More house cleaning at Entrecard

Written on March 3rd, 2010 by admin

Over the last couple of days, we have begun to really weed out sites on the Entrecard Network that does not comply with our TOS. As we realised, there’s a ton of work to do. It will take us several more days before everything is completed. Once we’re done, the community will be a bit smaller, but at least we can say with a fact that any site on the EC network will be of quality. Just a reminder, any sites that does not meet the requirements below will be removed from the system. We will also send an automated email to the site owner and if they are able to fix the problem, they can just reply back to the email and we will reevaluate. Thank you for your patience.

    1. Blogs and Web sites: Blogs and Web sites are allowed on Entrecard.
    2. No nudity: Entrecard, and its members blogs, are generally family friendly. Blogs with images containing nudity are not permitted. This includes nudity in advertisements.
    3. English only: Until we develop the infrastructure necessary to facilitate non-English language blogs, English is the only language allowed in Entrecard.
    4. Minimum 5 posts(blogs): Blogs with no posts, or less than 5 quality posts written within the last 3 months, will be removed.
    5. Content must be original: Reproduced content does not provide the specific qualities we are looking for in the Entrecard network. This includes both sites that use legitimate reprintable content such as “free articles”, abstracts and public domain content as well as illegitimate, illegal content such as stolen content or scraped feeds. Duplicate content, such as posts that appear on two or more blogs belonging to the same person is also unacceptable.
    6. No full-screen ads or popups: Blogs that include full-screen ads or popups will be removed. This includes any popup window that appears when the site has finished loading or when clicking to view an article. It is OK for links to display a popup window if the user clicks a link, e.g. FeedBurner email subscription, but popup ads or forceful messages asking people to subscribe without clicking anything are intrusive and therefore not allowed.
    7. No illegal file downloads: Blogs that link to illegally shared files, such as music, movies or software, will be removed. By “illegal” we mean content that you do not have the right to distribute. Linking to free, legal music and software is permitted.
    8. Entrecard widget must be present: Including the widget on your site is a requirement if you wish to participate in Entrecard.
    9. No redirects: Sites that use a redirect (such as tinyurl links) as the URL on their account will be deleted.
    10. No duplicate accounts: If you have more than one account for the same blog, the duplicate account will be deleted.
    11. URLs must be valid: Sites with URLs that do not work or are wrongly typed will be deleted.
    12. No autoplaying audio: This includes music that plays automatically when you visit the page, or short audio ads that come up unannounced.
    13. Content must be recent: Sites that have not been updated in 3 months will be removed.

I’ll be updating my dead blogs soon, please don’t kick them from the network, updates are imminent within the next 48 hours :)

Well I guess this was a similar term on the older Entrecard before you guys stepped in. Although I think it’s been a bit out of control.

Glad that you keep it enforced again!

Definitely a step in the right direction. I deleted my account, but may consider returning if this new attitude continues.

I would be happier if you got rid of the forced sponsored ads. I do not need or want ads on my blogs that compete with Google Adsense, ads with half dressed women, ads for blogs that discuss political issues that I do not agree with, etc. And yeah, there is no chance of me being blackmailed into paying to have them stopped when there are so many other blogging communities out there that don’t force this kind of thing on anyone. It looks like I have no other choice than to leave Entrecard, and I am not happy about that.

      Hi Paul,

We totally understand your point of view. Every business has their own revenue model. Some businesses charges users to advertising on their network (with real money). Our model is to keep it completely free for users, and let the sponsors pay the bill. Feel free to disable any sponsor ads you find inappropriate for your site under “sponsor ads” in your dashboard. You can disable 50% of the ads.

you guys ROCK! Thanks so much.

I’m not sure what is meant by tinyurls though. I use a URL redirect (godaddy from blogger). Hope that is okay.

Definitely great news for those of us who are considering advertising with real cash.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the EC toolbar will work after the non-compliant blogs are removed. Will these same standards be enforced with new EC blogs too?

I hope you find a different way to scan for Trojans. I personally will not check sites for Trojans: I simply won’t visit then if they might have Trojans. Thus I cannot help you find Trojans.

@Paul – Stop complaining so much about a network that you use for free. If it competes with your google ad’s then stop using google, or stop using entrecard. It’s that simple.

@Ann – I suggested this in another post here. Try using a program called Sandboxie (google and youtube for more info). It will help prevent malware and other stuff from infecting your computer. I too was very skeptical about viruses on the network but with Sandboxie I feel a little safer………… and no I have no affiliation with that software. I am a knitter, not a salesman, or programmer. Just thought I’d share what I’ve learned.
