Entrecard Seeking Contest Correspondant
Written on October 1st, 2008 by Graham
Volunteer Job opening at Entrecard: Contest Correspondant
Description: As the contest correspondant, your goal is to work with the mod team and administration to facilitate and promote contests in the EC community. Many Entrecarders want to hold big contests, and because of the recent imposition of credit transfer caps, we need to create a position of someone who can make sure contests continue running, get even bigger than they’ve been in the past, and utilize the Entrecard blog to gain exposure.
You’re job will be to receive all email of Entrecarders who want to hold contests. You will need to get a “security clearance” on contest holders from an Entrecard mod who will inspect the user hoping to hold the contest and make sure they are legit. You will blog on the EC blog about every contest. You will offer helpful ideas about how to make a contest bigger and gain more exposure. You will coordinate with me to get dashboard buzz about the contests. You coordinate firm dates for the payouts of the contests, at which time we can give elevated status to the member paying people out. Or perhaps all the credits for the contest will go through you.
You: Are an active member of the community. Have great organizational skills. Want to help make Entrecard a better place and take contests to the next level. Have never sold credits.
Our Mission: To take contests to the next level, to get them happening more frequently than before, bigger than before, with more participation from everyone than ever before.
Apply in the comments below, or by emailing me graham@entrecard.com

Good idea, but why is it important to have never sold credits?
October 1st, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I guess it doesn’t matter, but we want to make sure their interests are strictly aligned with the good of the blogging community and not with profits.
October 1st, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I never sold credits…but I guess I can’t do it…I hope somebody will be interested soon…good luck!!
October 1st, 2008 at 2:46 pm
This is a great idea, I wish I could volunteer, but I am so busy.
October 1st, 2008 at 4:58 pm
pst…I’ll do it…I’m not busy.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:00 pm
are you serious Evan? I mean, that would be great because you’re already a mod and obviously trusted, but do you want to take on all this responsibility and have the time to keep up with it? Our entire contest eco system is going to depend on this person.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Yeah..it was my idea in the mod forums…
I already am the one cleaning the Promo/Market forums up.Plus I get involved in a lot of contests.
Getting a lil somin’ somin’ would be nice though. JK.
Yes I can tack that on to my responsibilities.

[...] only that but now they are looking to hire a Content Correspondant, came up with a serious update to their business model and also announced a Partnership with OIO [...]

If Evan needs help with it, I’m definitely up for it….just let me know.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:25 pm
hi! i’m new with entrecard, but i’d like to be a correspondent if you ”’ allow me.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Hi! I love Entrecard and use it every day. But I would never be this thing you’re looking for. And it’s not because I’m too old. It’s because I hate people. That’s why I blog. If I liked the idiots out there I’d get up, go out, and talk to ‘em.
No, seriously, I hope you find someone terrific for the spot. Contests are a lot of fun, even if you don’t win, and are good for the EC community.
Good Luck

I wish I could be able to join or apply but I am too busy but I will make a contest soon.
October 1st, 2008 at 9:34 pm
It seems too good, entrecard will stay on and on and many will imitate ENTRECARD.
October 1st, 2008 at 9:40 pm
So did Ec get any contest correspondent ??
October 1st, 2008 at 11:53 pm
As one of the previous commenters implied, we may need more than one volunteer for this, as there are many blogs in the Entrecard network. With contests being fairly popular recently, this indicates that there will be many contests also, which means a potentially heavy workload for a single person who presumably will not receive compensation for the time and effort expended.
Meanwhile, I have detected an English usage error at the beginning of the second paragraph. In the text “You’re job will be to receive…”, the word you’re should be changed to your. It would not make sense to say “you are job.”
Also, in the title and first sentence of the post:
correspondant = correspondent

Hi,
I am also interested in it but not understanding why it is necessary to not selling the credit? Now, what i have to do?
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:41 am
I vote for Evan!
There a lot of people who will help him too I bet so he can delegate a bit.
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:44 am
Id like to be a correspondent, I like contest, it would be fun if I get to be the first one know about entrecard contest, never sold credits too..
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:18 am
I hold a blog that keeps in track of different contests. I might be up for it, but I don’t have any idea about the thing, “You will offer helpful ideas about how to make a contest bigger and gain more exposure.”
Still, I vote for Evan. He knows and takes up responsibility. I mean, that’s why he’s considered to be a mod in the first place. But if you do need any help I’m just an email away.

I don’t need the job but I wanted to show you how I have your back.
The bloggers were on there talking smack needless to say he talked alot of smack about you and entrecard and left my comment hanging.

Hey what’s up.
I’d like to point out that I have received thousands of hits from entrecard and it never cost me a penny.Second I think it’s sad and every hater should be ashamed of themselves.Grahams a great dude and he kept silent as he spent his money for us.I would of monetized it from day one and maybe had a membership fee from the get go.
Sadly many bloggers don’t appreciate a damn thing.
They want clicks and traffic and don’t do anything for anyone else but themselves. You can easily see what people are doing and not doing.
So the one way bloggers that don’t appreciate anything keep it up.I’ll wave as I pass you by.
Thanks

I don’t think Graham has appointed me, yet. But it’s good to know that you guys and gals support me like that. It almost brings a tear to my eye…

Well, it’s true I would like to get an *additional* team member in here if the right person applies for the job. I’m evaluating two potential applications and I’ll let you all know when a decision is made. Ideally, Evan would be the higher-up mod that the new contest correspondent would directly coordinate with.
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Hey! I think BadEvan is a great choice too, and can help with my database skills if they are needed or could be useful….

I’d really love to help, but I’m queued with work for the next 50 years or so.
I’d like to suggest a couple of ways to alleviate contest moderators workload:
1) An automated scrow script which could allow contest holder and their contributors to gather all the credits for that given contest, then once contest is over, the holder can issue an order to release that credits to each one of the winners.
That doesn’t have to be too complicated, the algorythm for the process could be something like this:
-Contest Holder Ask for permission (provides contest end date and number of credits to be awarded to winners)
-Moderator approves contest
-moderator opens contest scrow account (all credits will go into it)
-moderator sets contest end date (as per holder request)
-moderator issues holder key (this key to be used to release payments to winners)
-moderator send contest holder scrow account number
-contest holder send contributors scrow account number
-contest holder and contributors send their credits to scrow account
-once the planned number of credits to be awarded are into scrow account, the account locks automatically and contest is published in EC blog or forum (this post could be written in advance by contest holder to save mods workload and be published automatically once account is topped)
-once contest end date is due, scrow account unlocks automatically
-contest holder uploads winners EC account numbers and numbers of credits due to each one of them
-holder key must be used to release payments
-holder increase status
-everybody is happy
2) The second suggestion is indeed embedded into the first one. Instead of the moderators having to write a post on every contest, the contest holder him/herself could write it and moderators only had to approve it (or make some editing) and publish it.
If the publishing is automatically tied to the scrow account topping event (as suggested above), it could alleviate even more moderator’s workload
And that’s all. My two cents for you (if you were a client of mine that would cost you $500, LOL)
