoring in….”

Ha – just like the quality of EntreCard traffic! Promised to be quality, but ultimately random.

21
Ferox Says:

Should I have recieved credits for this yet?

I was kind of disapointed that it was chosen at random too, earning something based on merit not a lucky draw.

22
Maritzia Says:

*squeals* Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I worked hard on that review, which is why I was surprised to be the first one who posted.

Thanks for giving us a contest where we could help someone else out, too. I’d like to see more contests like that.

23
kikamz Says:

I didn’t expect to win the 5000 ec for writing the post on Traffic Quality because I thought that the BEST post will be chosen. I never thought that it will be selected at random. Of course, I am not happy for the prize… I can advertise as much as I want with that much credit!

But as Robyn has reiterated, “The BEST entry will receive a 10,000 credit prize, the runner up will receive a 5,000 prize, and 20 third place finalists will be awarded 1500 credits each.”

@ Rose, thanks for all your efforts. You must have stayed up late just to finish reading all of the entries for the two contests. I can just imagine how many entries you read and deciding on which one is the best post must be really difficult.

Thanks again Entrecard! Cheers to everyone! :D

fragileheart Says:

I don’t understand why one can’t be random and one can’t be more subjective.

The contest where the winners were chosen at random was for an easy task: simply write a post about the topic and you’re entered. Naturally there will be more entries and to limit the number of winners and to be fair – the winners are chosen at random.

The contest where the winners were chosen based on a more subjective matter was more difficult and the criteria was clearly stated. Naturally less entries would be submitted and therefore no real need to choose the winners at random. Besides which it was always a contest of who writes the better post from the start.

Saying that all contests should only be conducted one way is like saying that there’s only one way to eat an apple. It is just not true.

25
fragileheart Says:

p.s congratulations to all the winners and YAY my comment wasn’t eaten!

Thanks for the contest.

29
Richard McLaughin Says:

Congratulation to winners, be it random or not.
Congratulation to those that don’t care if it is random or not!

30
Laura Says:

I prefer a contest based on merit rather than a random draw too. It was nice to have a reason to visit the blog posting and the blog reviewed. I haven’t gotten to all of them yet but I will.

I still think I should have won. No one else drew a picture in tribute to their favourite. :P

31
Richard McLaughlin Says:

@Laura,

you bring up an idea that I thought about. I posted a comment asking if EC should consider using a blog carnival. If you don’t know a blog carnival it is when you post links to blog posts that you like with a brief note on the subject and why you like it (or a quote from the post).

Maybe a way to do something on merit is a contest where we each make our own carnival and push it through our local networks and social media. Then use something like polldaddy to have other EC’ers vote on the post that is the best.

If 5 people would host a carnival of their favorite sites and people actually voted we could have a fair list of people’s choice.

32
Robyn Says:

“I was kind of disapointed that it was chosen at random too, earning something based on merit not a lucky draw.”

Ferox

For what it’s worth I think the random got it right.

Congratulations all :)

33
Greener Pastures Says:

I’m honored that you chose my story as worthy of the 20,000 EC prize. What a compliment. There’s so many great blogs on EC, I’m sure there was some good competition.
I’m having a ball with the credits. I never purchase credits, so it’s quite a treat. I splurged a little, but am trying to be smart about how I use them. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear. I feel like a kid in a candy store.

Best,
Lisa

34
Ferox Says:

Aw, thanks Robyn. Now I have a whole bunch of credits to spend on something.

35
bonoriau Says:

CONGRATS to all the winner. This contest is really giving me opportunity to give special review to my favorite blogger who already contribute so much to my blog. Win or lose doesn’t matter. Thank you!!!

36
Leisa Watkins Says:

Congratulations to the winners.

Like Robyn my entry isn’t listed either. I actually posted it twice when the first entry didn’t show up. It looks like it perhaps went into moderation and was never approved in time for the contest.

I really wanted the blog I reviewed to get some additional exposure because they deserve it.
