Entrecard rolls out ALL AD FORMATS (partnership with OIO)

Written on September 30th, 2008 by Graham

Big news ladies and gents. We heard you loud and clear when you said “We want more things to spend our credits on!” So, without further ado, Entrecard Credits are now officially an accepted form of payment for:

  • blog reviews
  • text links (follow or nofollow -you choose)
  • inline ads   (just like this one ————————–>
  • RSS inserted ads
  • monthly 125×125 ads
  • and more! all thanks to OIO-publisher

OIO publisher is the kick ass fully-automated advertising system that allows you to sell all different types of ads on your blog with the click of a button while keeping literally all of your earnings. This initiative is going to depend on everyone’s participation to get really awesome advertising options out there available for the EC community.

A rockin’ partnership

Entrecard has partnered with OIO-Publisher for its new 2.0 release. Previously, OIO was just available for Wordpress, but now it’s available for blogger and all other platforms as well (though you do need some sort of hosting account to set it up -even if you’re using blogger). Under the partnership, Entrecard Credits are now an accepted form of payment for people using the OIO system.

OIO has quickly become an industry standard for blog advertising. This is because you keep 100% of the revenue from your ad sales, completely cutting out the middle man, and it is all fully automated and runs on autopilot. Entrecard currently uses OIO to sell the 125 ads on our blog, and it has literally made us thousands of dollars.

My favorite feature of OIO publisher is that it sends your advertisers automated reports of how well their ads are doing, include their cost-per-click, clickthrough rate, number of clicks, number of impressions, and more. Anyone who has bought an Ad on the Entrecard blog of course is familiar with the awesome reports that OIO sends automatically.

How it works: Get OIO!

If you want to sell every form of advertising under the sun, and ACCEPT EC AS PAYMENT (I can’t stress enough how huge this is), you have to buy OIO. Yes, it costs money. Instead of charging a % of the revenue you make from your advertising, OIO instead charges a one-time fee for you to purchase the plugin/service. The price is typically $47, but with our $17 coupon you only pay $30.

So the first step is to buy it immediately and use the coupon code “entrecard” to save almost 20 bucks. Go for it, because this is one of those things where the more Entrecarders get behind it and start using it, the more everyone will truly benefit. Plus you will rack up the ECs as you sell monthly ad spots, blog reviews, text links, and whatever else you want.

It pays for itself

At our new price of $6 per thousand credits, OIO will pay for itself with the first 5000 credit ad you sell, which will probably happen immediately. If you’re more concerned about the cash, it will pay for itself once you sell just two ads at $15 bucks a piece. So don’t delay -get it now!

Knock $17 off the price with coupon code “entrecard”

When you purchase OIO, don’t forget to enter the coupon code “entrecard” to save $17. This brings the price down from $47 to just $30. That is an awesome deal for this plugin.

Activating EC

Once you’ve purchased OIO, use this guide to help you set it up. It is a very quick and easy process, and support on both the OIO team and Entrecard team will help you if you encounter any problems.

Once it’s installed and running properly, have fun choosing what kind of advertising you’ll offer on your blog in exchange for Entrecard Credits. There are a lot of options, including text links, blog reviews, inline ads, a grid of 125×125, and more! So have fun and be creative! They all implement seemlessly and without any more effort than a click. The system is truly amazing.

Finding Entrecarders who have OIO and accept EC as payment

The OIO marketplace on the OIO website allows you to browse through all the Entrecarders that are using OIO and accepting EC. It will tell you what kind of advertising is available. This feature is being plugged into their marketplace within 48 hours, and we’ll update you on the blog when it’s live. Until then, feel free to use the Marketing Forum to post your ad spots available with OIO.

What this means for Entrecarders

We’re pushing this hard, because the more people who start using OIO publisher and accepting EC, the more options will be available for purchase with your Credits in the entire EC economy. In fact, if we had the money, we would just outright buy a copy for every Entrecard member. Imagine browsing thousands upon thousands of blogs, and buying text links, RSS ads, blog reviews, monthly 125 slots, and more all with your Credits! Imagine earning cash and EC from your blog on autopilot as people come to your site, buy ads, and get handled automatically with OIO!

Buy OIO today (with coupon code “entrecard”) and be a part of the revolution that is changing online advertising forever.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OIO publisher work for blogger?
Yes! The original version was just for Wordpress, but now its for blogger too, as well as every other blogging platform.

What does OIO do?
OIO allows you to sell 125ads,  blog reviews, text links, inline ads, and more all with a few clicks. It also allows you to accept Entrecard credits as a form of payment.

Aren’t the links above affiliate links?
Yes, Entrecard will earn revenue off each sale of OIO publisher referred from our site. Your purchase of OIO publisher helps support Entrecard in a time of need, and ensures we will be able to offer this service well into the future.

How do I find blogs that accept EC for their ad spots?
Within a day or two, OIO publisher is updating their marketplace to include a filter for Entrecard, which will list all the advertising available for EC.

What was that coupon code again?
The coupon code is “entrecard” and it will save you $17 off the price, bringing the total to just $30.

What about Google?
To date, Google has not taken any action against bloggers using OIO publisher, nor have they announced any intention of doing so.

What about a transfer tax?
OIO uses our payment API, and as such a transfer tax of 12.5% of the credits being paid applies automatically. Think of this similar to paypal’s fees. Even though you keep 100% of what you earn with OIO, paypal still charges you transfer fees, and so does Entrecard.

Do I need hosting to use OIO?
Yes, you need some sort of hosting account to upload the software to. It doesn’t even have to be the same hosting account your blog is using, but you do need a server to upload the software too.

My personal pitch

If you’re not using OIO publisher for your blog’s advertising, you should be. I’m not just saying this. One look after installing it and you will realize that this is an amazing piece of software that is going to make you money and ECs. There is nothing out there like it. That is why the first time I used it, I called the team on the phone and told them how awesome it was, and how we need to get Entrecard Credits as an accepted form of payment and this thing can blow up. If you have ever thought about selling advertising on your blog, or if you’re looking to make some extra money or ECs, and thought it was complicated or a hassle, think again. This makes it so easy, so autopilot, that I can’t say enough good things about it. We installed it on the Entrecard blog and we’re never going back to anything else. It’s just that awesome. GET IT! -and offer lots of advertising options for EC!

6
Gary Says:

Is there a 75% tax on everything purchased via this system?

7
Graham Says:

No, these are not taxed at 75%. The API fee of 12.5 % applies, but everything after that goes right to you.

8
Bas - Istanbul Expat Says:

I agree with Guttu. I won’t try it for $30.-

Especially since I’ve never heard about it before. Besides that, I really don’t appreciate commercial emails in my Inbox of people or groups of people trying to sell me stuff.

You could have informed me about the partnership instead of selling the product.

9
fragileheart Says:

I’m still not sure I want to completely sell out. I so far like that I have one piece advertisement banner on my page and that’s it. But I do like that you can basically turn your ECs in to real money now – without straight out selling them.

10
Graham Says:

We’ve never sold you a product ever. This one isolated instance is just because it would be great if everyone in EC was using OIO to sell all these different ad formats. We felt it necessary -that the good would outweigh the bad. It’s not like we’re spamming you some unrelated offer that has nothing to do with EC. We’ve partnered and now EC is an accepted form of payment for every type of blog advertising in existence.

11

Wow, great internet marketing post. So I can pay to sign up for this? I knew I was doing something wrong, ususally people pay me to try something.

It figures! I just installed this on my blog this past weekend – wish I had known, I could have waited 2 days and saved myself some money.

It took a while to set up, and I was able to get it to work with my blogger blog also, through my self hosted wordpress account.

I will be upgrading to the 2.0 version today.

So glad to hear of this partnership with EC and OIO – and using EC’s to pay for ads – even better!

Thanks Graham!!

OK, Here is my contest entry per your email.

I think I need to post it here?? right?

Also, if people are looking for a hosting site to host the OIO app, call me at 614-429-4832 and I can probably install and host your code for you, on one of my servers, for a small fee.

Yo do need to buy the app from the link above and show me that it is a legal copy.

I still don’t get it. How do we make money when people pay us with EC credits and we are not allowed to sell our EC credits?

Can Mr. Graham or somebody please explain to me in layman’s term on how this one could get us to earn some real cash? Especially when we have to depart from our hard earned $30 just to begin with….

Hope somebody can paint me the right picture here…

15
Graham Says:

OIO lets you accept cash too. so people can buy your ads in cash, or in EC

plus, even though you can’t get real cash out yet for EC, this will expand what you can spend your EC on many many times over.

16
Blogging Buddha Says:

This OIO thing sounds good. But, even $30 is too steep I think.

17
impNERD Says:

@Graham, this is great. I obviously don’t know the specifics of the deal, but this is great news for Entrecard. Don’t worry about the people complaining about how it costs money or takes the 12.5% out. You aren’t forcing anyone to buy it or use it.

I don’t get people like that. It is like affiliate links. Some people think they are evil, for whatever reason. But, they aren’t losing anything either way. It isn’t like they are paying extra money to buy through you rather than direct. Actually, they are paying *less*.

IMO, this is by far the best partnership EC has done and will be HUGE in the future.

18
Graham Says:

I agree, strange how the first few people set the tone for the entire blog comments.

I just think expanding the portfolio of what EC’s can buy you, from a single day of advertising on a blog, to blog reviews, text links, monthly banners, and more, is just incredible.

People should be thrilled. Even if you don’t buy it, you will be able to spend your EC’s on the sites of everyone who does.

Come on people!! This is awesome!

19
Paul Says:

I have been using OIO Publisher for a month now, and I have like it so far.

I did pay the amount to use the full version, but have made it up in the last month. I don’t have to wait for once a month for a check to arrive in the mail, as I get paid at the moment someone purchases an ad, and I get 100% of the money (minus PayPal fees).

People complain about the $30, however, just remember, when you use other services you lose a percentage off the top, meaning you pay for life in lost revenue, rather than one time.

Make a pound Says:

I am all for more things to spend Ec on but it looks like no one on Ec can use this in less we buy the software could you not have done this in house let us buy # blog reviews
# text links (follow or nofollow -you choose)
# inline ads
# RSS inserted ads
# monthly 125×125 ads

it seems like this is not much use to most of us :(

21
shaxx Says:

Thanks for the reply Graham. Went over to OIC via your ref link and this is what I got:

You’re currently viewing the old location of OIOpublisher.com – once DNS records for the new server have fully propogated, you’ll see the new site!

22
Jennifer Says:

I just want to get something straight. I use blogspot. Are you saying I can’t just install this on my blog as is? Do I have to pay for separate hosting? I’m not sure I understand. And if I do, would this change anything at all about my blog such as using it, my url, my feed, etc.

23
NathanKP Says:

I think that the idea sounds interesting, but whether or not it will work out is another issue. If everyone installs this widget at once the market will be swamped with ad spaces and there won’t be enough advertisers to go around.

Second of all, the $30 fee is a little pricey I think. I wouldn’t mind if OIC took a cut of profits, but taking money before I’ve even made anything is a little more a leap of faith than I feel willing to make, at least right now.

Greg Says:

I think this is great news, and to those that can’t understand the concept of buying the pluggin their site does say

‘A free version of OIOpublisher 2.0 will be available in the near future, with limited functionality.’

Which may be a good try before you buy option.

25
Greg Says:

OK I have installed it on my blog, just got to figure out how to set up a default ad but apart from that installation was simple and configuration wasn’t to hard.

chilly Says:

Looks like a really great idea, but I hate to say it, I won’t be doing it. I don’t have $30, plus the hosting fee to use it on blogspot.
Besides, If I had $30, I damn sure wouldn’t be using blogspot. :(

This is great :) , i was willing to buy OIOPublisher plugin/software way back but thought it would be too early to buy it for a newly made blog, but seems like the email i received from entrecard plus the discount offer was a bit inspiring and it did made me buy the product :)

Here i’m, just installed it on my blog, i must say its easy to use and useful for future benefits.

Luckily i get a chance to be participated in the contest automatically..

Thanks

Tyson Says:

As I said last week, most people won’t pay a cent to be here or to do anything here. They’ll go elsewhere rather than be required to pay money to remain at EC. Requiring upfront money reminds me of a scam.

Consider my point of view. A few days ago, the founder announces VC talks have collapsed and he wants to sell his Web site. Two days later, he announces a change of heart. The next day, he proclaims a new partnership–for which he has to be earning some money.

I’m a outsider. If you were in my position, what would you think? Would you trust this person? If you had $30 readily available, would you be here in the first place?

29
Graham Says:

No one has to pay a cent to be here. We didn’t develop the software or plugin. We didn’t set the prices. A lot of people have requested the ability to sell other forms of advertising, and buy other forms of advertising, and this is the only way we could make it happen.

Don’t like it then don’t buy it -it’s simple as that. Many people will buy it and enjoy using it and make money from it, other people won’t feel like spending the money.

I don’t see what the big deal is.

30
John Says:

I don’t quite get it. I realise I need to but the software to sell ads. Do I also need to buy the software to be able to buy ads?

31
Graham Says:

No, you don’t need to buy OIO to buy the ads.

For example, I’m using it right here on the Entrecard blog, and you can buy blog reviews, text links, and banner ads, and pay with EC. You can just buy it, proceed with the checkout, and pay in EC as an EC member. And you can do this for everyone else using OIO as well.

You only need to buy it if you want to roll out all these ad formats and accept EC (and also accept cash)

Tricia Says:

For those of you wondering about the OIO plugin … here’s my experiences with it:

I’ve been using OIO for about a year now on a few of my blogs. Oddly enough it’s been working out so well on the blogs I was using it on that I just added it to ALL of my blogs a few days ago so I can now sell private ads on all of my sites and not have a middleman collect a percentage of the transaction.

The fact that I can now use my OIO plugin to sell an extra Entrecard placement (or several) if I’d like to is just a bonus.

What I like about using OIO is

1. it cuts out the middle man so that I get the full price that I’ve set my text links, banners or blog review posts at,

2. I have it set up so that I must approve the request before the advertiser makes a payment and once I approve the ad it doesn’t go up until the payment is made through paypal (I’m assuming it will work this way for Entrecard payments as well), then once the software knows a payment has been made it posts the banner or text link ad immediately without me having to do a thing.

If you’ve been getting requests on your blog for private advertising you’ll love this plugin.

It takes away the uncertainty of whether you’ll get paid by a new advertiser once you put up the links because the links don’t go up until they’ve made a payment. Advertisers can also set up subscriptions so that they’ll get requests to pay for a new round of advertising (say another month) so this takes the headache away of keeping track of who owes you money for advertising and so on.

If you visit my site you’ll see that I put a link to the OIO advertising page on my site up in the header tabs. Now anyone wanting to advertise on my site(s) can easily see the prices I charge and proceed to make advertising requests … so no more emails requesting advertising pricing – I can just point them to that page if they missed it when they visited the blog.

Oh and you can also sell either all your links as ones that follow or ones that are nofollow … or you can give the advertiser a choice and charge them a slightly higher price if they choose to have their links follow. So if you worried about the Google Gods you can make sure that your text link sales won’t get you into any trouble by only selling links that are nofollow. I give my advertisers the choice.

As I said earlier if you are getting requests for private advertising I’m sure this plugin will pay for itself within a month or two and from then on it it’s clear profits for you.

My only sore point with OIO at this moment is that they just upgraded their site and I haven’t been able to get to it since yesterday … and they have a new plugin upgrade that i want to download and every time I log into one of my blogs there’s a pop up telling me about the new plugin that I can’t download ’cause I can’t get to the site … grrrr – that pop up “new plugin” reminder has got to go.Hopefully the latest version has a way to turn it off.

Other than that one tiny point I’m very happy with OIO. BTW if you’ve been using OIO and reading the OIO forums or had the last plugin release it was clear for some time that a partnership with Entrecard was in the works. This isn’t something new that just happened.

38
Stuart Says:

40

well the shop is free, and a plugin that costs $30 hardly makes it obsolete. On top of that, the shop allows for so many other types of transactions. When it comes back you will know, and you will bow down to its greatness :)

and yes, we can all use OIO Publisher’s Marketplace to list our EC related products through our own site. It will be a third-party EC store but would work well.

Interesting! I’ve been wanting to try out OIO for a while, but didn’t think it was worth the $35~ for my site. Advertisers using PayPal and EC to buy an ad makes it worth getting! Now, all I need is the $30.

45
Anthony at Work-at-home-Wealth.com Says:

Wow! Thanks! I spent a few days figuring out a way to accept EC credits as a pyment through OIO and now you come with the answer to my prayers :)

Well just half of the answer indeed, because now I can’t exchange EC credits for money (not that I was doing it anyway, but I was looking at that as a future stream of income). I would like to see a real EC exchange, I don’t mind buying $1000 at $6 and selling at $5, $4 or even $3.

To those who are reluctanct to buy OIO all that I can say it’s GREAT. I’ve bought it a few months ago and it has paid itself several times. Not only that, Simon Emery (OIO developer) provides an excellent support on his forum addressing every bit of a problem which could arise. If you can afford it, then buy it. If your blog gets enough traffic you’ll get your money back in no time, after that it’s all profit.

46

48
Greg Says:

I do agree with Anthony, it would be great if there was a way to sell EC’s back, just like a normal currency exchange, buy at $6 and sell back at $5

If something like this is not implace, apart from the advertising on other EC members sites there is no incentive to charge advertisers EC’s

Greg

49
Gary R. Hess Says:

@Greg, the problem with that is, there is a huge amount of credits in the system. If today someone with 100,000 credits cashed them in at $5/1000, they would make $500. There are many people out there with huge amounts of credits stocked up. I had over 35,000 before a couple days ago when I decided to spend it all.

Supposedly there are over 300 people on EC who drop 300 credits every single day. Just think if those 300 people had 50,000 credits backed up. If all of them sold at the same time, that is $75,000 Graham would have to spend.

There is no way that could happen. The best-case scenario is having a system in place where people set their own prices and sell member to member with Entrecard taxing it in real money.

This isn’t for everyone. Some people will see the $30 and hosting requirements and they will remain an insurmountable barrier.

Gary : Yes, I realise that it’s not as simple as it sounds and fine print would need to be worked out. The suggestion of selling directly to others with EC charging a handling fee would work for me:) Mind you I have only a couple of 1000 ec’s.

Richard : I have open slots on my blog if you’re interested

Øyvind : the approval is just to use the OIO marketplace, you can start selling immediately

57
Greg Says:

Just a thought, is the 1000 EC’s a week limit still applicable if using the api?

ie if I want to buy advertising from a site that charges 2000EC’s, or two sites that charge 1000ec each then I can’t because of the 1000/week limit.
