Entrecard TRAFFIC broken down
Written on March 27th, 2009 by Graham
Today, I’d like to share with you the many wonderous ways Entrecard brings you traffic. We here have worked hard to bring you traffic from a number of sources to make your Entrecard membership as valuable to you as possible.
It’s not doubt that as soon as you got involved in Entrecard, you’re traffic has shot up. Here’s where it’s coming from.
The Entrecard Toolbar
The Entrecard toolbar for Firefox is used daily by tens of thousands of bloggers. What the toolbar allows you to do is browse all the blogs in Entrecard by a number of filters including category, by favorites, cheapest to advertise on, most popular, most expensive, and more. With the click of a button you can jump to the next site, or open 10 sites in your browser. Not only that, but advertising from any blog in our entire network is just a single click from the toolbar!
All of our toolbar traffic registers on your analytics as “direct traffic” -so unfortunately there is no way for you to tell just how much traffic you’re getting from our toolbar. Consider toolbar traffic an “added bonus” for being an Entrecard member!
Our on-site directory
Every month, MILLIONS (yes, millions) of visits to our members blogs come from our directory of members. You get your share in this traffic just by being a member -but the higher you’re listed in our directory, the more traffic you’ll get from it. Getting listed high in this category is all about one thing: getting the most drops possible. The category is ordered from the blog receiving the most drops to the blog receiving the least. But no matter how many drops you’re getting, you’re still getting traffic from our directory! If you use Google Analytics, this traffic will register as coming from entrecard.com.
Ads!
Entrecard is all about buying ads with our virtual currency that you earn for free. Collectively, these ads channel over 5 million monthly visits to our members blogs. Right now you can buy ads on over 30,000 blogs across 60 vertical niches. These ads bring you traffic, and since we implemented our one-page down rule, these ads should be bringing you more traffic than ever before as they become exposed to a wider audience. The amount of traffic you get from your ads is based almost entirely on how many you buy, so head over to our directory to start buying ads with all those credits you’ve been earning. If you use Google Analytics, this traffic will register as coming from s3.amazonaws.com
Marketplace
Our marketplace allows you to buy and sell all types of products and services for Entrecard Credits. MANY offerings in the market bring you more traffic, from multiple forms of advertising on sale across many different sites, to more controversial digg and stumble services. In fact, here are hundreds of ways you can get more traffic with Entrecard.
As we work hard to build a service that brings our bloggers as much traffic as possible, we encourage you to take full advantage of not one but all possible strategies for garnering traffic. Make Entrecard work for you! Many bloggers now have sucessfully used Entrecard to build large followings. Have you?

Yes, a lot of my traffic come from entrecard. Thanks and more power. I look forward to earning from my drops.
March 27th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
Btw, I do wish that my bounce percentage would decrease eventually, any tips regarding this? Thanks.
March 27th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Yes, to decease your bounce rate, lay out your blog such that the latest post cannot be read without clicking. Because many entrecard visitors visit your blog daily, they have little reason to click to another page unless you can’t read the latest post without clicking…
March 27th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
@Graham plus it will use less bandwidth.
Show 10 or less posts on the homepage each with only excerpts of a paragraph or two. It will lessen the amount of bandwidth use and speed up your blog.
*I’m saying this in general, not to anyone specific*

Nice thing that entrecard is continuing to grow in a big way. Just one thing i noticed though, what are the units on the chart displayed?
March 27th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
“Entrecard TRAFFIC [is] broken down”
For the last couple days traffic has been broken. Not to mention the system has been slow. When will all these changes be done?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
I love the Market Place, i just blog about the stuff I got here and I only spent 1500 credits to get it. cool!!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
@ impNERD: but sometimes I don’t like the idea of “click here to read more. . .” I want and enjoy reading the post thats already there.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I’ll have to go check out the market place.
I wonder (and this may be a silly question) but is the toolbar ONLY for Firefox? What if I’m on explorer? No good, huh?
Thanks!!
March 27th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
i must say you have brought many good changes… traffic has shot up but bounce rate is still a worry… i hope you do something for that too…
March 27th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Can you sort the list of droppers in the INBOX as 1st in 1st show?
currently the list that I saw are 1st in last shown, those who click 1st, ended up to be the last on the list. And being a site with 300+ droppers a day, the early bird who clicked, ended up not being clicked back by the site they’ve dropped. Hope you can settle this issue.
Oh, btw, the price list on the toolbar sometimes refreshed way too slow or didn’t appeared at all.
Thanks!

For 3 days now, my advert clicks showed zero number of clicks even though I advertised in few sites. Is this normal? Not to brag, but I rarely get zero number of clicking when I advertised
March 28th, 2009 at 12:13 am
One thing I notice about that chart is that it shows no labels. What is that from anyway?
I looked back and noticed that this is not the first time.
http://entrecard.com/blog/?p=795
Could you expand the picture to show numbers?
March 28th, 2009 at 1:17 am
^^ I’d also like to see the numbers on that chart if at all possible. Thanks!
March 28th, 2009 at 3:30 am
I hope Entrecard admin can increase the drop limit (now only 300 drop).
March 28th, 2009 at 4:12 am
Increase the drop limit?
March 28th, 2009 at 4:54 am
the drop rate needs to decrease not increase for better quality traffic / less bounce , and i am still not sold on any body telling others where to place a widget, this rule is pointless.
March 28th, 2009 at 6:40 am
For increase in traffic and to decrease bounce rate you must put an counter in the site which may count upto 30 seconds so that full site is loaded properly and people compulsory visit the site.
Well one thing I am not able to understand is that when I see my google analytics data I find that there is 100% bounce rate in some sub sources of entrecard so I wanted to confirm that If they did not visit my site then how could they drop on my site and furthermore time duration shows 0.000 secs and for 12 visits so what is this magic ,
please explain this ,

I am seeing that very few people are clicking on ads that I bought. What’s with that? I am getting a lot of EC traffic, but only 2 or 3 clicks a day come through from ads that I bought on other blogs. Makes me wonder if it’s worth it to buy those ads.
March 28th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Graham- You said “Because many entrecard visitors visit your blog daily, they have little reason to click to another page unless you can’t read the latest post without clicking…”
I’ll never do that. Just because of the diversity of EC blogs, I’ll never have much interest in most of the ones I click on when surfing. If I have to make another click to read something it will only happen if I am feeling REALLY compelled by the opening sentence. Otherwise and usually, I just blow past and have read even less than I would have if the whole post was there.
And I understand that most people won’t find my blogs interesting. But I want them to catch those people who might be interested as they go by so that they might choose to come back on purpose more often.

Like Many Members who responded to the announced changes during the previous announcements –
I wonder why there is :
No Response on Resolving Bounce Rate Issues Still..
No Response on Rejecting Ads, still..
No Response on Placement of Widget Still..
Most Of Us Are Waiting, on any response on these issues,
But as of yet since The Last Entrecard Blog or the Entrecard Blog before which announced the changes were being implemented; NO Update on these Most Important Issues.
Inquiring Minds all Over the Entreplex Wonder Why..
March 28th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
@RE Ausetkmt
Let me try to address your three points as best I can:
1.) Resolving the bounce rate issue. I mentioned in comment #3 here that one of the best ways you can reduce your bounce rate is to lay out your blog such that the latest post can’t be read without clicking. A bounce occurs when someone only visits your homepage. But for most bloggers, you can always read the latest post on the homepage without ever clicking. So, for the entrecard visitors that are reading your blog, they never have a reason to click anything while staying updated on your posts.
2.) As for rejecting ads, we’ve built in a suite of features to give you complete control over the paid ads that will or will not run through the system, including only accepting ads from blogs, only accepting ads targetted to your category, and more. you will have at least 24 hours to reject any ad before it will be shown on your blog.
3.) Nothing has changed with the widget placement, except that it must be placed within one stroke of the page-down key on your blog.

RE: The graph
This graph actually represents our compete chart as seen here:
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/entrecard.com/?metric=uv
I wasn’t trying to use the chart to illustrate data, just to have a nice image for the post. But the chart does map the amount of traffic going through the Entrecard network, which continually increases month over month, and the members are the ones reaping the reward since this also charts all traffic going through our widgets.

RE: The clicks
We’re having a bug in the click-tracking gear. You’re getting more clicks than are registering (in many cases zero). The issue has been fixed for the ads calendar (click “your ads” tab from dashboard) so you should be able to see how many clicks you’re getting from there. Let me know if you can’t.
March 28th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
@Graham,
Thanks for letting us know about the bug in the click tracking gear. I am getting worried whether my ads is not attractive anymore. I hope it will be fixed soon. Have a nice day.
March 28th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Wow…I didn’t realize people were having trouble..I haven’t had any trouble as of yet…I’m getting the same amount of clicks for my ads as I always did. Of course….I make sure to only buy ads from sites where the ad is placed at the top of the page…otherwise nobody is ever going to see my ad. I’ve bought ads from big sites..thinking I’d get lots of clicks..and didn’t…but then realized “Duh! This blog placed their entrecard down looow…no wonder nobody clicked on my ad!” I refuse to buy any ad unless it’s in a very visible spot right when you go to the homepage.

Hey, bluecrystaldude, you asked my one burning question of the day! Thanks!
March 29th, 2009 at 11:20 am
Hmmm – Using your numbers.
5,000,000 visits / 30,000 blogs = 166 hits per month or 5 hits per day. Broken down in my blog.
@RE Ausetkmt – Think about it. Purchasing credits back from members will only make the bounce rate worse by encouraging members to register multiple blogs to up their max drops per day and increase the drive by dropping. Having the widget higher just makes it easier for them to run and gun.

Mine too Diva!! I am still showing zero on all clicks!! I don’t know if people are getting clicks through my blogs or not!! Please try to get this fixed as soon as possible!!
March 29th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I just wanted to pipe in and say I’ve been having the zero on clicks problem too.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:58 am
indeed no doubt about it since i joined entrecard i’ve got lots of traffic and it is easier to find other blogs. but i could not set-up the toolbar onto my firefox browser. it always says error in installing. i have it though in my other computer at home and it is much easier.
March 30th, 2009 at 5:07 am
Hi there, just wanted to share that entrecard.com is a good source for quality traffic. Everyday I buy some ads from orther members and according to analytics I had 878 Visitors from entrecard on March.
The only thing that I dont like: I have 50 listings on the MARKET and I can not delete my old listings!

Disappointed..so far in my experience with yor Marketplace listings as i went to several places and the iems were no longer there that I was willing to buy lik on on ‘Copper cauldron’ i would have loved to have her soap!
I did get a couple of things though or rather ordered them for ec’s so hopefullly I receive them and not be stiffed like i have so many times on the net in general. I am willing to do ‘barter’ with any crafty artistic people here as i know there are many ‘Etsyans on blogspot, here. In exchange they could have an item of mine on the market place or on my blog or web site ‘Artzstuf’ site, link on blog, for one of theirs!!. My art is Green wearable healing gemstone metal jewelry, photography and water color and acrylic prints of my original paintings. Also want to say visit ‘Blockhead radio’ as is a steal when it comes to FREE advetising ans you can call in and plug your store, service or product. Is a WIN,win situation for all ECarders and Ecard I think, not being offered by it’s competition like on recent 125×125 ads we see running that seem easier than the ‘dropping’ or Easy hits4u,LInkreferral,Blogupp or the ’spot’ and ‘project wonderful’ads.

Disappointed..so far in my experience with your Market place listings as i went to several places and the iems were no longer there that I was willing to buy like on on ‘Copper cauldron’ and should have been removed for easier access! I think the same holds true for ads i ry to place as i often see tha they are still on the capmpaign section or on the blog profiles but..have been discontinued! Along with cleaning up entrecard by removing offenders who allegedly are not foolllowing ‘TOS’ rules, i think if you no longer have a site on here or rather a blog, that you should remove it or if YOU can’t , ahve entrecard do it by writign to it’s tech dept. seems with this and all the tech problems here, it is efinitely a shakey uncertain advertising strategy!

Is good to do art anyway, for your mind! Also want to say visit ‘Blockhead radio’ as is a steal when it comes to FREE advertising as you can call in and plug your store, service or product. I wasn’t aware that there was a firefox plugin for Entercard… thats very cool. I need to look into adding this in, thanks!

Excellent post! I’ve been a member of Entrecard since the beginning, and I have say, I’ve always been delighted with the increase in my sites traffic, in addition to the warm and supportive friends I’ve met along the way.
However, since I became a member, I met with a few unfortunate setbacks, which at times, slowed the progress of A Nice Place In The Sun, as well as our internet presence.
Therefore, at the risk of sounding too sentimental, I was comforted to be a member of Entrecard during those periods, because along with my dear friends, Entrecard helped us keep an online presence until I recuperated.
Hence again, I’m grateful for the opportunity to offer my thanks to the creators, staff, and members of Entrecard. Because despite being an innovative, creative, and exciting site, Entrecard keeps going the extra distance, reminding readers and members, that good websites are written for people.
Yours truly,
Ann Clemmons

Does anyone know how to have two different firefox versions? In mine I have 2 toolbars and there’s simply no space for another one on my screen and 2nd firefox for entrecard only would be great.

It’s really great to see such a improvement in traffic. You have done really great job, and after so much work involved into bringing quality and new features to members, it is normal and rewarding to see such a results. Congrats!
