Dashboard Links for Sale

Written on January 1st, 2006 by Graham

That’s right ladies and gentlement, the #1 most clicked on link in the ENTIRE Entrecard website is for rent. We’re trying to raise the funds to buy another server. However, there are a ton of guidelines, because we would NEVER defile our dashboard with a link we considered to be spam. So, here goes.

Permitted:

  • Links to specific posts on your blog ARE permitted, but we reserve the right to deny any link for any reason.
  • Links to your blog itself ARE permitted, but again, we reserve the right to deny any blog for any reason.
  • Links to products and services ARE permitted, but only if they appeal to bloggers, are targeted to bloggers, and bring real value to bloggers.
  • Text 30 words or less.

Not Permitted:

  • Any link to anything that has nothing to do with blogging.
  • Anything spammy.
  • Text over 30 words.

The Price & Limitations:

  • $25 dollars per link per day
  • No more than three sponsored links will be displayed on any given day
  • First come first serve
  • Purchase as many days as you like.
  • A full month costs $700
  • Text cannot exceed 30 words.

To purchase:

  • Send an email to graham@entrecard.com with subject “Dashboard Link” and provide the link you would want and the text you would want. Also specify how many days (minimum 1) you would like to purchase the link for.
  • Your link will be evaluated for relevance and value to our community.
  • If approved, you will paypal the money to support@entrecard.com.
  • Your link will go up for the period of time you have paid for.

I would like to thank in advance anyone who supports the Entrecard community by purchasing a dashboard link. Our first and foremost concern is to bring value to our members, and so if you have a post, a blog, a product or service that you feel would be valuable to our members, this is a great opportunity to get it in front of thousands and thousands of bloggers eyes.

That sounds like an excellent deal. How long will you be running the “Dashboard link” for? Will just be until you have raised enough for another server?

2
Gary R. Hess Says:

Sounds like an awesome opportunity to get noticed.

3
Tom Says:

I think Majik has an excellent question. Is this going to be a permanent addition to the dashboard?

4
Graham Says:

It depends how it goes. If we find that our members are finding it useful and fun, then yes. If we find our members are annoyed by it, then no.

That is why we will only accept relevant and targeted links, and nothing that would be considered spam. In theory, this could be very useful to everyone. However, its something new we’re testing. So we’ll see.

I think it’s a great opportunity – something to save up for :)

That’s a great idea to monetise the site.

Love the idea – sadly that is my advertising budget for the year!
All the best — cheers!

This actually is a good idea.

Why not also give us an option to “buy” the space using EC?

those guidelines just took me out of the running

I would like to see a demo of where this placement will be. I just didn’t see that anywhere in the post lmao. Maybe I am too tired to try to concentrate on a skill such as reading.

@ Graham

I fully understand your need to get another server for this wonderful site you have created. Thank you for answering my question.

I do have a suggestion for your advertising I’m not sure how much extra work it would be but I believe it would reduce negative responses. I don’t know where you would be placing the $25 ad link on the Dashboard. But I believe if you created a box to feature this link in between the box for “Latest Buzz” and “Quick Stats” this would not take anything away from the average Entrecarder’s experience. You maybe even able to create a spot for featuring up to six of these ads at a reduced price which might be more appealing and help you reach your goal quicker.

That was just a quick thought I had about where and how. Ultimately it’s your choice but I do hope you consider my suggestion.

Graham Says:

@Majik -there’s yet to be a negative response. However, we’ll consider it. Let’s gauge the demand and go from there, no?

bm Says:

nice offer, but the price per day is too high for me

Ok, I will start us off.

Dontcha think 25 bones is rather steep for the 24 attention of auto-surfers?

No real target audience to be honed in on for the price. $10.00 sounds fair. Unless you just need the clicks to show Google AdNonsense… :-)

dai Says:

well,
not interested!
(However, I wish you all the best for the new server)

Majik Says:

@ Graham,

You da boss! Thanks for considering/reading my suggestion!

@ Guy Vestal,

I was kinda thinking the same thing about the cost for 24 hours. Considering with a different ad publisher I could get the same impressions for a lot less. CTR may be different but I do think $25 is a bit high.

This looks like an interesting proposition. I wonder if $25/day provides a good value for advertisers however.

Natural Says:

700$ american dollars. we’re in a recession. everybody should be broke.
can you make it affordable entrecard. we’re bloggers.

20
Gemini Says:

$700 sounds a little too much… I am sure I will get huuuuuuuuuuge traffic, but this doesn’t justify the price, I think. I beg to differ though.

21
chetan Says:

I know that advertising can be of great profit. But don’t you think that is too much for 1 month’s advertising. Bloggers normally don’t earn that much.

22
Crunch Now Dot com Says:

The price is really steep you can advertise on sites with over 50 Million Uniques a month for less then $700.00 for example Techcrunch, blogcatalog, engadget and many more
Entrecard gets under a million views a month the numbers don’t add up…

23
Graham Says:

Well that’s our price, certainly no one has to pay it who doesn’t find it to be a good value.

You can also compare it to John Chow’s site, where a 125×125 costs 1000 per month, or Problogger where a 125×125 costs 1500 per month and I guarantee this gets more visits and more targetted visits at that.

24
Crunch Now Dot com Says:

I have a idea Graham,How about you rent the link out to someone for say 2.50 until the next person pays the $25.00 that way it wont be wasted space for hours on end.The only catch is someone mite pay 2.50 and then 5 mintues later someone buys the spot for $25.00,or you mite have your ad there for 5,10 12 24 hours ect

This is just a helpful suggestion.

25
Philip Says:

Excellent idea, but seems pricey.

26
bonoriau Says:

woow this is interesting … the price for me reasonable…some other places are even more expensive. I’ll consider.
