Entrecard Credits Overhaul
Written on June 3rd, 2008 by Graham
There’s a whole lot to announce today in terms of the Entrecard Economy. Let’s get into it.
Option to Buy Credits is here
Finally, the long awaited option to buy credits has arrived. While dropping is by far the most popular option to get credits, if you wanted to launch a massive campaign, there is no way you could get the credits you needed quickly by dropping.
So now, on your dashboard, you will now find a link to “Buy Credits”. You can also use this link:
http://entrecard.com/r/buy_credits
Where do these credits come from?
Our goal is to see you succeed and reach your goals. A lot of bloggers have a goal to generate some money from their blog, and we believe that people can, and deserve, to make a little money while blogging about the things they’re passionate about. However, every day people try to earn credits illegally, only to have their credits eliminated and their accounts removed. Every time you purchase credits through a third party, you’re running a risk. Will their credits be eliminated before they can pay you? Are they going to rip you off? The truth is a lot of people out there want to buy credits, but they need a trusted source.
To this end, it wouldn’t serve you well if we just generated credits out of thin air and sold them. You’ve worked hard for those credits, and in a sense we don’t feel we have the right to undermine all the time you spend with us by cheating our own system. So, the answer to the long awaited question, is you. We buy these credits from you.
The way it works is we purchase the credits from trusted members of the community. We’re going to secure about 20,000 to 40,000 credits each day to sell by purchasing them from these trusted members who’s earning methods can be validated and approved through our system, and who’s blogs are top-notch. We will not buy from anyone who exhibits suspicious activity, and we will not buy from anyone with a sub-par quality blog.
Our economy is very delicate and must stay balanced at all time, and we would like to take a moment to assure you that this action will serve only to increase the value of the Credit, and create more value for our members who are interested in generating revenue by selling their credits.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to post them in the comments section, or in the forums.
Earn credits every time you publish a post on your blog
Starting June 2nd, every time you write a post on your blog, you will now earn 25 Entrecard Credits. This compensation is limited to once every three days, and is handled automatically via your RSS feed, which our system picks up automatically. Our mission at Entrecard is to help you succeed as a blogger, and now we take that further by giving you advertising credits when you do your thing and post to your blog! Your blog’s content is the most critical element of your blog, and is ultimately the key to your success as a blogger. It is important to update it regularly, so please enjoy a little motivation to post from us, the EC Team.
Write for the EC Blog – make $$ (credits)
Writing for the Entrecard Blog is a great way to help build YOUR blog and OUR community at the same time. It gets your name out in front of the community and it drives traffic to your blog with your card and link prominently displayed at the top of the post. We are hereby welcoming anyone and everyone in the community to write for our blog and showcase your skills as a blogger. You will also be handsomely rewarded in credits. Your credit pay will be determined based on the quality of the post you write.
To write for the Entrecard blog, follow these simple steps:
Step 1.) Get your post idea approved.
If you have an idea for a post, send Graham a message by emailing graham@entrecard.com with the subject “Post idea”. Tell him about your idea. If it sounds good, he’ll give you the ok. He’ll also set up your account on the Entrecard blog so you can log in and start writing it. Even if you’ve written for the blog before, you now have to get each post idea approved before you start writing.
Step 2.) Submit your post for review
Once your post is complete, and the best you can make it, submit it for review but clicking the “Submit for Review” button. The post will be reviewed by Graham and Phirate, at which time we will decide how much EC to pay for it. If it is a stellar post that is going to help people be better bloggers, build the community, etc. we will pay up to 2000 credits for your post. If it is just a simple update, or announcement, we may only pay a few hundred.
Step 3.) We pay!
We will send you payment and publish your article. The better the article, the more we pay!
But what to write about?
We are looking for posts that will help people improve their blogging and keep the community connected. Tips for blogging, tools, resources, are all great. Personal anecdotes and stories that make this place feel like a community are also great. Jokes, funny stories, industry news is all fair game. Just send your post ideas to graham@entrecard.com and we’ll go from there.
Final remarks…
As Entrecard grows and expands, we will continue to bring you new ways to earn credits that simultaneously build your blog’s footprint and it’s audience. We want you to succeed as a blogger, and we are going to do everything we can to help you along the way. If that means giving you a little nudge to write a new post, or to visit other blogs, or to leave a comment, or just enabling you to launch a large campaign through our system, we’re here to help.
As we make significant economic investments in our blog specifically, we want to make it the hub for the all of the community’s activity. So, to that end, we are offering a one-time bonus of 50 EC by subscribing to our blog via email here.
Cheers,
Entrecard Team

can we entrecard user’s can sell EC Credits through our entrecard dashboard? thanks.
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:08 pm
This is another reason why Entrecard Rocks! Let the better times begin. I just hope we’ll not experience the same outage brought by the planet explosion
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Interesting concept. Especially like that you reward for making blog posts. Thanks
How do one get selected to sell credits to the “system”?
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I’m glad with the new system. It means more EC credits even if I don’t drop cards. I can just earn whenever I blog
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Love it (all except the prices on ec
)!
Question: You say that compensation for blog posts will be paid at the rate of 25ec per post, and will be credited every 3 days.
Does this mean that if we write and publish 5 posts in 3 days, we will receive a total of 125 ec?
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Graham, when will we be compensated for the contest posts if we haven’t already been? (I haven’t been compensated the 2k ec on my other blog…..Inspire Emotion).
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
@Gusher – you can’t sell through you’re dashboard yet. This is just phase 1 of the ECx (Entrecard Credit exchange). When we roll out phase two it will become a fully liquid market.
@Thomas – We do the selecting based on who’s holding how much and who can meet our demand and who exhibits completely normalized earning patterns.
@Modern Glam – No, if you write 5 posts in three days, you will receive 25 ec. If you write 5 posts in 15 days, you will receive 125 ec. The goal is not to make people blog as a job, to earn ec. The goal is to give them an incentive, an extra little nudge to write that blog post once every three days, and keep improving their blog.
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Great changes! Am looking forward to selling some of my ECs to Entrecard soon.

OKay. Thanks, Graham. That sounds more sensible, and I hope it works as motivation for people!

thanks for that quick reply graham.

but of course
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Loving the new features Graham! I thought the prices you put on the ECs were higher than what users sell for and no one would buy them, but I was totally surprised to see 20,000 ECs sold out so quick! And then another within 15 minutes! It’s obvious that trustworthiness overrides price.
What are your rates for buying ECs? Just want to know how much your earning from the exchange!
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:41 pm
A very welcome change. It will motivate bloggers to post more often.
I’m not sure if people are going to pay $9 for 1000 EC through the Entrecard system if they can get it for $5-6 elsewhere
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Wow, we already sold out of credits and had to buy more.
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Lets support entrecard and make the community a better place for blogger….

Sounds good to me – I’ve subscribed to your blog and am happy to see these changes. Glad to be part of the new Entrecard Marketplace – EXCHANGE.

Hi Graham,
I just sent you guys an e-mail, but I may not be the only one with this issue so I thought I’d ask here…
My RSS isn’t updating for one of my blogs… it never has seemed to work, even though it is set up the same way my other one is. Can you help us figure that out?
Thanks for the great work!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:25 pm
I too second the motion to sell EC credits to our dashboard. Let us know when this option becomes available.
Thanxs, Graham.

Hi Graham,
So you say “every” Entrecard member will get 25 ECs just if he/she writes one post on “his” blog every 3 days.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
@chetan yes, any and every entrecard member can earn credits when they post to their blog, but only once every three days. I think that is the ideal posting frequency when a blog is trying to gain an audience. It’s something that isn’t too tough to keep up with, and you’re only asking your readers to visit twice a week. A true happy medium.
@Sweet Mummy – some people having this problem have found a way to fix it. I’ll have to dig it up. If you can try playing around with your RSS, I know there is a trick to it. Does anyone else know how to fix that problem?
@Missy – Phase II of ECx will allow you to sell credits from your dashboard. One step at a time eh? We have to be careful and make sure all our ducks are in a row before rolling things out full scale. One little bug could make a big blow to the economy.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Cool.
I would like the idea that I can sell my credits to entrecard itself.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Its great and fantastic i believe every member will participate . Will you still give a 50 ec for a long time subscriber like me.
June 4th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Definitely some welcome changes.
In fact, I already have a post idea. I’ll have to email that off.
Thank you so much for all your efforts with this community.

WOW Entrecard just keeps getting better and better.
Are you buying entrecredits now from members or do we have to wait until phase 2 when we can sell them from the dashboard?
I have some ideas for posts – but they would be more on the “blogging humor” side of things – not sure if you are looking for just serious techy stuff or a little variety.
If I could I would give all a big bear hug as a thank you for the awesome new improvements!
June 4th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Thanks for all the improvements!
I do have a question about the subscription part though; what if I’m already subscribed via a reader? I’m not a fan of getting email updates. =\ Could I just take the screenshot and send it to you? Lol.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:11 am
I think the most awesome part is rewarding folks for posting to their blog.
By the way, I keep three different blogs (currently trying to decide on either a fourth, more frequently updated one, or redirecting one of my other blogs). Do I only earn credits for one, or for all?
And before people accuse me of trying to game the system, keeping up multiple blogs is much harder than keeping just one. I do it because the subjects I cover are very different—bloggers who come for advice do not want to read 3000-word articles exploring the Sherlock Holmes canon, and neither audience typically wants to have their reading interrupted by my serial.
And none of the three particularly want to be disturbed by Hugo award coverage (hence the fourth blog that will either materialize, or will temporarily usurp my main blog, although I’ll be connecting back to blogging in each post).
Anyways, I’m wondering.
June 4th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Thanks for starting this system of official buying and selling of ECs Graham…
But I have a question : When should the phase 2 start?
June 4th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
25 ec every 3 days just for blogging ROCKS.
LOVE the new upgrades – I subscribed for the e-mail and bought 1,000 ec right away.
LOVE Entrecards – and have an idea for an article, too, will e-mail it soon.
June 4th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Well thanks Mo! Aren’t you kind.
@Sagar – No ETA on phase II of ECx yet.
June 4th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Thanks, Graham, for making blogging so much more fun, for developing a sense of community among blogggers, for encouraging us to keep blogging, and for doing it all so quickly and with so little in the way of speed bumps. The site is so rich in features. You must be some kind of super-genius.
June 4th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
The price is too high…
This means for 5 days of advertising on a popular blog (any blogs that are 2046 credits cost) it would cost you equivalent to USD$95.00 HAHAHA
Some blogs cost over 4000 Entrecard credits a day!
Is it April fools day or something?
June 4th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
@brian – it could also buy you an entire year of advertising if you only bought ads priced under 32 credits.
it all depends how you spend them.
Turnip is predicting many ad prices will start to decline, and I tend to agree. This is good though, because it means your credits are worth more, and you can by more for less, which is value added for you. Enjoy!
June 4th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

The RSS feeds aren’t working for my blogs either. The last time Aerten Art updated was 5/31… the last time Blah Blah Blah updated was 5/26.
I haven’t done anything to them except post.
But getting a few credits to do what I’m doing anyway? Aw, you guys are just the best!

June 5th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
I’ve been trying to add another blog to Entrecard for 3 days now.
Keep getting the “whips and chains” error message.
Any idea how long this issue will last?
June 5th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
@Mo – thats weird. try logging out and just creating a new account, and then linking them after the new account exists.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Graham: tried it twice (logging out/creating a new account), still the same “whips and chains” error message.
June 6th, 2008 at 1:11 am
Love the new upgrades, its amazing.
June 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
my rss can not be detected in ur system!!!
June 7th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Am I allowed to sell adverts on my website and recieve EC’s directly(so lke 5 ad spaces available, and people send me a coupon to advertise on them)
Am I allowed to do that?
i’ve seen sites like ecdrop do that, and I thought i’d try it….
But i’m not sure if it’s allowed………….
Soooo…….
???
I used the questions thing at the dashboard and havn’t recieved a reply.
Could you E-Mail me an answer to iit@icehouse.net
Thank you
June 7th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Yeah I too got a mail related to this. But I m strictly against this, buying of credits.
Also I wanna ask if one can get EC credits in lesser rates as you offered then why one should buy them from you!!!
Rest is all fine writing posts in our blog and getting EC credits in return is awesome one…!!!
June 7th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
I like the way that Entrecard is developing! Keep on creating methods to reward good blogging behavior with ECs and the community will continue to improve. I went ahead and subscribed to this blog via email so I can keep updated on all the good stuff. I might even come up with an idea for a guest post!
