The EntreBar is here!
Written on August 3rd, 2008 by Graham
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the long awaited Entrecard Toolbar is here and it’s smokin’ hot. The toolbar is for Firefox only, so if you’re not running the best browser on the net, I suggest you download Firefox 3. Again, to make sure it works properly, make sure you are running FIREFOX 3.
Ok, that being said, you can download the Entrebar Here.
Now, being that this is a toolbar, it will install directly to your browser. It packs the entire Entrecard.com site (I’m still amazed at this baby), and it also enhances your ability to do a lot of Entrecard related things. Let’s jump right into it.
Features
Quick Account Switching:
The first button you see is a button that lists all your accounts. Using this button, you can switch instantly between any account you own. If you don’t have multiple blogs listed at Entrecard, this won’t affect you.
Your Entrecard Menu:
The second button gives you a report of how many credits you have, and how many drops you’ve done today. Click it, and it will drop down to give you the options of visiting your dashboard, messagebox, ad calendar, Statistics, Linked Blogs page, and the buy EC page.
Who to Browse:
You can select your Inbox, Favorites, or any Entrecard Category you like, and browse these sites with a single click of a button right from your browser. The Toolbar will automatically take you to these sites.
How to Browse:
Want to browse your Inbox by the Most Popular? Or, would you like to go through the least expensive sites in the Technology category? Or perhaps you’d like to go through the most advertised sites in the celebrity category, because if they’re the most advertised, the blog is probably great. Entrecard Toolbar makes it possible.
The Jump Buttons
Click on the single green arrow, and you will instantly be taken to an Entrecard site. Click the double green arrow, and your browser will open the next 10 Entrecard sites, as per your specifications in “How to Browse” and “What to Browse”.
One-Touch Favorites
The Entrecard Toolbar allows you to bookmark your favorites with a single click. While on any Entrecard site, a heart icon will appear in the browser. If its shaded gray, it means the person is not in your favorites.
And if it lights up bright red, that means they are in your favorites.
You can add someone to your favorites, or remove someone from your favorites, simply by clicking the button. This will toggle between them, and confirm your action by displaying the appropriate heart icon.
One-Click Advertising
That’s right, Entrecard’s famous one-click advertising is now coming at you from the browser. Any site you are on will display its price in the browser, and with just a single click, you can advertise on that site.
Interaction Menu
We also packed a menu into the toolbar that gives you all the options to interact with a site. That means that right from the toolbar, you can go to someone’s profile, write them a recommendation, Tip them (give them credits), or report them for a violation.
Not only will this help improve community interaction, it should also increase the efficiency with which we weed out low quality blogs.
Entrecard Menu
Finally, we have a dropdown “Entrecard” menu, which will take you to the Entrecard Blog, the community forum, the support forum, the Bugs forum, and the Help section of the website. It will also allow you to log out.
Can you feel the excitement??
Needless to say, we are incredibly excited about this toolbar. It ports the entire Entrecard experience right to your browser, and lets it take it with you. I’ve been testing it for the past few days, and I usually keep it set to my Inbox at Random. Whenever I have a spare moment I jump around to see who’s been dropping on me, and I can’t tell you how many new blogs I’m coming across and commenting on.
You may not realize it now, but this is probably the single greatest development that Entrecard has made since we launched. This will fundamentally change the entire Entrecard system and your Browser becomes the cornerstone for your Entrecard experience, and lets you take it with you wherever you go.

This is pretty nice news. I’m looking forward to trying it out.
Good job Graham and Phirate.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:07 am
Great jobs guys..The day is not far when entrecredits replace the orginial money in blog advertising industry..and now with this plugin..all major services are under threat of EntreCard
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 am
Well, obviously I just threw over my SU bar for the EntreBar!
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:14 am
Jump Buttons don’t work in FF 2.0.0.16! Do we need FF3.0 for entrebar to work?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 am
Entrecard has added more useful feature in it….
Surely going to use the tool to the max….
This is why i love Entrecard…… So much excellent feature..
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:16 am
Wow Nice one guys!
I was hoping the major feature will have something to do with the Entrecard credits/economy. But never have expected our own toolbar
Will download, install, and try it now
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:17 am
I think this will be a genuine turbo-charge to the day to day business of using EntreCard.
Compliments to Phirate and the team.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:19 am
What can I say? Great work Phi.
You really did a good job on this one. The features are great.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:19 am
Ouch can’t edit our own comments
If you have the “Haven’t dropped today” on the How to Browse, so that we can click on the next 10 sites, it will be perfect! Maybe on next release? Meanwhile, we’ll enjoy this version!
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 am
I’ll download it right now and try it out… Any spyware or tracking we should be aware of in the toolbar? I usually shy away from toolbars because of that.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:22 am
Wow.. this is very interesting. Week by week, Entrecard got something to amaze us with. This is great news. Thanks Graham!
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 am
It’s supposed to work for Firefox 2, but was tested extensively with Firefox 3. Please make sure you’re running Firefox 3. After all, its the latest and greatest.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:25 am
All downloaded, installed, and thought to be ready to go, but I can’t login.
I was all ready to give it a test run too
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 am
Bcarter, are you running firefox 3?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 am
Yes, 3.0.1
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 am
Same here Firefox 3 and the bar will not let me login.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 am
This is soooo cool. I love it to pieces. I does everything I would have asked for it to do. Great job!!!!
This will make dropping so much easier – and mixx up the blogs so I can see blogs I haven’t seen before. Thanks
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:41 am
WOW!! I’ve installed it and am now cruising through my Inbox! Fantastic!!
Graham, Phirate, this is GREAT!
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:41 am
This is great. Gave it a test run. It has stopped the logging out constantly issue I was having with my one account on firefox. The only problem I am seeing is when I select to pull blogs from my inbox, it pulls out random ones instead. Not sure why. Using Firefox 3.01.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:47 am
This is great news. I’ve downloaded and installed the toolbar, and now it’s time to take it for a test run.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:48 am
For the people having login issues, maybe try resetting your password? Might work. We can always wait for Phirate but he’s sleeping right now

August 3rd, 2008 at 10:49 am
Like Terry, I’m unable to get the toolbar to log in. It automatically populated my email address and password. I click the login and it does nothing. I retyped the password, still nothing.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:50 am
Wow! This is awesome! I have given it a semi-test run, so far so good. I love it! Thanks guys!
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:51 am
OK, a question. I used the single green arrow to drop on 10 sites in my Inbox. Then both arrows grayed out. So, I reselected by choices in the dropdowns, took me back to the beginning of my Inbox. Is there a way to select sites I haven’t dropped on?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 am
I just downloaded it. I will be using it.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 am
installed and tried. pretty cool, i like it.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:56 am
same here, I can’t login, it just says “Logging in to Entrecard” and the progress bar continues to move, but nothing happened. I’m using firefox 2.0.0.16.
thanks
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:57 am
It’s a beautiful thing. Thank you, thank you!
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 am
OK, I get to 10 drops on my Inbox set to Random and both green arrows gray out and I can’t do any more. Is there something I need to do differently?
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:01 am
**Love** it!! I don’t even like tool bars.. but this one is a keeper for me.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:02 am
Great, now this is really useful to me, now it’s much easier to switch accounts etc, the only problem I have is, could you add an option in one of the drop down boxes for “Cards you haven’t dropped on”
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:04 am
I see what it’s doing. It stops on today’s date. How can I get it to jump the date line?
A suggestion: An option not to go to blogs already dropped on?
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 am
wow! Good job, guys!
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:11 am
This is NEAT! I will try it now
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:12 am
Updated password, still no luck.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:15 am
I had the same problem with it not logging on. I unchecked the “remember me on this browser” and it signed right in.
Try that. Hope it works for you
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:20 am
If the toolbar only says “Logging into…” you probably have a conflicting extension on FF. Try to remove the “Feed Sidebar 3.01″. Or something else
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:24 am
A pretty nice fix would be if it won’t display blogs that we’ve already visited when we browse over to inbox using the toolbar
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 am
Installed the toolbar earlier and have to say really enjoying it. I just wrote a short blog post about it http://www.problogineer.com/entrecard-launch-official-firefox-toolbar
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:25 am
I was right on my guess in the forum

this is so cool! im using it right now. good job with the toolbar! =)
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:29 am
I do have a question though, Graham. I’m wondering how this is going to affect our click throughs from our cards that we are advertising on other blogs? Is it possible we might see a decrease in traffic? I’m thinking, yeah.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the toolbar. I’m just afraid that people won’t be actually clicking on the cards anymore, but I may be wrong. What do you think?
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:30 am
I just flat out receive a “login failed” error.
I’ll have to revisit this later. As much as I’m itching to try the toolbar out, I need to get other things done.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:34 am
The toolbar is a great idea! However, IMHO designing it to be compatible only with FireFox is not. Why was it not designed to be compatible with other browsers, particularly Internet Explorer since it is still the most popular bowser? The login problems others have mentioned and FF’s tendency to crash even more than IE does are just two reasons I will not go back to FF. Granted, I haven’t tried FF3, and don’t plan to. IE7 currently meets my needs better than anything else right now. Regardless of opinions on best browser, compatibility rather than personal preference should be the more important issue, I think.
My overall experience with EntreCard has been wonderful! Just wanted to share my thoughts on the toolbar compatibility issue.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:35 am

August 3rd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Yay!
Thank you for the handy toolbar. I like it.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:35 am
I already hate toolbars. They just slowdown my browser loads. Looking at the features it offers I don’t need those features. I’ll be looking forward for more changes and features that attract me. But currently I am happy without the toolbar.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:36 am
MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!! WOOT!!
Thanks soooooo much!!!! *happy dance*
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 am
Very nice!!! Downloading now. Can’t wait to use this great tool!
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:40 am
Haha this awesome! Nice work on this =-).
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:43 am
Graham, the tool is awesome, I use it for my droppings today, so far it is the best thing I’ve seen
Thanks!
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 am
Wonderful! Just downloaded and can’t wait to play with it.
Thanks Graham.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 am
And things just keep getting better and better. I’m looking forward to more innovations from Entrecard!
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 am
OH MY GOD. Wonderful job. There was talk about it and then here it is! You guys are quick. Looking forward to try it out
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:58 am
looks great! I can’t wait to try it out
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:59 am
Yay! Now if all this surfing and card dropping will stop crashing my computer.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Sounds great in theory, but I’m not positive I’ll be making use of it. I love the idea, but doesn’t anyone else notice that all the toolbars at the top of your browser window push your actual page lower and lower, making it effectively smaller (in height)? Just keeps getting harder to keep “important” things above the fold!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:05 pm
A few things:
1) I don’t want it to load pages I already dropped on when I search my Inbox.
2) It somehow reset my dropping after being idle for a few minutes. For example, I click next 10, wait a bit, drop on those sites and click next 10 after waiting about 10 minutes and it loads the same sites as before.
@Timothy Smith no offense, but Internet Explorer is a horrible browser and a lot harder to code for since it isn’t Open Source. If you have a complaint about compatibility you should talk to them about it. Also, everyone on EC is a web developer in some kind. And there is absolutely no reason why a web developer shouldn’t have at least 3 browsers installed on whatever PC they use. Also, since this is a somewhat technical site, I’m positive that more people are using Firefox than IE. So if there was an original release of the toolbar only to IE, that would be serving the minority.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:07 pm
@Timothy
We had to start with Firefox. We certainly want to expand the toolbars to all browsers, but something like 80% of Entrecarders use Firefox, so given our limited resources, we had to go with Firefox to start with.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Sue,
I bet I’ll do the same.LOL
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
I thought of writing about it on my blog. My question is if I post the entrebar picture on my blog?? Anyway really cool toolbar
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Ooo nice! I downloaded it already and am trying it out, I like it! Thanks!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:22 pm
@Ruthie you probably will see a decrease in click-throughs, but it won’t matter in the long run. Those who won’t click on the ad now were most likely the ones who only clicked on the EC to gain a credit in the first place. Visitors don’t always mean something. The quality visitors you get from non-ECers and ECers who read will still be there.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
@Jules,
Yes of course, post any of our images on your blog if you wish to blog about it. And we do encourage anyone who feels up to it, to blog about it

Well, the fact that it continually opens sites (two or three or more times) that I’ve already dropped on is definitely a problem. Also, without a way to indicate which sites to NEVER open (the ones with popups, the ones with music, the ones with talking ads, the ones that have so many flashy things I feel like I’m going to have a seizure), it’s not a terribly useful tool for me. Bummer.
But I’ll check back when you get to version 1.0.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Do you know when it will be compatible with Internet Explorer?
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:45 pm
At this point it is very difficult to say when it might be available for IE.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Oh my goodness! I love this thing!! Thank you!!!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Excited!!!

August 3rd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
What a great toolbar. I have it installed and posted about it in my weekly review series. I love it! It’ll make dropping that much easier. Thanks!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Amazing! I’ve downloaded it and will be using it. Definitely something that’s going to be really useful.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Wow guys, this thing is going to be a smash!! You guys really pulled one out of the hat on this. I just can’t tell you how pleased I am with this new tool.
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:56 pm
So far, so good for me, I love it! Kudos….to you all, a job well done!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Ok, I tried it out a little bit. I love, love, love, love it! Of course, I’m sure there will be bugs to work out as with anything really but I know you guys will be brilliant at fixing that too. Phi, I now see why Graham was singing your praises. Pure genius!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:57 pm

August 3rd, 2008 at 1:01 pm
@poet blogger
Coding for browsers is the same. MS provides API’s to be used for toolbars and extensions. There is no need for the code. Personally I like IE more than FF. IE renders cleanly. But I love flock for it’s features. So currently using that. FF3 was hyped so high and delivered nothing.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Ok, just addressing a few issues:
Login problems
If you’re having problems with the email and password that it produces when you install the toolbar, these may not be correct. They’re retrieved from your stored passwords for Entrecard.com but might be for the wrong email address. Please try clearing the login and password, and re-typing your real email and password for EC>
If it is just spinning when trying to log in, please post on Bugs with your browser version, and any other toolbars or extensions you may have installed, and we’ll get right on it.
Random inbox content
Not sure what’s going on there. Please post in the Bugs forum with details.
Next/Next-10 repeating results
I thought I had this problem fixed, if there isn’t already a topic on it, please post to Bugs. We’ll push an update iwth a fix as soon as I can figure out what’s going on. Please note which category dropdown and order you’re using.
Requests to filter dropped-on pages, Requests for more than one day of inbox data
These are coming. I ended up with a choice between releasing with a well-tested toolbar or one with a bunch of new features we hadn’t tested. I opted for the simpler, well tested version to minimize problems on release. More capabilities should arrive soon.
Other ideas/bugs
Please post to the relevant forum and we’ll see what we can do
The toolbar auto-updates using the normal firefox methods, so you’ll receive upgrades as we go.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:05 pm
@Guttu I said it was harder, not impossible.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:06 pm

WOW! Woooooooooooooooooooooooo! I have been waiting for this! Thanks guys!
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:18 pm
@impNERD: yeah toolbar modding is fine. Please note that we don’t permit people making mod’d toolbars available for download in whole or in part, due to the risk of introducing code for stealing logins. But tutorials are fine
I believe the toolbar should be compatible with flock, but I have nor eal idea.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Fast switching: Great. Next 10 sites (maybe that could be configurable). Favorites: Wonderful. Profile page: Very helpful. Links to the Entrecard site: Useful and appropriate. I would suggest a refresh / reload (for switching blogs and dropping multiple times on the same site). Yes, it takes up browser space but can be hidden and brought out when needed. Doesn’t seem to make the browser load or run slower.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:22 pm
@phirate don’t worry man, I won’t put it available for download. Just thought I’d help out some power users.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Yay! I downloaded it! but my problem is when I press the ‘next site’ it shows me the one I visited why is that?
i’m using FF3
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Please note that if the arrows “grey out”, this means you reached the end of your inbox for today.
If you change your search settings, it will reset to the start of that zone.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Phirate, you are GREAT! Thanks for addressing things so quickly! The toolbar is fantastic!
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I too would like to see it compatible with other browsers. My preferred browser is Camino of which I just downloaded the upgrade. All my passwords in Camino because that is the browser I use the most. Safari came loaded on my machine. My husband likes both Safari and IE (which I detest). I also have Mozilla on this computer so sitting at 4 browsers I’m not too fond of having to download another browser and find all my passwords again for a new browser. I do think that Safari and Camino are the most popular for Mac users. That being said I am downloading Firefox3 right now and the toolbar to try out but for regular surfing I doubt Firefox3 is going to be it for me. We’ll see. Good job on the toolbar though. It sounds like those who are already using Firefox are quite excited.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I guess I better download this one too.. I love these new features that you guys are coming up… makes it easier for us bloggers..
great job!
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I don’t know which scares me more, that you visit joetech’s site to take screen shots, or that your browser has a Norton toolbar. What’s next, a Ralph Kramden mousepad?
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Cool stuff. I’m downloading it now as I type this. Thanks for making it better for the rest of us.

Does this not work on macs? I have firefox on my mac but the buttons cannot sign in – the buttons do not work/are not pushable…
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:06 pm
@cp It should work on Macs, I don’t have a Mac so I haven’t been able to test it myself (wish I did :/) but it uses very standard stuff for the buttons etc, so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t work.
What version of firefox are you using?
@shearyadi: Yes, this was the secret thing Graham was talking about. I didn’t tell him about it while I was working on it, kinda surprised him with it (I’m sneaky like that sometimes), it was funny
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Great. So innovative that it surely will help bloggers easily get in touch with other blogs and entrecard site as well. Thank for the good news.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Couple other suggestions: A link to MY blog (whichever blog is signed into entrecard) to check comments / update posts. Rss feeds in a dropdown (add a feed for a visited site to monitor comments or watch for updated posts, etc).
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
An absolutely spiffnificent tool! The running count of credits and drops is great, and it’s really easy to blast through a whole buncha blogs in a jiffy. Thanx, guys!
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Looks sweet, I’ll use it to go dropping =P
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Oh: And I don’t see an option in the dropdown for browsing SezWho sites (hint).
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I really like entre card but this is one thing i’m not going for. I hate having my browser cluttered with tool bars. But it was a neet ides.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:30 pm
cool toolbar…
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Hi, This is a great feature. I think with the addition of this, Entrecard has become the best blog related web 2.0 application in 2008. Thanks for giving the toolbar.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Trying it. Looking for a way to squeeze all the toolbars into one. Too many of them with this too.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I don’t know if this is related. Maybe it could be included on the browser bar. Maybe not. But can you find a way to “reward” us for being favorited? Well, if people favorite us; then they can browse their favorites and drop on us (great)! But, does being favorited affect our popularity score? If not, maybe it should. Otherwise, an option on the dropdown for most favorited? Having these options (favorites, inbox, most favorited) might “require” a new design for the dropdown box (a divider line would suffice). Also, I have to sign in to comment: A fast-fill option for signing filling in name, email, and website would be nice (but not necessary). Finally, if you’ve clicked my name to visit my website (here, in my comments): Transfigure (above) links to mindrec.net (another of my sites)… this comment has the correct website link
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Sick. My only request is some way to move it around (like other toolbars do) so I can put it on the bottom to avoid clogging up the top of firefox.
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Hmmm.. Sounds cool. Going to check it out!
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:46 pm
awesome just downloaded and installed it. will give it a test run in a bit
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
@transfigure Being favorited doesnt’ really reward you much, but there is a small ‘reward’, on the profiles page there’s a “Related sites” type thing that is generated by cross-correlating the favorites of users who also liked the site you’re looking at. We hope to make more use of this data later.
We can’t do “most favorited” because we’re well aware of our members ability to manipulate that kind of ranking, but we hope to introduce a similar scheme later.
Fast-fill is an interesting idea I hadn’t heard before, I’ll investigate that.
@bmcel: You know, I actually don’t know why it doesn’t do that, I’ll look into it.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Gotta say, this is definitely just what I’ve been looking for. Thank you entrecard.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
@phirate:
no, the arrow is still yellow but I still brought to the blogs I already dropped.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Graham…Can this be uninstalled if it doesn’t work very well or if it is used from a work computer behind a firewall?
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Hello,
Nice idea but there are a few issues that need resolving for Linux.
1. The login doesn’t work at all. I have to go to the EntreCard site and login, the login from the bar.
2. The green arrow for next/next10 do not work at all.
Thank you.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
@turnip…i bet graham and phirate don’t know who Ralph Kramden is….you’re showing your age, buddy!
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:59 pm
wow, an Entrebar! this looks fun and very convenient. but my browser is internet explorer. i might try it out though once i download firefox. a couple of questions: will it not affect the performance of my computer, i.e. loading time? and can it be uninstalled as Matt Urdan asked?
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:02 pm
@Mar: I’m using ubuntu myself, it works fine for me. Some other users have reported similar issues, could you note which other extensions (if any) you may have installed, and what version of Firefox you have?
@Matt/Kik: Yes, you absolutely can uninstall it, it’s a standard firefox extension, simply go to Tools -> Add ons, then hit Uninstall on the Entrecard Add on. Please note it may be necessary to clear your cookies afterwards to restore normal login functionality on Entrecard.
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Thanks Graham!!! This is really an awesome step towards user-friendly site. Now my Stumbleupon toolbar will be replaced with this toolbar.
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:34 pm
looks to good,
This will help me to get more involved with entrecard.
I am getting edicted to it already.
but please avoid/ remove this 10 sites at a time button.
let the viewer get the taste of site fully and then move on.
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
it looks amazings!! so this is the BIG NEWS?
Congrats!
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:59 pm
This toolbar eliminates the need for my bookmarks – thank you! I’m having some issues with it logging me out but I was having that before and needed to go in and clear my cookies a couple times a day…..guess I’ll need to continue doing this.
Great work though.
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:00 pm

August 3rd, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Amazing…… So I can visit more site with this toolbar. my batch only contain few site and with this tool bar I can visiting another site. yay.. *Download the toolbar*
(I’m happy because I already using firefox 3)
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Awesome!! Makes dropping so much faster! Thanks!
BTW, fyi, I did have to install FF V3. It wouldn’t allow me to login with V2.0.0.16, but that’s no big deal to me.
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I have been using the EntreBar for the past hour and I must say that I totally LOVE it!
Really really makes a huge difference. I being able to advertise with one mouse click. Ditto for favouriting.
And now finally there is an easy way to surf my inbox and reciprocal drop on all those who have dropped on me.
I also just generally love being able to click the next button and jump to the next site in any number of different categies. You really have put a lot of thought into this and produced a killer EntreCard app!
I’ll blog about this and hope that I’ll be able to get more people enthusiastic about joining our community.
Well done and thanks very much.
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 pm
wow this is very exciting news and i will going to use it now and experience how handy is this tool bar…
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:38 pm
wow indeed a great news.i just downloaded mine and hopefully start using it soon. you rock!
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:45 pm
so far, Graham.. I LIKE!!!…and there you have it!
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Only wish there was a toolbar for opera. I don’t drop with firefox because for some reason it screws up my cookies so I have to log back in to every site I use.
August 3rd, 2008 at 6:22 pm
nice toolbar, alrdy tested and working nice, except the first login using it. only thing it lacks is the functionality within the inbox option. as others commented, it will really be useful to add the cards not dropped today & yesterday option and open it in 1 or 10 tabs. because i see a lot of people likes to reciprocate drops.
August 3rd, 2008 at 6:30 pm
From what I see peeps write it must be a nice toolbar, but my SU toolbar has too much of a universal purpose for me, nice try at bumping it tho!
August 3rd, 2008 at 6:42 pm
This is really sounds great…I will try this sooner, still didn’t got the FF3.0
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:09 pm
I use Flock browser, which is powered by Mozilla. Most Firefox extensions run in Flock happily, as does the Stumble tool bar. I can’t log in with the Entrecard tool bar. It just hangs at ‘Logging in to Entrecard’. I have cleared the sign in details and inserted them again, but still no joy. Could you tell me if it is possible to run it in Flock please.
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Well..downloaded…tried several times and can’t log in. I read through all the comments above and have done everything suggested…and…still does not log me in. oh well. nice thought I guess!
BTW – I’m on FF3.01. For whatever reason..it isn’t logging in…just have a green cylon looking thing going back and forth! LOL.
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Hi. I’ve just installed the tool bar into Firefox 3 and it does exactly the same. Just hangs at login. Could this problem possibly be because I use Mac?
I would really like to use the tool bar if it’s possible.
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Great! Can’t wait to try it!
Thanks!
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Wohoo finally it’s here!! Great job guys!
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
The toolbar works well – Phi did a great job developing it. I like the ability to see how much an ad costs without needing to click through to their profile page.
However, now that folks can just “next” their way through sites, there is now even less reason for anyone to click on an ad. The widget is becoming a button, click on it and get a cookie, err I mean a credit. The ability to advertise has even less value now.
SB
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Installed it and am enjoying it so far.
I usually resist installing toolbars for applications, but with Entrecard I certainly made the exception.
Best features – easy to switch between my own blogs & that the toolbar shows you if you have an ad in the queue.
Keep up the great work!
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
This is pretty cool, Thanks!
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Firefox might be the best browser in the net , but for the average web surfer can get along fine without Firefox and leaving out IE users was a bad move by the Entrecard team. Not that it effects me since I primarily use Firefox but if you are IE user you will surely feel negelected , for me the best thing would have being delay it a while and get make it available for every user at once. Amazingly nice idea. This is pretty cool guys. Just kinda’ bummed that the green triangle buttons don’t work. I’m running a completely up-to-date copy of FF3 with minimal extensions on WinXP, and it let me click it once (in Inbox > Newest, for example), and then i click it again, it thinks, and then greys out. Any suggested fixes?
August 4th, 2008 at 9:22 am
And for those hesitant to upgrade to FF3, it’s SOOO much more stable than FF2, uses less memory, and is just generally awesome. Sadly, 10.4 or higher OS X is requiered on the Mac side, so older os users there are limited… but in general, FF3 is greatness.

Actually, Linkback, we’re not trying to bump the stumble bar. We feel the most benefit can come to our members who stumble sites they like as they drop, so I would actually recommend both. Neither is a replacement for the other.

This looks like it will benefit a lot of bloggers using Entrecard. I just can’t wait until the bugs are worked out of it because none of the buttons work, I can’t even login with the tool bar.
August 4th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
@Majik: It could be that your Firefox cookies file has become corrupted.
This is the latest Firefox bug and it is affecting a lot of Firefox users many of whom don’t know why or what is happening.
If you are having problems staying logged into web sites with Firefox, there is a reason for this and a resolution.
I blogged the solution here.
August 4th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Another suggestion:
I’d like to be able to browse the EC community of blogs by location.
For instance, I’m a South African blogger, and I’d like to be able to browse all South African blogs and drop on them, because they are most likeliest (I think) to take an interest in becoming regular readers of my blog which talks about stuff which is mostly relevant to my fellow South Africans.
August 4th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
This is a great toolbar and I have tried it myself. However, there is an annoying problem and I hope that you could make the enhancement to it. what I need is the toolbar to remember the site that I have dropped so that when I restarted my computer, I will only browse the sites that I have not visited and dropped. At this moment, I had to go through all those sites that I have visited and dropped all over again whenever I restarted my computer.
Hope that you would consider that.
Thanks and Cheers!

I have just installed FF 3 so there should be no problems with corrupted cookie files. I have changed a few settings and the sign up button works now but that’s about it. I hope there will be an update soon so I can finally check out the tool bar.

August 5th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

August 5th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
@majik: Firefox 3 generally appears to have problems retaining its cookies.
If you haven’t tried deleting the cookies file yet, do it. Immediately after doing that, my logins to all sites were retained.
But now 2 weeks afterwards, I find that I am being logged out of random sites.
Clearly there is a deeper problem with Firefox 3 and the way it handles cookies. They changed things between version 2 and 3, and no doubt managed to introduce some bugs.

Same problems with FF3 here, and most times if I have more than three tabs with sites open from entre while the tool bar is active, it just shuts FF off.
Hope someone can figure this out, loving the toolbar.

August 5th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Seems to me the drops/hits will increase, but won’t this toolbar exasperate the bounce rate/time on site issue? Seems like the toolbar encourages site bouncing much like SU.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Love the new toolbar. I find it so much easier to stroll through more blogs casually. Some great blogs in this community.
It would be nice if I could stroll through my inbox using the toolbar with the addition of a filter that would filter out all the blogs I have already dropped on that day.
great work
August 5th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
@ Richard Catto,
I wonder if it would help to set FF 3 to remove cookies every time I close the program. I was using FF 2 the same way and the only problem I had was always having to login everyday. I suppose that is not that big of a problem, what do you think?
August 5th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
a great thing to have for easy access! thank you so much. but…i can’t move the entire toolbar. help you can me on this one…
August 6th, 2008 at 12:11 am
two days no updates…..????
Whats for wordpress plugin today??
August 6th, 2008 at 12:15 am
@majik: that is the problem I wish to avoid. I want to login to a site and not be logged out until I explicitly log myself out.
@Brad: I second your suggestion – great idea!
Another suggestion for the EntreBar:
I’d like to be able to tell the EntreBar to skip certain sites (i.e. put them on an exclude list). If I come across a site that takes a very long time to load, or has the EC widget right at the bottom of the page or automatically plays music or 101 other annoyances, I don’t want the EntreBar to show me that site again.
Just a general remark: If a blogger chooses to display his EC widget way down the page, I will never advertise with them. The EC widget must be right at the top or I am not interested.
August 6th, 2008 at 3:49 am
everything working fine for me and this tool bar is super cool

August 6th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
yeah, an ignore list would be great. A one-click button to ignore a blog in the toolbar is our wish.
Anyway about visiting the same blogs again & again, I still experience that, I hope this will be sorted out in the next release.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
One thing I’ve been noticing for some time now is the diminishing returns I’m getting on advertising with other EC bloggers.
It’s not unusual these days to get ZERO clicks off an EC advert, even if I spent as much as 128 or 256 EC on it.
And I have never ever gotten even over 100 clicks off an EC advert. I’ve never broken even. I’ve never gotten more clicks than the price I paid.
This has not put me off belonging to EC, but I know for a fact that it has caused others to drop out.
So what this means for me is that I choose not to spend over 256 EC on any given advert.
I also am not happy with the fact that an EC advert that costs 256EC only gives a quarter of that (i.e. 64EC to the publisher). What happens to the other 3/4? Does that get lost or is that EC’s “commission” because if that’s the commission it is a HUGE levy to exact off us.
I believe that this needs addressing as soon as possible.
I believe also that the solution to the poor return on EC adverts is to give EC members an incentive to click them, i.e. give them 1 EC to click the advert, as well as the drop. The publisher should get 1 additional EC as well if the advert they display is clicked.

Has anyone ever wondered how powerful this can be when used with the Alexa toolbar?
Hehe. figured out something.
My little secret!

@Richard:
that’s the same reason, why I don’t buy ad on high priced blogs. I think I set the limit to 64ec.

@richard
due to such complications I have stopped adverts. Bad thing that inspite of high popularity rating my blog stays in last position.

Richard, the other 3/4 get removed from the economy entirely and automatically. It doesn’t go to the house, or anyone else. It just gets deleted. This is to prevent inflation. If every credit we put into the system stayed there forever, we’d have much bigger problems on our hands.

[...] Why am I writing this post now? I know Entrecard has been around for a while now and I’m too late to start raving about it now when everyone else has already posted so many months ago how EC made them cream their pants. Nice job with the toolbar. The feature i use most is the feature which generates 10 blogs for me based on a pre-specified criteria.

Anyway my problem are still not solved. Whenever I used the “Inbox+Random / Most Popular” combi I still brought to the same blog I’ve visited.
The “All + Random” save me! but I can’t drop on blogs that dropped on me unless I go to my dashboard and drop it, CLASSIC style.

Hi, is there a timeline for making Entrebar available for FF 3.6? It got disabled for me, presumably because there is no version for it yet. Thanks.
