U Drop I Follow

So there I was, sitting around, thinking about how many people I drop my card on in Entrecard and how many drops I get back in return, and it sort of made me a bit mad. I drop 300 cards a day and only get about 50-60 drops back. I thought it was a downright shame.
So I looked at the right side of my blog and looked at my very nice “U COMMENT / I FOLLOW” button that removed the nofollow code from my blog… I thought “I wish people would do something like this for Entrecard….” then I thought “Why don’t you make your own funky button that fits with the entrecard badge?” and I did…
The U DROP, I FOLLOW movement, as it came to be, started on my blog and was first talked about on the Entrecard forums. It came about because of the “U COMMENT, I FOLLOW” idea started with the DoFollow tags. I thought as did many others it would be nice to show that you will drop back on members who drop on you. We had many lists started by members but nothing to show that “I will drop back” that users could see.
I love the 125×125 pixel idea that Entrecard uses and I thought it would be nice to make a badge that just fits in with the style… I came up with just making a badge that was around the same size as the DROP button Entrecard uses. Once I designed the first badge and put it on my own website I posted it on the Entrecard forum for others to use.

When I noticed a few members using it I thought it would be cool to write a post on it and see if I could get a “club” started with like minded droppers who wanted more drops and always dropped back… I then came up with some basic rules that I could enforce like:
- Link back to the U Drop, I FOLLOW page
- Display the badge next to the Entrecard badge
And once they followed the simple rules they would get their website on the drop list. Within a week I had around 50 members and then within a month it went past 100.
It has now got so popular that I have no time to update the list everyday so I have to post updates every few days. I also have to reply on members emailing me with members who have dropped the badge so I can remove them.
I have quickly learned that many people just display the badge, but do not actually reciprocate all drops. This has caused many people to lose trust in the name and badge and that has lost it many big members. I currently do not have a answer of how to fix this issue and welcome anyone with a system where I can display true U DROP, I FOLLOW members without displaying fakes to get in contact with me.
I would like to oneday have a ranking system for the members where different color badges display for drop droppers. It could maybe be a Bronze, Silver and GOLD (Maybe a black for bad members) which oneday may be able to be placed into Entrecard itself.

I drop on people that drop on me every day and I don’t need a badge to show it because they know. People generally know who returns their drops.

It’s a great idea! But I can’t get the image to work. I even tried downloading it to my own site
and I’ve tried moving it somewhere else on the sidebar (not that it should be moved anywhere but around my entrecard otherwise it doesn’t make much sense does it?) Help!

I’d like to have a full list of who has dropped by. I am sure I must miss some of them.
If you can’t get it to work just add it as a text link. That is what I did on my site. Sweet and simple and just under the EC button.

I’ve seen these badges all over (obviously) and the reason I’ve never gotten one is because I’m not sure I could drop on everyone who drops on me.
On the weekends, I’m pretty sure I do. But on weekdays? I don’t know.
Don’t you have to check your inbox multiple times a day to make sure you reciprocate on EVERYONE who dropped on you? Or is there a way to see ALL of the people who have dropped on you in a 24 hour period?
And what about my favorite EC blogs? What if there were 300 drops on my blog in one day? I’d still go to my favorite blogs, but I wouldn’t get any credit for them…

Lee, you might want to think about making different classes of buttons like you talked about, and letting the user choose.
Some members might want a button that indicates “I do my best to drop back, but don’t drop back 100%” while others might want one that indicates they drop back 100%

Its not a scam. I do indicate that I am very busy and update the list when I can. As you can see the list is very long and I get many new members everyday.

I would like to pick a button for my best dropping days. I had last week off so I could put in extra time at EC. Now I’m back at work and I can’t drop nearly as much. I was going to drop out of the U Drop so I don’t have to stay awake trying to drop cards.
